Have you “seriously” ever looked at the “reborn” babies?

I was checking on Nora’s dress on Ebay and a reborn baby doll auction popped up and caught my eye tonight… It was an amazing little girl and I just had to share the link to her listing…she’s only $5000 if you want her! :o) Most artists have their pictures set so you can’t copy them, so you’ll have to open the links to see them.

I imagine this is what Bithar’s baby girl will look like…isn’t she just beautiful??? Meet Lakiah…

Here is another little sweetheart…

This is another ethnic sweetie…Melina…

This little girl is Marcia and she has been sold…for $5,600 and I hope they keep the pictures up so you can see them in this link…

I really don’t know much about the process of turning a baby into a reborn, but I’ve been intrigued with the process before and would sit sometimes for hours and look at the beautiful pictures and find out how they rooted the hair and what color paints they used to make the fine veins in the head, look at all the layette pieces that came with the baby, and much more. I know this, it takes real talent to make one of these, and I admire the artists who paint them.

I still like Lakiah the best!

Do we have any “reborner’s” in the group?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Ummmm, I think I am in the wrong group, Jeanne, if we are talking about $5,000.00 dolls!! I can’t imagine forking over that amount of money for a doll, can you? Of course, when you get a real baby, it will cost you over $5,000 to raise it, but still, gee, I don’t know. At least the doll won’t grow out of anything, and will never ask for anything!! Yes, I think that first doll will look a lot like Bithar’s baby, does she have a name picked out yet?

I do have a baby doll that I bought in Branson, handmade by local craftsmen, that I have sleeping in the guest bedroom, but paid nothing like $5,000.00 for her! She is a pretty doll, probably more like Bitty Baby size, but has a cloth body, not realistic at all, and the sweetest face. She’s the perfect baby girl I never had, since my daughter NEVER would sleep!! 🙂

  2. Well, sorry, but these dolls creep me out. Am I the only one who thinks this! Sort of like taxidermy. I guess I’ll just save that $5000!!

    1. I have to agree with Ann – this is the only type of doll the does really ‘creep’ me out. :-/ If someone else wants them, that’s fine with me… 🙂

    2. Same here ~ just a bit too creepy. A fee years ago, I took my AG Molly to a local doll hospital and they had Reborn Babies there. In fact, they had a whole “nursery” set up with about 15 dolls in real incubators!!! I held a few and they are amazingly real feeling, but also felt DEAD. Apparently, each strand of hair is inserted individually with super fine needles. Quite an art. I am kind of surprised how popular they are.

    3. Totally agree Ann. They creep me out too. It’s like a real baby but dead which is very creepy.
On the other hand I can admire the artist creating something so realistic. I think I’ll save my money too!

  3. I’d never seen reborn babies before. I’ve seen baby dolls that were commercially made and attempting to look realistic but never privately made ones. These are very realistic. I agree that it takes tremendous talent and time to create one. Too pricey for me.
    Have a good day.
    Take care.

  4. No reborns here. I like older children that can pose and play. I do have a Lilah (Tonner) who is a toddler and YuPing, Ten Ping’s little sister, but those are my only sort of little ones.
Interesting how lifelike they are, but would not want and the price crazy.

  5. I must say, I have to agree with the girls above. Just a little creepy. A friend of mine bought several Middleton baby dolls and they weren’t bad, but still something I wouldn’t buy.

  6. p.s. there are a lot of realistic looking doll faces but I think I like a doll to look like a doll, if that makes sense.

  7. Oh good, since I was the first to write, I was afraid that I would offend anyone if I said those dolls creep me out! At least I now know that the majority of you, if not all, feel the same way! Yes, Paula, I like a doll to look like a doll too!!

  8. Creepy is the word that came to my mind also but like Linda, I hesitated to comment first. I do have a Corolle baby doll that’s very nice but I never did send it to my granddaughter, Riya, as it is completely bald, like I was as a baby, and has tiny eyes, unlike Riya who was born with a full head of dark hair and great big brown eyes. She wouldn’t have identified with it at all. I had bought it even before she was born. She and her brother Krish did like the Baby Emma doll that was a necessity at bedtime for a couple of years for Krish. Thanks for showing us what’s out there!

  9. Hi Jeanne,
I’ll comment later, but I just wondered if my post didn’t go through yesterday. When I checked it said “your comment is awaiting moderation” – never saw that before and now I saw you answered everyone except for me. Is there something up with my computer.
Gotta run errands now. Have a good day.

I thought I would be the only one who thinks reborns are a bit creepy, but I find I’m in good company. I remember reading about customers in a parking lot who broke out the window of a car to “save” a reborn in a car seat. There are some weird stories out there about how people treat them so I prefer dolls that look like “real” dolls (is that an oxymoron?) The creativity is awesome and I admire their skill and it’s obvious some of them make pretty good money, but I think I’d have nightmares surrounded by reborn parts in my studio!!! I’m new to the blog and this is my first comment. I’ve been getting the emails everyday and I love them with doll and family news that makes me feel like I’m part of a big family. Thanks Jeanne.

Hi Jeanne, I see this is awaiting moderation – would you take my last name off please? I see that others only use their first names. Thanks.

      1. Hi Deanna,
I don’t think I can remove your last name…it’s something you have to do…Paula gad to do rhe same thing…sign up again as just Deanna or Deanna C…the unsubscribed your other name. Sorry…that’s just the way WordPress does it…

  11. I’m sorry, but they creep me out as well. The look true real, but aren’t. I prefer dolls with sweet faces that you know are dolls. I saw a TV show or something once about a lady that had a number of these reborns. She spent so much time with them that she was ignoring her two live sons who were school age. The only thing I can see these dolls are really good for is expectant parents to get the “feel” of things or they would be ideal for a younger sibling who wants to have a “real” baby when the sister or brother is born. I think that price would prohibit them for kids though. My daughter has a berenguer baby doll purchased in the very early 1990’s, but she isn’t anatomically correct or wets or anything. She has a fairly lifelike face with realistic lips and is a correct size, but you KNOW it’s a doll. She came from Toys R Us so a reasonable price.

  12. HI everyone,
Well, your fearless leader looks to be last to comment on the “creepy” dolls I showed you today. I just sat down at my computer this morning and was getting ready to comment when my mom called and said she thought she better go to the doctor…she didn’t feel well… that was just the start of my day… Reuben had an allergic reaction to his shots yesterday and he has been one miserable little pup… was about as restless as anything I’ve ever seen, wanted to dig holes in the ground outside to lay in and cool off, whimpered and whined all night long, wanted to lay right next to the toilet ( I think it was cool to his skin). My hubby called the vet back and they had me pick up some Benadryl and he seems like he’s going to make it…except he can’t seem to keep anything down now…
Bithar texted me when I was at the doctor with my mom… I first thought, “Oh no, she can’t go into labor now…” but she just wanted the recipe to my corn casserole to make for Jean when he arrives home tomorrow.
I’ve been working on something else…so this will be the only comment I make… see you tomorrow…
Sorry about the creepy doll…it looks like it was pretty much unanimous…We won’t discuss creepy dolls again…
    Blessings, Jeanne

  13. I love the reborn babies! 🙂 I have one daughter and lost 3 after her, 2 of them far enough along to know they were girls. I’d love one of those gorgeous reborn babies to fuss over. I know I’m in the minority, but that’s ok. Not the first time, won’t be the last. 🙂
