Five Dolls and a Dog…

I had a busy day at my mom’s yesterday…this time cooking lots of yummy meals for her. My sister, Deb, is leaving this morning so we made lots of things to put into my mom’s freezer. She’s set for quite some time now… I need to do this for myself sometime…it was wonderful seeing all her containers full of soups and beans and rice and spaghetti sauce. I’m sorry I haven’t been doing any sewing the last few days… things have been a little complicated around here and I haven’t even stepped foot in my sewing room except to box up the black velvet and lace dress yesterday. One of these days, and hopefully soon, I want to get back in there.

Last week I asked my hubby to come into my sewing studio for an opinion on something. I had 5 dolls out on my cutting table and asked him to arrange them in the order of the ones he liked the best to the least. Of course he picked the long straight blonde girl as his favorite! :o)

I have decided to part with these 5 girls for now…I just have to simplify things and use the dolls that I enjoy sewing for the most. They all come from a non smoking home and Reuben isn’t allowed in my sewing studio. (Saige has already been spoken for… I got an early email on her.) I thought I’d ask on here if anyone was interested in any of them before I listed them on ebay. I probably should have taken better pics of them but just decided to use the picture where my hubby arranged them so their hair is somewhat messy… (sorry, I’m breaking my rules…) I’ll try to show one close up of the girls when they were at their finest. The dolls will come nude, but I won’t send them completely nude… Julie will come with her platform shoes…and I’ll find something else for the other girls.

If you click on the pictures, they will enlarge.

Here’s Julie… ( remember the dolls will come nude)

Here’s Lily (that’s what I named this #27 Truly Me doll)

cimg1362

Here’s Saige, (but again, she’s already been spoken for…sorry)

cimg9208

Here’s Josefina…

cimg3462

Here’s Kit… she has had her body patched, and I repainted her lips, but she’s good to go now…

If anyone is interested in them… I can let you know more…

Now look at this sweet guy… he thinks he’s king of the house…and he almost is! Several of you ask about Reuben from time to time and I thought this picture that Rebecca snapped of him was pretty cute.
Does anyone have a caption they think fits this picture?

Well, that’s it for me…the clock just struck 1:00 a.m. so it’s time for bed! :o)

Have a wonderful Friday,

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Reuben looks so grown up and distinguished.

Of course your AGs will be going to excellent homes where they get to wear clothes all the time. You really won’t have to feel bad about them. As I’ve said, I’m finding having a Josefina is great fun — much more than I expected, and I’m hoping yours goes quickly. She can wear anything from Regency to modern with great style — I’ve been happily surprised — and she can be Mexican, Spanish, French, Creole, Native American, and Hawaiian. She’s very versatile.

I find finding the right clothes for Kit very rewarding, and, while the patch doesn’t really matter, the AG doll hospital can provide repairs or even a new body. Kit’s hair seems to come in two styles, and yours has the style with a little more body, which is a nice thing, in my opinion. It’s a little shorter and fuller. The outfit called “rustic ranch outfit” looks especially good on her and, like Josefina, she wears modern clothes and jeans very well, in addition to the wardrobe designed for her. She might look nice in 50s clothes too.

Your Julie is a beauty, so she should go quickly, maybe to someone who remembers ironed hair. Mine was always straight enough that it didn’t need ironing, but I loved having it that long. I’m not crazy about all of AG’s Julie clothes, but looking through Ebay photos, I think she looks good in nearly anything with boots, and long, straight hair is back in style now.

I think if you got one of those braids that go over the top of her head, Lily could easily wear nearly any period outfit — we’ve recently seen her in a Little Women outfit, so we know she can do Civil War, and I think she’d probably look nice in most of Grace’s clothes, as well as Julie’s, Isabelle’s or Nikki’s or anything modern.

