Felicity is liking “Colonial Rose” very much…

YAY! I made some real progress on Felicity’s dress today. It’s coming along nicely and the more I finish, the more Felicity likes it. Can you see why? She looks fabulous in this rosy color! (I think I’m going to call the color Rose.) It really brings out the softness of her coloring. There’s a surprise about it? Can you guess it before I reveal it? Here are a few hints in the way of pictures…

If you click on any picture it will enlarge…

I used vintage lace on the sleeve ruffles…

Okay, did you guess what the surprise is?

It’s not a one piece dress…it’s actually 2 pieces. There’s the skirt section, which actually has enough body to stand out like this on its own without a petticoat underneath…

…and the bodice with the apron attached…

Doesn’t it look like it’s all one piece?

Here is the back with tiny buttons…

I think Felicity looks lovely in this and it’s not even finished yet… here’s one more look…

I guess I’ll see what I can get done on Friday…this one has come together pretty quickly considering I was visiting with my family part of the time too! :o)

I hope you’re liking it…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Oh Jeanne, that is coming together so nicely! I would never know it wasn’t a one piece dress if you hadn’t shown that! How clever, and she could also wear a solid color skirt with the bodice for variety! Upon seeing the hankie several days ago, it seemed questionable, but now I’m all for it, and it goes perfectly! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Off to a busy day with my little grandson! He wears me out!!

    1. Thank you, Linda,
I’m glad you like it…yes…versatility is the key to making your wardrobe go further… a solid skirt would work well…
      Have fun babysitting today!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. When I first saw the handkerchief, I thought the rose was too big, but it’s perfect. Naming the sewing machine sounds like great fun. Thanks, Becky, for asking about the finishing on the inside of the sleeves.

Ask the dentist to use a bite block. It is a rubber piece inserted between the jaws on the side opposite of where the problem tooth is. It allows the patient to relax the jaw instead of having to strain to keep their mouth open. This both allows the dentist consistent access and the muscles are not strained and painful after the procedure. It’s worth a try. I don’t know why dentists don’t offer this routinely.

    1. Hi Susette,
I’m glad the rose hankie worked out in the end because I see you and Linda had reservations about it at first. I took a chance and I hope everyone likes it in the end.
I have the machine naming and the inside sleeve ideas written down for the future…

As far as the bite block goes, I can’t handle them…I think for an average size mouth it might work. But they tried a child’s one, and it made me feel claustrophobic some how… he just puts up with me having to stop often and massage my jaws… I’m very sore today… but it’s rainy so a good day for sewing.
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Beautiful! Could you make one in my size? I love the fabrics and the design is so flattering (even though she has a lovely figure). I love the fact is two pieces, and you are right that it looks like one piece.
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
It seems like you said that about the last dress I made. If not you, someone else did… :o)
Somehow it foes look extra flattering on Felicity, doesn’t it? My doll is the chubbier first edition, so she really doesn’t gave much of a figure, but this dress certainly enhances what she does have.
      Thank you, Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Your work is lovely Jeanne and Felicity looks so beautiful in your wonderful work.

    Blessings.

    1. Hi Becky,
Thank you so much for your kind compliments on Felicity’s dress. Now to get it finished….
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Clever girl! Great outfit. Have no idea how you can work so quickly, especially with all else that you do.
Heatwave is over here for now. Only going to be in the 80’s today. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
      Thank you so much…
      I sewed till midnight…that’s how I g in is he’d what I did.
We are getting rain today…and it’s almost 80 here, so the humidity is almost unbearable. All my windows are fogged up…
      I think I’ll sew. :o)

  6. Ah…the dress is lovely. So clever to make it 2 piece. Love the trim at the waist…. is it cut on the bias? It lays so nicely.
Hope you have a productive sewing day?And a good weekend

    1. Thank you Kathie,
Yes, the trim at the waist is cut on the bias. It lays over the curve of her hips so much better.
      I’m glad you like it.
Thanks for taking time to comment…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. It’s raining here too, which is much appreciated. I’m glad I got the grass cut before this happened. It’s also worth celebrating that your dentist appointments are over.

I did figure out that the dress was two piece. And then I saw I was right and thought I was so smart. I think this will make ironing easier too. It’s a beautiful dress and I’m waiting to see what you add. Tomorrow we’ll see. Have a cool productive day.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I am celebrating right along with you about surviving the dentist appointment. :o)
Oh what a smart cookie you ste…guessing it was 2 pieces. I have worked all day and am hoping I might get it listed…still have a bit to do on it…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Very late to see the post today. Felicity is looking just lovely in her new gown. How clever to have it as a two piece. I thought it must be because of the v front. Looking forward to seeing the rest. Gotta run now and begin dinner. Have a good evening.

    1. Hi Laura,
Sometimes those “V” fronts can be tricky and I wasn’t in the mood for tricks so I decided on the 2 pieces.
I have worked on the dress all day and added a few “embellishments ” that I think make it very sweet!
      I hope everyone agrees.
      Blessings, Jeanne
