First Glances!

DON’T FORGET… Molly’s purple dress set ends this evening on Ebay. (Marilyn reminded me…) You can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar.

We’ve had a few ladies receive new dolls the last few days and it got me to thinking about what it was like for me when I received one of those boxes with a doll inside. Generally, you know it’s coming because you either “ordered it yourself” (ha!) or you got an invoice from the artist who painted your doll, letting you know she was done and she’d be shipping her soon. There is just something so exciting about walking out to your mailbox and seeing a large box with a return address that makes you want to scream. Or maybe the mailman comes to your door and delivers a box… one you’ve been waiting for for a long time… or maybe you are gone and the box is left on your doorstep, (heaven forbid!) until you return home to find it.
Most of the time, I’ve had wonderful experiences when I opened up those doll boxes… It’s usually like the clouds part and a ray of sunshine beams into your house. You pull back the tissue paper and see for the first time, that sweet face that you have anxiously been waiting to see! Her eyes meet yours and you pick her up and say something like, “Yes, Yes, Yes!” or “Oh, Oh, Oh!” That’s the way it usually goes. Then you keep checking her all day long to see if she’s still as pretty as you remember she was the last time you looked at her.

If you’ve been blessed with a doll recently, CONGRATULATIONS! If you haven’t, may it happen to you sometime in the future!

Here are a few of my first glances…and just like my daughter, Rebecca, when you get that one special doll, it’s hard to wipe that grin off your face….

I didn’t take a picture of Isabelle in her box… I HAD to get her out. I know this sounds silly, but I think she looks younger in these pictures than she does now. I’m sure it’s because her hair has sort of straightened a little bit. She was the one I couldn’t stop saying “Oh, Oh, Oh” to!

I won Janie, another 13″ Dianna Effner, Little Darling, off of Ebay. She had been listed for 3 weeks in a row and I sent the lady (Joyce Mathews), an offer and she took it. Her hair was a little ratty, but I thought it was sweet on her. Her original name on her certificate was Helen, but I changed it to Janie.

When I received Emmie, recently, I had waited over 3 years for her, so I was VERY anxious to see what she looked like. It was truly love at first site with her too!

Joy sent Betsy McCall to me and she was a fun surprise box to open up. I hadn’t seen one this size in person…

I was smitten with the little 10″ Boneka dolls and amazingly Carolyn found one and bought it, knowing I was looking for one, and then emailed me and offered it to me for the price she paid. I was absolutely thrilled with her when I opened up the box…

Last of all, I’ve had 2 surprises with Ten Ping, my tiny little 8″ girl. She came from Lone Star Dolls in Texas, and was made by Ruby Red Galleria. I just thought she was adorable, and loved how she could be posed. The only thing I really didn’t care for about her was her orangish complexion.

Fortunately, I was able to send her to Lana Dobbs, and she repainted her with a much prettier skin tone. When I opened up the box the second time it was an incredible feeling of love for her. She was perfect now! Lana sent me a picture of her first and I had to compare her old face with her new one…

When I opened up her box for the “second time” I was pleasantly surprised and VERY pleased…

Well, those are just a few of my “happy” moments with my dolls… I hope you’ve had a few of those too!

I hope you have a wonderful Saturday and I’ll see you Monday…or maybe tonight at the “finish line” of Molly’s dress. :o)
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. It’s such a treat to remember the dolls still in their boxes. The Effners always look like pixies. Betsy’s hair was so perfect. I’d forgotten Ten Ping’s cute sleeping bag and how treasured it made her look.

Samantha has arrived. I opened the box but haven’t unpacked her. She’s wrapped in tissue, but the packing has crushed it so that it outlines the doll. She looks like a very small mummy with a ribbon tied around the middle.