Each of these dolls will make someone very happy. I’ll bet they are gone by the end of the day.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I have a little bit of time so I’m going to try and answer at least a few of your comments.
I have been answering emails and taking pictures of the dolls this evening. I don’t think I’ll have any trouble selling them… Saige disappeared quickly and a few minutes ago someone paid for Kit. Someone is debating about Josefina and Julie and I just had a pass on Lily…but I don’t mind… somehow she was my favorite in this bunch…

A lot of people DO use Julie for a model and you are right, she can be very versatile and look good in just about any era. I guess long, stick straight hair that is blonde is a plus!

Well, they aren’t all gone just yet, but it’s a good start.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Where’s my pipe? Reuben reminds me of the old 50’s tv series Topper. Topper wearing his smoking jacket and carrying his pipe. Definitely Reuben needs a silk smoking jacket for Christmas. No pipe please.

    1. HI Joy,
I guess Topper was before my time by just a few years… I was born in ’56. I googled Topper and looked at the images, but didn’t recognize them at all…
George liked that I showed his baby boy, Reuben! I like your comment about the pipe. :o)
      Thanks so much Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Reuben is adorable. He makes me think of a gruff Scottish gentleman. I would be interested in your Lily for my granddaughter. She’s been asking for a #27 to be a “sister” to her Kirsten. I gave her my Molly, but she still wants the blond, blue-eyed doll for some reason. It does look like Taylor, so I guess that’s why. God bless you and Merry Christmas.

    1. HI Debi,
Thanks for your comments. All little girls love those blonde headed, blue eyed dolls, don’t they? Thanks for your Christmas wishes, Debi.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Dolls are gorgeous…I’d take Josefina, but I already have her…you’ve kept them in tip-top shape.

Name for the photo: Reuben, the gentrified dog (I’d put in the type of dog he is but can’t recall).

    Blessings.

    1. HI Becky,
Reuben is a miniature Schnauzer. He’s spoiled rotten by my hubby and he has just started getting up in that chair. He knows he’s not supposed to be in it. Silly boy!
      Thanks Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. HI everyone,
I’m a little behind on things around here… you might as well know… My mom had a wreck the day before my hubby’s first chemo treatment and I spent that evening at the police station with my mom. It’s been a big mess as she left the scene of the accident in a panic and so I’ve been working to straighten things out. She has dementia of some level and it’s coming to a head rapidly. My sister came home and we have taken her car keys… long story… and I don’t want to start a “new” chapter in my life with this… but…
I have the names of everyone who was interested in my dolls, in the order of who wanted what doll first, and will have to get back to you later tonight… I have to go back to my mom’s and get a few more things in order.
More prayers if you please… one day it will all be okay… just not today! :o(
I’ll get back to those interested as soon as I can.
    Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, boy, I sure hear you about your mom, Jeanne–we went thru that with my mother. Hers was an arterial dementia, and it started gradually–the rest of us (my brother and I, and our families) were unaware of it until something happened, and dad took me aside to tell me mom was having a problem. Arterial dementia runs in her father’s family–well, perhaps “gallops” would be a better term–her father and several of his siblings and Their father, and my mother and her two remaining siblings (one was killed in WWII) ALL had it. (They are all gone now….)

When mom and dad moved to a house closer to my brother’s (they’d lived not far from us while our son was growing up, now it was time to be near Paul’s younger kids), mom gave up driving on her own–decided she might get lost. We were SO grateful not to have to make the choice for her!

Eventually she could no longer take care of herself any more, much less be left alone for more than a few minutes, so dad made the decision to put her in a family care home–the hardest decision he ever made, he said, and he cried after he signed the papers, but it turned out to be a very good decision–about a month after she moved in there, she had a stroke!

Long story short–she was in a family home for 5 years before she died; daddy had died two years earlier.

The thing is, that this is going to be a difficult time for you and your family, now–don’t be afraid to make the hard decisions, when things get to that point, as they most likely will, eventually. Daddy was so afraid mom would be really upset at being “left”, but, truth to tell, it didn’t seem to matter to her; she was happy to have visitors (although she could no longer say more than a few words), and seemed content. You just have to look at what’s best for your mom, even if it’s out of your comfort zone.

However, I know you are a woman of faith, and will be considering these decisions prayerfully when the time comes. Hugs!

