Hallelujah! The Flower Girl dresses are finished!!!

In the last post I showed you this…

Well, I’m happy to report to you that tonight I finished my nieces flower girls dresses for her wedding! I tried to duplicate the pattern on them as much as possible by doing a little “fussy cutting” and even managed to do it on the backs. They have little skinny aqua belts that they’ll wear around the waists, held in place by thread loops and they’ll be wearing matching aqua shoes too! I can’t wait to see them all dressed up.

The littlest girl is so tiny even my size 2 dress form is too big for her dress, so I wasn’t able to zip it up in the back, but here are a few pictures of it anyway.

Here is the bigger dress… it’s just the opposite; almost too big for the dress form.

I did a little “fussy cutting” on the flower on the back of the bodice on each dress to make it more interesting from the backside. Nora’s dress has a slightly smaller flower than Hannah’s but still matched up.

Okay, I think my part for the wedding is done, unless I decide to make them some slips that hold out the dresses just a little bit…

Hope you all approve… I’m heading to bed…it’s 11:30 Saturday night…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Oh Jeanne, so pretty! You did a wonderful job of matching up the flowers and especially in the back along the zipper! I’m lucky to get a zipper in decently, period! Wow, that is a big variance in the size of the dresses, they almost look like mother-daughter dresses! I’m sure they will be thrilled with them and will look adorable too!

I happened to get two of your blogs this morning of the same thing (this one). Did you have trouble with the weather? I was worried about you, since the storms were especially bad down by your area. We lucked out in St. Louis, just getting alternate rain and sun—but mostly gloomy skies. A nice day to stay indoors for sure!

    1. Thanks Linda,
I’m ready to ship them off to PA and then after they try them on and I get the OK I’ll be able to breathe! There is a big difference in their sizes… One is the big cousin and the other is the little cousin.
I don’t know what could have caused the double posts, but as long as you got it…that’s what matters. There was hail in the next town over, but we barely got a hard rain…so who knows…
Today it’s beautiful outside, but breezy and on the cool side. After I do some dishes, from yesterday… :o( I hope to see who is next on the dress list!
      Thanks, Jeanne

  2. Oh my goodness, those dresses are adorable! I love the way you match the flowers in the back..your nieces are going to be so cute wearing these dresses!

    1. HI Regina,
Considering the size of the print in the fabric my niece picked out, I think they turned out pretty cute too. I was a bit skeptical at first, but now I think when they wear them, they’ll really be noticed… hopefully not more than the bride!
Thanks so much for your compliments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your fussy cutting was really worth it, Jeanne, they match perfectly! Wonderful job! Probably no one will realize how much work went into the dresses, but everyone will think they’re the prettiest flower girls ever.
I think I remember that the wedding is in PA, but when is it? Will you be taking your blog with you and keeping us posted on the festivities?

    1. Hi Jevne,
I just hope they fit and that the little girls love them.
Yes, the wedding is in PA and I will probably just schedule some posts while I’m gone…(don’t want to break my record and miss a day!) and then I’ll share pictures from my brother’s good photographic skills when I get back. His will be way better than mine ever would be.
Thanks so much for your compliments on the dresses.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Good morning Jeanne,
The little girl dresses are adorable. Such excellent work. You did an amazing job on the flowers – strategically placed. Also such nice neat work. You just continue to amaze me!
    Have a lovely Sunday!

    1. HI Paula,
It’s always strange transiting from tiny doll clothes to people clothes. It just seems like there is SO SO much fabric when you switch.
Thanks so much for your very kind words about the dresses. I truly appreciate it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

Little girls in long “twirly” dresses are always a hit at weddings. Jeanne, you did a beautiful job on those gowns. The bride will be thrilled when she sees them. I do like your idea of a gathered slip underneath. I would run a narrow ribbon of a matching color along the edge. When the girls walk or twirl {which they will} the color will just slight show adding to the carry through of the intense color of aqua.
I want to be a mouse in the corner at this wedding. What color are the bridesmaids wearing??

    1. Hi Jeannie,
I think they girls will love the skirts on these dresses too. The fabric was a decorator print so it’s much heavier than the cotton was in the Easter dresses I made for them in the ‘trial” run. These dresses will REALLY twirl, I think.
I saw some seafoam/aqua netting at Joann’s that I might have to check out again. It has a ruffled edge to it and I think it would be wonderful underneath the dresses for when they
“twirl” which I’m sure they will.
The bridesmaid dresses are the color of the aqua flowers in the little flower girls dresses, “I think.”
      Thanks so much Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Sylvia,
I’m so glad you liked the dresses…now let’s just hope they fit! Then I’ll be really happy!
      blessings, Jeanne

  6. The dresses are lovely and I too, like that you considered how they would look from the back. Can’t wait for the wedding pictures. I feel quite sure you will make slips for the dresses. The nieces will love them.

    1. Thanks Jan,
I’m glad I did the backs too…since they will be seen from the back as they walk up the aisle. It was just a little extra something to do instead of having a mismatched backside.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I love the dresses! I have the most amazing aunt in the world! You really are such an amazing seamstress! They are so pretty and perfect! I can’t wait to see them on the girls! You are so kind to have done this for me! Can’t wait to thank you in person!
    Love your neice

    1. Thank you Erin,
I has been my pleasure to do them for you and I can’t wait to see them at your wedding either! It’s going to be a beautiful wedding, I just know it.
      Love you bunches, Aunt Jeanne

  8. I can’t believe you matched the flower in the center back too!! That really shows off your talents! The zippers look amazing too! Love the way you arranged the flowers on the front as well!
    Have a great week!

    1. Thanks Kathie,
It was a fun project and so glad my niece “approved!”
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Just have to tell you that these flower girl dresses are SENSATIONAL!!!!! How blessed the bride to have you sew for her little girls. Beautiful, Jeanne!!!
