Dogs and Doll Dresses…

Today Reuben got a haircut…a much needed haircut. He was looking more like a sheepdog than a Schnauzer. He absolutely despises getting his hair cut and isn’t the friendliest when we do it. My hubby got some Acepromazine from the vet and it was supposed to calm him down and make him relax a little more. It actually did work, but we are just so slow at it because he had all these mats around his two back paws. I snipped at the mats with the scissors just slivers at a time, finally putting some of my hair conditioner on them. It helped soften up the mats. Anyway, TWO and a half hours later we called it quits. I think the Ace was wearing off and we were wearing out too. I remembered to take a picture of the mess, but actually forgot to take a picture of Reuben. He’s sleeping now, so I’ll try to get a picture of him tomorrow…

  1. Ahhh, very nice doggies, but even nicer outfits. It’s just a delight to see your creations, Jeanne. You are a gifted needleworker and designer. Thanks for taking time to share all of these pretties with us.

    1. HI Becky,
Thanks so much for your kind words about my dresses…and my doggies! Today will be a good sewing day…it’s like a blizzard outside and it’s supposed to snow till 6:00 tonight… My son is coming over tonight to make dinner for us, so I don’t even have to worry about that!

I’m very sorry, but I just realized I need your address for your prize to be shipped to you… could you send it to me… my email address is jeannewiedlocher@gmail.com… I didn’t get it out yesterday because of Reuben’s haircut… (you can blame him!)
      Have a great day,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Next doggie haircut…gift yourself a trip to the groomers! I finally gave up grooming my own dog..a chow/Newfoundland mix because it took me all day and both me and the dog were exhausted. Having a pro do the grooming was well worth the expense!

Love the dolls with their pets and love your blog. Oh, the bulldog pics were my fave.

    1. HI Jane,
I know the dog groomers would be the easy way to go, but my hubby thinks it’s “thriftier” to do it ourselves… *sigh*
I like the bulldogs too, especially the black and white one next to Molly in the red dress.
      Thanks Jane,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jane is right — the bulldog pictures are special. I’m one of those people who prefer to live without a dog, but for some reason all my AGs have wanted one, and all 5 have one — Kit has two.

I loved Isabelle’s red velvet dress. I was outbid on that one and still wish I’d bid higher. Rebecca looks especially nice in her pink coat — AG gives her a lot of purple, but pink suits her better. The red dress with the black collar is very becoming to Molly, but it suits my Lia (Lindsay) just as well, and she won’t give it up even though she has a new Christmas dress.

Millie looks wonderful in that outfit. She’s a very charming red head too.

You use your conditioner on your dolls’ hair, your dog’s feet, your hair, and I’m starting to wonder how many other uses you’ve found for it. Sometimes something becomes an all purpose solution.

The snow is melting here — whatever your weather is like, stay warm and have a nice peaceful day.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Well, the snow is coming down like crazy right now, and 30-40 mile an hour winds, so I will be staying in and I “hope” I’ll be warm!
It’s fun to see your favorite choices from all the pictures…

I think that’s all the ways I’ve used my conditioner… maybe I need to try something else… :o)
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. You’re brave to take on grooming. I’m sure it was hard on all of you including little Scruffy but I know, it has to be done.
I’m uncomfortable just wiping our dogs eyes for fear of hurting them. I had to leave the room while my husband cut our greyhound’s toenails! Our poodles start shaking when they are at the vets or the groomers as many other doggies do. We now have the groomers van come to our house and it’s a lot less stressful for the “girls” and us.
It was neat to see all your girls dresses and puppy dogs. Couldn’t keep my eyes off the outfits though. They are all so beautifully made.

    1. HI Paula,
We tried taking our previous Schnauzer, Scruffy, to the groomer and he was absolutely terrified, so we started doing it ourselves. My hubby doesn’t like to spend the money on the groomer and he’s pretty certain Reuben wouldn’t like it either… Oh well, it was time with my hubby and we talked about everything under the sun!
Thank you so much for your sweet compliments on the doll dresses.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Jeanne, I was just wondering if you got any snow, because we had quite the blizzard here this morning! I think all of the St. Louis region was stuck at home today, no school for anyone either. Power keeps going off and on, due to high winds and heavy, wet snow. It has now moved onto—-you, I guess! I was afraid to get on the computer earlier due to flickering lights and power outages, so stayed off for awhile. Not a good day outside!!

Well, I know you and George are the original “do it yourselfers”, so won’t ask about you taking Rueben to the groomers! I know too, how stressed out animals can be, due to having very skittish cats, so I guess it is best to do it yourself, if it doesn’t take all day and doesn’t kill you in the process!

Love the picture of Molly with the bulldog too! My Molly has a similar one that I got from the gift shop at the Branson Belle. It used to “talk”, but that has long gone away! They used to have that talking dog on the Branson Belle, do they still have him? I think his name is Irving. Well, that’s who Molly has now!

    1. HI Linda,
The snow has slowed down a little bit, but the winds are still ferocious…and the wind chill is 13 degrees!!! BRRRR! Our power has gone off twice already too!

Yes, I guess George and I are the original “do it yourselfers”… enough said!

When we had our girls week, we went to Branson for the Dixie Stampede, but didn’t go to the Branson Belle. My niece works for the Belle, so I’ll have to ask her if “Irving” is still there…
      Thanks Linda,
      Stay warm today,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Love how you combined fabric on Addy’s dress photo #2. And Wren, amazing as always.
Out here, groomers come by vans to homes. Our former neighbors loved their groomer as did their pups. Included massages as well as bathing etc. Well worth the expense and time saved for them since they both worked regular jobs. Just a thought. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I loved that fabric in Addy’s dress… and wish I had bought the whole bolt. I didn’t realize at the time how pretty it made up into dresses.
I know… we have mobile groomers too, but we think we can save $$ by doing it ourselves… since we tried the conditioner on Reuben’s legs, and it helped so much, I don’t think the next time it will be so bad. Poor little guy today, it’s like a blizzard outside and he’s got no fur today! He looks like an overgrown rat!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Think you have to think of your time making beautiful designs and a day spent doing dog duty. There are experts out there and the doggies do not mind. Really.
Know about the doing it yourselves. But, is it worth the time spent? Kind of like the house fix its. Our kitchen needs a remodel. Should we? or just keep waiting forever to do it? We. like you and your husband have always done it ourselves. As you get
“older” maybe you will decide to deligate. We’re just getting to that now. And know how hard it is. 🙂

  7. My favorite dress is the black and white check Isabelle is wearing with the black and white dog. All the dresses are really nice and it is hard to choose just one.

    1. Hi Regina,
I always liked Isabelle in that black and white checked dres too. She a black and white kind of girl!
      Thank you for the compliments…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I’m sorry- I was calling Reuben, Scruffy. I’m such a chicken to try grooming- I’m always afraid I’ll hurt the doggies. More power to you and George!
