Emmie wonders about her new dress…

First things first…
Just a quick note to remind you Nora’s dress, “Victorian Elegance” ends this evening on Ebay. You can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE and be taken to the auction…

This is the dress set…

Ever since Emmie came to live with me, I have wanted to take her wig off and see what she looked like in different colored wigs. Tonight I got that chance and thought I’d share with you a few of those looks. When I was talking to Lana about painting her, I wanted her to be versatile enough that she could wear a blonde wig sometimes or a red one, and not be totally stuck with only wearing dark wigs. I had her paint her eyelashes brown but not black to help with that. Here are a few looks…see if you have a preference.

This is the wig she came in…

This is a long carrot red “Ginger” wig by Monique… It’s a synthetic mohair and my favorite kind of wig…

This is a little platinum blonde wig I cut a while back…

This black wig is a Miranda wig and I’ve never used it before… I got it for Lian, but I always keep her in the bob…

She looks pretty cute in strawberry blonde too…this wig is called Sassy.

Elin or Ellowyne usually have this wig on, but I stretched and tugged and got it on Emmie. It’s a Kana Wild by Jpop wigs.

Recently I told you I had held back a piece of fabric that I wanted to make Emmie’s first dress from. This is it… a dimity and very dainty and lightweight. I already had the wool felt to make a hat…and it matches perfectly.

But I have been debating about this piece too… I picked up this blue piece of wool felt at St. Mary’s Antique Mall recently, and it goes wonderfully with this cream and blue print…

So, do you have a favorite wig and do you have a favorite fabric? Inquiring minds want to know… (Actually, just Jeanne wants to know!)

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Well why not two outfits? You really should add a Patsy or Half Pint to your collection. But for hair. I am in love eternally with the red heads. Don’t know why. Maybe some of my Irish ancestry. Plus whenever I tried to dye my hair it turned red! She is so versatile that you can have a blast.

    1. Hi April,
I’m pretty partial to red heads as I have my very own living one still at home…
As far as the fabric goes…now I’m in a real dilemma. …too many different ideas…
      Thanks April,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Emmie is absolutely gorgeous!!! I am so stressed and short on time but it’s been forever since I wrote even a line. Wanted you to know I’m still alive, I still read almost every blog…still pray for y’all and am so sorry you almost never hear from me. The platinum, the strawberry blonde and the lighter brown of the Kana Wild wig are my favorite colors on Emmie. I think the strawberry blonde is #1. Love and many blessings…oh…and that last dress you did is just sensational!!! Wow

    1. Hi Bobi,
It’s okay that you haven’t commented…I know how busy life can be…mine certainly is…
I’m just glad you checked in so we all know you are okay.
The wigs all look pretty good on her so this is going to be difficult to decide…
      Thanks for your thoughts, Bobi,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. You certainly succeeded in creating a doll for all hair colors. I’m going to vote for the original wig for her original outfit. And then I’m going to vote for the second fabric because I like the second blue felt color better and I think it will be especially nice with her brown hair. Next, I’m going to contradict what I just said and say that once the dress is made and you are ready for pictures, I’d like to see Emmie as a blonde in the same outfit.

I just got the new TM outfit from Ebay. The dress is a knit, which I didn’t expect but like. The jacket is very cute. The shoes are quite pretty in terms of color but quite large. I’ll have to see if they’ll fit my older dolls — some of the newer shoes don’t. At least whoever wears them should be able to stand up in them.

Now for a question. I got a cute pair of boots with an Etsy outfit, but they stained one of Josefina’s legs. What will get the dye off?

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Well, this is certainly going to be interesting to figure out. I’d like to find a long blonde wig with some curls at the bottom…
You might try a Magic eraser by Mr. clean first to see if the stuns come off. If that doesn’t work, probably try the Oxy 10 treatment.
I hope the Magic Eraser works.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Good Morning,
My preference is the Kana Wild Wig; love the soft brown color with the long spiral curls.
I LOVE the white fabric with the aqua and pink flowers; matches so beautifully with the
aqua wool felt! These colors work so wonderfully well with her eyes and ccolorin.

    1. Thank you Laureen,
The Kana Wild wig is really a bit too small…I wish it was still being made…I’d buy it in a size 7/8…
Thanks for your opinions on the wig and fabtic.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. All the wigs look good on her beautiful little face, but my favorite is “Gone wild.” I just love the length and curls. Both fabrics are lovely but I think you should go with the original fabric that you have saved for this occasion. Then use the other fabric for another dress for her.
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I originally thought her eyes might be more on the turquoise side, so when I found this fabric, I thought it was her special dress fabric. Who knows…it still might be…
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. What a darling doll. I liked the pink and blue floral fabric best. For the wig, I thought the brown one with long curls was cute, and also the platenum (sp?) bob were cute. Her original wig is almost too heavy looking for her features.

    1. Hi Deborah,
Thanks for your thoughts on my new doll. I’ve seen this same wig pulled back at the sides and it doesn’t look quite so “fluffy” as it does in my picture. I need to play around with it, I guess.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. First the wig- Emmie looks great in all the wigs but I liked her in the strawberry blond wig the most. Her face is just beautiful and she looks so natural in that color. I also like both patterns of material with the felt you chose for each. There’s something about the first set that pops a little bit more in color and pops on Emmie.
I can’t imagine how excited you are to get to work with Emmie and then to plan the perfect outfit for her. How fun!