      1. Hi Charlotte,
Wow…you certainly have been through it! I could probably learn a lot from you. My mom is pretty stubborn and even though we have her keys, her car is at the shop, she’s been told she has to wait on a letter from the DMV to see about getting retested before she might see about driving, she is STILL telling us she WILL drive again. I don’t think so but there is no use teling her that now…
A friend of hers just called me and told me she is taking my mom to Prairie Living, which is a great place just down the road from us. She doesn’t even remember we took her there to see it only 5 or 6 weeks ago when both my sisters were here. Her memory problems are getting worse as each day goes by.
Thanks for sharing your story, Charlotte. I take comfort in knowing I’m not the only one who has had to go through this.
        Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh my, Jeanne, you be sure to take care of yourself in the midst of all this! So sorry to hear about your mom. It happens to us all, so know we have your back and prayers will be said that all goes well.

I am not looking to expand my doll collection, so will pass on that. It looks like you will have them sold soon though.

As for that little Rueben, like Joy says, it looks like he is asking for his pipe, slippers and newspaper!! I too, remember the show “Topper”!

    1. HI Linda,
It seems like I’m the designated “take care” person in the bunch. I’m doing my best, but I’m certainly not getting much done. I can’t let myself get stressed out, so I’m just trying to go with the flow!
I just passed on the Married Couple’s Christmas party…first time I haven’t done one since 1994. Everyone who wants to is going to the restaurant, but there won’t be a program…it will just be a time to eat and visit with each other. I hope they all have fun.
I passed on the Operation 350, that I helped with last year from the Food Pantry. It was where we gave lots of food and a toy to the 350 people who had vouchers. Rebecca is still going to go and she’ll do the gift wrapping again.
I have spent so much time with my mom, my house is a wreck, so I have to get it cleaned up tomorrow.
I’m trying to take care of myself. I got a flu shot yesterday! Does that count?
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. So sorry, Jeanne, about your Mom. Our family had a close call like that. At 88 my mother was still driving and had an accident. Fortunately no one was hurt. She had macular degeneration and had had cataract surgeries. I took her to the ophthalmologist who gave her a new prescription for glasses and said, “No problem for her to drive.”. Finally I called the surgeon who had done the cataract surgery and told him I didn’t think my mother should be driving. He said, “Your mother doesn’t have driving vision.” I hung up and had to tell my mother to call him. I hadn’t realized it but my sons were about to stop speaking to me unless I got Grammie to stop driving.

I had spoken to her about it, but it is so tied up with independence. Even the “You’ve had a long and healthy life, but what if a small child was involved and it was your fault?” hadn’t worked, but calling the surgeon did. It is a real problem from an insurance standpoint for someone to drive with faulty vision and impaired neck mobility, so stand your ground if you find yourself in this situation. Get the doctors involved. They don’t think to ask if an elderly person is still driving. And don’t give your family a hard time and deal with it if you ARE the elderly driver!

Best of luck, Jeanne. You are such a loving and dedicated daughter, mother and wife.

    1. HI Susette,
Oh my goodness… INDEPENDENCE is my mom’s middle name I think. She has been on her own since my dad died in 1973. She had 4 kids to raise and she was 38 years old. She’s going to turn 82 three weeks from today.
This is going to be a battle and Deb and I had a few knock down conversations with her. I’m sure it will all work out, but it certainly isn’t any fun. Deb went home this morning, so now everything is up to me again…
      One day at a time…that’s all I can do…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. It’s nice to remember “Topper” — my whole family liked that and “The Thin Man.”

I didn’t even mention yesterday how much I liked Cindy’s decorating, especially the little houses. And yes, prayers for your mom. Try to take care of yourself too.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I just told Joy, I missed out on Topper… just a few years before my time I guess.