The other thing about all these pretty dolls is that they look new and different every time they are dressed in something different. That reminds me that you forgot to remind us that Autumn Lace ends tonight. I saw the pictures on AGPT, with lots of nice compliments. I think one viewer thought the lace was beadwork because it is so beautiful. The auction is at 6:36, Pacific Time.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
First of all…thanks for the reminder about Molly’s dress. I actually thought it ended tomorrow night…oops. too much on my mind I guess. Tomorrow is Kristoffer’s birthday and I was in La La Land I guess.
Oh…I hope you love Samantha when you see her! There truly is something very exciting about seeing your doll for the first time. Most people don’t get it, but we all do.

Well, I better go…George is hoping I can help him with a fly pen for his new birds… he’s still sore but doing well…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Getting a new doll is so much fun! You almost feel silly because you can’t put her down for long without going back to look again—and again! I love the “new doll smell” too, just like a new car smell, so fresh and new! There is just something ‘MAGICAL” about it, and hard to explain to someone who doesn’t understand.

I love the undies your LD’s came in! Ten ping looks so comfy in her sleeping bag, Betsy is her cute, with her wimpish smile, and Rebecca looks so sweet with her AG JLY doll!

Cute post, and have a wonderful Sunday, Jeanne! Rain is coming tomorrow, hopefully!

    1. Hi Linda,
Getting a new doll for someone who loves dolls, truly is about as exciting as it gets…but you are so right…to anyone else, it’s just like anything else that comes in the mail…ho-hum…

Tomorrow we are celebrating Kristoffer’s 30th birthday!!! How can that be??? He can’t be that old because I certainly don’t feel that old! !!
      But we’ll still celebrate!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I love getting a new doll. That feeling of seeing it for the first time. I am waiting for the new mini Layla from Kaye Wiggs and hoping I will get Gabriela for Christmas. 😀

    1. Hi Christine,
Congratulations on getting a mini Layla…she will be so much fun for you. I certainly hope your wish for Gabriel comes true too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. How fun! Loved seeing your first glances photos. Adorable.
I have my little smiley Margaret Estelle sitting here by the computer. I’ve been quite afraid to pull her siblings from the pillow case in which they were tossed quite rapidly when we thought we might have to evacuate. Guess I too will have a first glance at my little ones once again when I pull them out today. 🙂
We are now back working on the other house after the smoke break. Getting ready to tackle cleaning another bathroom and then more windows. Oh goodie. Hope you have something nice planned for the weekend.

    1. Hi Joy,
I’m so happy you and Margaret have been spending some “alone” time together! She won’t know what to think when all her sisters pop out of that pillow case!!
We are celebrating Kristoffer’s birthday tomorrow with a cookout…probably under the porch…since there is a 90% chance of rain!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Yes, getting a new doll is a lot of fun. I remember the first one I bought for myself was Felicity. I know I’ve mentioned before that my true first one was my PC German Samantha that was originally my daughter’s She came to me in pristine condition because my daughter didn’t have the Samantha love She almost always sat on the shelf was maybe a change of clothes once a year while the other were well played with. I knew I had to have a PC 1991 West German one and Had been searching eBay for a few months for the perfect NIB girl. When she arrived I though she was exquisite. I would go back and look at her throughout the day that first week. The other doll that got that reaction was Caroline. I was hoping her eyes were as intriguing in person as in pictures. I remember tilting her upright in the box and meeting those seafoam green eyes and thinking she was perfect I’m really captivated by the decal eyes- Felicity, Samantha and Caroline.
Hope you’re having a nice weekend.

    1. Hi Laura,
You captured the way we all feel about our dolls in your comments. I’m so glad you got three of your dream girls. The way you’ve talked about Caroline still intrigues me. I was looking at her on again last night…Oh dear…I hope this isn’t the start of a “fever!!!”
      Thanks Laura
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. What a fun post! I am so glad to not be the only one. LOL I recently got a PukiPuki. I have wanted one since they first came out and finally broke down and got her. I still peek at her and smile. I keep touching her cute nose and telling her how glad I am to have her.