    1. Hi Paula,
Thanks for your take on the wigs and fabric choices I picked for Emmie. I could probably pick any of the wigs and pair them with with fabrics and she would still look good in them…she very pretty…even bald!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. In my humble opinion…
Of the wigs shown, I like the original as number one and then the platinum (goes with everyone Ha Ha.) Both seem to make her eyes pop. A red tone may work, but not this one. Just too bright for my taste. The Kana Wild brown also works, but only if the bangs are longer. This one is probably the best with her eyebrow color. I think some of the Monique Gold two tone wigs may be better. I have an Ellowyn-Rose (name of the wig) in Golden Auburn and Golden Strawberry that I think would work for her. I checked Monique and it is out of stock right now. Think you can Google to see it though.
The first dress fabric does go with Emmie’s eyes, but seems a bit over powering to me. I much prefer the second dreamy fabric for her. And maybe a felt headband with embroidery instead of a full hat would be nice.
Gee aren’t you glad you asked us for opinions? Hee Hee
    Hope your weekend is wonderful.

    1. Hi Joy,
The Kana Wild wig is short in the bangs because it’s really too small for Emmie. It’s a 6/7 not the 7/8 that the Little Darlings usually wear. I really had to tug to get it o her.
      I’ve seen that Ellowyn-Rose wig and it’s a cutie.
Asking for opinions has my head in a tizzy…I might just have to pick one and go for it to see if it’s the right one…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I agree with Laureen about the wig and fabric. It’s funny that her eyes seem to be looking straight ahead in the pictures when she is standing up but seem to be looking up at the sky in the pictures taken when she is lying down. Does anyone else get than impression? Perhaps it is the shadow in the lying down pictures. Pushing the wig down a little bit on her forehead would make the bangs longer. Some of the wigs look to me to have too much hair and overwhelm the doll. Have fun with your beautiful new doll.

    1. Hi Susette,
The pupils in the eyes are painted on the upper part so when you tip their chin down they look more real. Laying down wasn’t really a good angle to take a picture of…my lights overhead are the brightest so they show up the best. I wanted to show the color of her eyes next to the fabric. I agree, it isn’t the best shot…
      Thanks Susette…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Jeanne, I’m finally here! I did see the blog earlier this morning, but didn’t know what to pick and so waited a bit until I knew what I was going to say! Well, after looking, looking, and looking, I pick the last one,the soft brown wig, and yes, I would also push it down a bit to make the bangs longer like some other have said. There is just something about that wig, the color, style, whatever, that give her features a dainty, ethereal look. It also looks very natural, but she is certainly a cutie in all of them! She is just like the perfect little girl that you never want to grow up, and guess what? She won’t!!

I like the second piece of material for her. It brings out her eyes and coloring in a most delicate way. Like Joy said, maybe a felt headband with a pretty white rose would work better than a hat. That would be so sweet and feminine!

So now look at the pickle you are in! So many choices and I guess you are right back where you started when you wrote the blog in the first place! We can’t wait to see what you actually do make for Emmie!

    Has the baby come yet?

    1. Hi Linda,
Well, it certainly seems the Kana Wild wig is popular…too bad it’s a size too small.
Emmie certainly is the perfect little girl…I’m so glad she finally arrived at my house.
I truly am in a pickle, Linda, and I don’t know what I’m going to do…
      I guess we’ll see…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. All the wigs look sweet, but my favorites are the original one she came in and the strawberry blonde. The platinum is fin as well, but in that she look no different than Janie does to me. As far as the fabric goes, I prefer the second. The blue matches her eyes better IMO and the fabric look dainty and sweet. I also agree that a hairband might work better than a hat. Looking forward to seeing Emmie’s debut dress. She is one pretty little doll.
BTW did you see AG custom line and Nanea yet? No interest here and I think it’s funny that I wondered what a dark skinned Josefina would look like and though it might be really pretty. Well, it doesn’t to me, I much prefer the Addy mold. Also the choices of eyes and hair are more limited than I thought they would be for the $200 price tag. Just as well. Nanea doesn’t interest me either, something about the larger doe eyed look and painted eyelashes combined, but I’m always glad when a new historical is created, whether I buy or not. I do find it interesting that AG is revisiting an era that was already done, but from a different vantage point- the start to the war itself, instead of the home front. What’s your opinion on them?

    1. Hi Laura,
Well, I have certainly gotten lots of opinions and don’t know just yet what I’m going to do…
      Thanks for your thoughts, Laura.

I haven’t seen the Nanea doll yet..that I recall…Oh wait, when you said the “larger doe eyed doll” I do remember seeing her somewhere. I wasn’t interested in her either.
But I’m like you, glad AG is still making new dolls for us to see…
      Thank you Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. I thought the strawberry wig was cute as could be on Emmie, and I definitely like the first fabric the best. It’s the perfect scale for her. I wonder if with the second fabric the flowers are too far apart? This would make the scale just not right for her. It seems so, but then I don’t have the fabric in front of me. There is no question in my mind about the first fabric, and I do love the dimity, too. I’m so glad you adore this one, too, Jeanne. She is a darling little girl!!!

    1. Hi Ali,
I still haven’t figured out which fabric and which wig to use either…I think I’m just going to have to cut something out and get started…
I guess it will be a surprise to us all when I come up with something.
      Thanks Ali,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Charlotte Trayer

Chiming in a bit late here….I’m still in Mich. with my best friend.

My very favorite wig on Emmie is the platinum blonde one–she just looks so Cute in that short hairstyle/color! But I also love the strawberry blonde one as it goes well with her eyebrow color.

As for fabrics, both are pretty, but I think I do like the dimity best. The elements of the other print are too far spaced to look proportional on her, IMO.

(And, yes, Susette, I see what you mean about her eyes!)

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I hope you’re having a good time with your friend.
I have started on a dress this evening but I’ll keep it a secret till tomorrow. Thanks for your comments…
      Blessings, Jeanne