I’m glad you enjoyed seeing Cindy’s decorating skills…she certainly has them, doesn’t she? I can only hope to do that someday!
I’m doing my best to take care of myself. SIMPLIFY is my new favorite word!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Oh, Jeanne, I hope your mom is doing okay and that you get the “leaving the scene” straightened out.
I agree with Marilyn that the dolls will go to good home where they will be probably dressed all the time. It’s funny, Julie isn’t a favorite of mine, although my daughter loves her, but I have seen her wear everything from Colonial to modern and somehow it worked. Glad to see Lily, Saige and Kit are spoken for, I’m sure you’re happy as well. Josefina is sweet and I’m sure will find a good home as well. You are right, downsizing dolls will give you time to sew for the time you ( and luckily for me, I as well) like best.
BTW, have you seen the leaked photos of Tenney and Felciity? Tenney looks so old and made up and Felicity, hmm I won’t even go there. Felicity’s eyes and hair are all wrong IMO if the photo is real.
Reuben is adorable, I hadn’t seen him and he has certainly grown up. I, too, have seen the show Topper. My one kitty is a tuxedo variety and will be hopefully game to wear a bowtie this year for Christmas. Prayers that things get better soon.

    1. HI Laura,
I went over to my mom’s house today and she seemed to be doing pretty good. She said even if she can’t drive any more, she wants to stay there.. well, I’m not sure how that will work. She’s going to go stir crazy in a few days I know, and then what will she want me to do.
It does my heart good to think that the dolls might have clothes on ALL the time if they go to someone else’s house. That makes me smile to think about that.
I looked for the Tenny and new Felicity dolls today, but my satellite is out of data again so I couldn’t pull up any pictures, but I’m going to keep trying. They don’t sound too promising.. too bad!
      I think I’ll look again for them right now…so I don’t forget.
      Thanks Laura,
It will all be better one of these days…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Laura,
I tried again and I found the new “supposedly” Felicity… I really hope that’s NOT her. She was about as plain and homely as any doll I’ve ever seen… there was nothing appealing about her to me.
I also saw the blonde and the African American doll who may be Tenney… the blonde was not to my liking either… oh dear…what’s happening to American Girl dolls?
thanks for telling me about them…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. I’m on my phone which will work and actually post hopefully.
Bless your heart for working through the issues with your mom and keeping up with your hubby’s treatments. Sometimes it just seems like too much but you are hanging in there. Good for you letting others step up to help with the dinner and the food pantry…simplify for now is the right thing for you.☺️
Your dog is a hoot…such an expressive face. I think he is saying….” come and sit by me Dear…Animal Planet is your favorite show and it is about to start!”

    1. Hi Kathie,
I appreciate your sweet comments about the things happening in my life. I know I’m alone because so many of you have shared stories with me about what you’ve been through. I guess if everyone else can manage through it all, I can too.
Glad you liked seeing little Reuben…well, not so little anymore.
      Thanks Kathie
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Charlotte Trayer

I can see why Saige was already spoken for–she’s beautiful!

So glad your dolls are finding new homes….it’s good that they were (or most anyway) snapped up quickly.

As to Reuben: “Don’t you think I’ve held this pose long enough?! I have business to attend to!!”

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I only have Julie left to find her a new mommy. The others are all going to new homes. I’m very happy about where each one is going.

I think Reuben likes your caption…he doesn’t stay in one place very long!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. oh, dear… I see I’m ‘late’ in seeing your ‘sales’… I hope all the girls have found a new home!

  13. I won the bid for a Cecile last month – but, never got her. πŸ™ the seller was new and didn’t realize that paypal didn’t *pay* them immediately – even tho *I* paid… they hold the money for 2 weeks for new sellers. the seller thought I hadn’t paid and never sent the doll… πŸ™

    1. Oh Mary,
I’m so sorry that happened to you and poor Cecile never made it to you. Did the seller relist her? Maybe there is still a chance you’ll get her when the seller learns what happened???? If not, I hope you find another Cecile…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. No – Paypal sent me a refund, so, the seller must have opted out, somehow. I felt bad for them… I didn’t know that payment was withheld for 2 weeks for new sellers, either…but, explained it to the seller when I contacted ebay and was told that. The seller was a poor communicator, as well, so, I didn’t really know what was going on… I’ll find one, sometime – just not now. :-/
