Happy Mother’s Day…especially to my momma!

First, let me thank all of you for your kind comments about my post yesterday where I shared pictures of my kids… if you missed it, you can see it HERE. As their mom, I was quite flattered and blessed beyond measure! Thank you!

Now, today is Mother’s Day and let’s see…what could I talk about today? hmmmm… how about mother’s…and particularly mine! I have a good one… No, I have a GREAT ONE…and she always has been… she’s 81 and still going strong!

We kids call her momma

When she was 8 years old, she was a shy red head with a sweet freckled face…

This was her 8th grade graduation picture… the teacher and 5 students. She’s on the front left… isn’t she pretty?

CIMG0783

…a little older…and I see a book on the bench, so maybe a little wiser too…

CIMG0792

This picture was taken soon after Bob was born. I love seeing her with her red hair and her red lips…

CIMG0787

My dad was transferred to Italy and my mom traveled with us 3 kids all by herself… I think this was our passport picture.

CIMG0806

One thing momma hated was having her picture taken so it’s a miracle I have any pictures to show…but I found a few…

When my dad was just 45, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and went to Texas for surgery. My mom went with him and we stayed with my aunt. For Christmas that year, my aunt and uncle drove us kids down there to be with them. We stayed for a short visit at some friends home. My mom and dad had one of those rare marriages where they were best friends and sweethearts to the max. He was so special to her and she loved him with her whole heart!

I think this is the only picture of us all together. It was during that same visit…

My dad died when he was just 49, leaving my mom a widow with 3 kids to raise…(Cindy had just gotten married) but I have to tell you, she was the most determined mom to get things right and she did. She was always there for us and helped us whenever we needed it. She gave us lots of love and affection and our family flourished in the midst of tragedy. My sisters and my brother and I are VERY close and we have a certain kind of bond and friendship that is different than a lot of families. I am very grateful to my mom for having wisdom and strength when it would have been easy to let things slide.

I could write pages about things she’s done just for me alone, but I think I’ll just share some of my favorite pictures of her…

Here she is with Rebecca…

Here’s a 4 generation picture…

Yes, I made her jacket and skirt and my dress. I think she looks especially beautiful in these colors!

CIMG0816

We’ll call this the “flower” dresses picture… and yes, I made my dress and hers again…

CIMG0820

Loving on Kristoffer the day he came to visit her… 3 days old!

CIMG0822

Riding the Merry Go Round with Rebecca…and showing her off too…

All in all, in a life filled with love, and loss and heartache beyond comprehension, she was and still is one pretty cool grandma and momma!
I love you Momma! Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there!
There is a scripture in Psalms 31:28 that says “Her children shall rise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her.”

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. What a wonderful tribute to your Dear Mother! And to your Father as well. The pictures are real treasures. It is also wonderful that we live in a time when we have pictures to remember our family member by. You and George are so fortunate to be blessed with such wonderful families and children and to be such wonderful parents to Kristoffer and Rebecca. Thank you for sharing them with all of us, Jeanne. And Happy Mothers Day!

    1. Thank you Susette,
I couldn’t thank my mom enough for all she’s done for me if I started listing things and continued for a year!
She truly is remarkable and so un-selfish!
I am very blessed to have spent another Mother’s Day with her…along with my kids…and my sister! Happy Mother’s Day to us and all the mom’s out there.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Congratulations on having such a good mom and being such a good mom.

My grandmother had hair like that, though most of the years I knew her, it had help staying that color. She was a wonderful mother for my dad.

Happy Mother’s Day to you and to all of the mother’s who read your blog. In your honor, the sun has come out here and there’s a rabbit on my newly cut lawn.

    1. Thank you Marilyn,
I had a really good example of a good mom…and I hope I’ve learned lots from her!
My mom finally gave up the “coloring” thing and let hers go “almost” natural… I think she still uses something but it’s not in the “red” family! :o)

I’m so thrilled the sun has come out for you today and to think you have a little rabbit sitting out there for you to see…
      Blessings to you Marilyn,

Oh, Jeanne! Thank you for sharing your lovely photographs, your charming descriptions, and your tender memories! They brought me to tears! The obvious respect, gratitude, and admiration you have for your momma is a beautiful testimony to a mother’s love! Your praise for her is the absolute embodiment of the cited scripture verse! And the caring and affection with which you have raised your own children were clearly learned from your mother’s example. How blessed your momma is, and how very blessed you are! Wishing you, your momma, and all other mothers only beautiful memories on this day set aside to honor the dear ones who gave us life, and love.

    1. Thank you Anne,
My wish is for every mom to feel that sweet love from her children and to give that same love to their mom’s if possible. If not, shower some love on someone who could use it…
Thank you so much and may your day be filled with lots of love too…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What a sweet and loving tribute to your wonderful mother, Jeanne! You are so lucky to still have her. I lost my mother 8 years ago, and I miss her very much. I see a resemblance of Rebecca and your mother, especially with that red hair! I think sometimes kids look more like their grandparents than their parents! I do think you resemble your father, especially with his coloring and hair. It must have been awful for your mother to lose the love of her life at such a young age. She deserves all the love, admiration and respect you can give her!

It was so nice to see your pictures of your family! Happy Mother’s Day to you, dear Jeanne Marie and to all the wonderful mothers who read your blog.

    1. HI Linda,
I’m so sorry you lost your mom a few years ago. Rebecca does have some “momma” characteristics… some good and some like stubbornness that we could do without… :o)

My mom never dated any other man and I don’t think ever wanted to. She was a one man woman! I think it was mutual… :o)

Happy Mother’s Day to you too, Linda. I hope your day was nice and filled with love…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. What beautiful pictures and wonderful loving thoughts of your family. So sorry to hear of the loss of you father to a brain tumor. My son was diagnosed with an Ependymoma brain tumor right after his 20th birthday. I am glad to say that by God’s grace he is still with us and turned 23 this past October. Our families are very precious and even though our time on this earth is short our eternal time will never end.
Thank you for your wonderful posts and for sharing a part of yourself with us.

    1. HI Donna,
It was a hard season when my dad was sick and then when he died, but like I said, we had each other and held strong to each other. The Lord was very faithful to us all and has blessed us all tremendously…
My family is the most precious thing to me… it sounds like yours is too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Hi Jeanne,
Hope you had a lovely Mothers day! Thank you for sharing your family photo’s with us. Love the picture of your Momma looking down so tenderly at kristoffer and what a sweet smile she has on the merry go round with Rebecca. What a remarkable mom you have. So strong and determined after such a horrific loss; I admire her greatly. She raised a wonderful loving daughter that has a heart of gold, loves the Lord and her family infinitely, dropping everything to be of help to others. Jeanne you a testament of your mothers loving care.
    Have a great Monday, Ingrid

    1. Thank you Ingrid,
Yes, I’d say remarkable is the right word for my mom… she truly is! If I can just be half the woman she is, I’ll be thrilled.
Thank you for your very kind words, Ingrid. I don’t take them lightly…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    Hi Jeanne,

I enjoyed your pictures and the wonderful tribute to your mother. I’m glad you still have her around, and that you are enjoying your times with her.

I lost my own mother 9 years ago–and, yes, I called her “Momma” too!

We were both fortunate to be born into loving, Christian families. God bless you for bringing your faith into your blogs.

    Charlotte

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I think I’m a bit late getting back to you, but wanted to thank you for your comments.
Yes, we both have been fortunate to be raised in Christian families!
How sweet that you had a “momma” too!
      Blessings, Jeanne
