Do you want to know which bonnet was MY favorite?

I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at all the bonnets I’ve made over the years.. I didn’t include every bonnet… there were just too many, but I probably have 90% of them shown. I didn’t include my latest ones for Kirsten…and I found one I missed, that I’ll go ahead and show you. I think you’ll like it. Elizabeth wore it very well.

I’m going to put myself out on a limb now and pick ONE bonnet from all 46 that I’ve shown you… you’re probably thinking…that bonnet must be special…it is! But first we’ll have to have a little narrowing down, sort of like a beauty pageant does… I’ll show you my top 5 with 3 more pictures of the whole dress set. Then I’ll pick one from those 5 and show you most of the pictures I used when I listed that dress. Just to let you know, I wrote this post on Wednesday night so I wasn’t influenced by what you said.

This might be hard, but I do have an advantage over you. I made the bonnets and I know exactly how they fit and how they looked with the dress they were made to go with. Part of my decision will be how I felt about the whole dress set, not just the bonnet… see…that’s where I have the advantage. Anyway, I won’t get all philosophical on you… I’ll just pick my top 5 and go from there…

…and now for my top pick…I’m sure you’ll be surprised…

Yep…it’s just this simple little purple wool felt bonnet for Isabelle. I don’t know what it’s always been about the pictures of her in this set, but I always think of it and just loved this dress and bonnet set. It’s probably the simplest and quickest one made in the whole bunch.

One word comes to mind when I see her in this dress and bonnet… adorable!!!

Well, there I did it… that was a pretty big limb to go out on, but it’s done now…no turning back. I’m sticking with my choice…

See you tomorrow,

  1. I really enjoyed seeing the entire outfits. I remember your top pick from Ebay because I liked the way you posed Isabel with the mirror. One day when you have a few extra minutes, perhaps you could produce a set of favorite photos, where the outfit is not the central attraction but you love the overall picture.

Seen with the entire outfit, Lian’s picture now moves to my favorites list. A list of my favorites, neatly typed out, would be very long. I’ll bet everyone of you subscribers would say the same thing.

    1. OH Marilyn,
You are too kind with your compliments on my doll dresses! I just loved everything about Isabelle’s dress set and her tiny, simple bonnet added the icing on the cake for me. I’m glad you liked it too…
I like your idea of favorite photos of mine… I wrote it down for a post…
      Thanks so much,
      blessings, Jeanne

  2. Jeanne, when I first saw the upper pictures, I had to stop at Isabelle wearing the deep purple dress and bonnet. The whole outfit is so breathtaking I couldn’t believe my reaction to it.
You know how I love the American Girls, especially the Civil War and Felicity era, but this deep purple is stunning on Isabelle. I agreed with you without knowing what you picked in the end.
Elizabeth’s lace bonnet is beautiful too. So feminine. And of course, Rebecca in the lavender.
These bonnet’s are like the finishing touch to any outfit. I always enjoy seeing your past outfits and the their details. All are so beautiful.

    1. Thank you Paula,
I think Purple might be Isabelle’s best color… although I did a hot pink dress for her that I think she looked wonderful in too…
Thank you so much for your thoughts on the dresses and bonnets. I love what I do and I’m glad it shows!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Yes, like Paula said, that she had to stop at Isabelle’s outfit, that did me in too! The whole ensemble just fits her and yet is timeless, but fancy and plain at the same time. I love the beautiful purple color on Isabelle, and the white lace accents, gingham ribbon and felt flowers all added together make it a winner in my book!

I very much am in agreement with you about your top 5 picks. I have no idea how one can actually sit down and go through them all and put them in order of how much you like them! I’m doing some inside cleaning today, while it is still very chilly and a bit gloomy outside. Let’s hope the sun makes an appearance to warm it up a bit!

    1. HI Linda,
When I realized I liked Isabelle’s the best, and always seemed to look at her pictures in it, I thought something was wrong with me… how could a simple piece of wool felt folded over with a few flowers added become my favorite? I don’t know how that happened, but it did!

It’s pretty gloomy outside here too. I’m having to do George’s chores, so it’s not much fun. My sister should be here soon, so I’m hoping to have a nice weekend with her.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I keep forgetting that I can’t post from my husband’s computer any more. Something to do with Yahoo updates I guess. 2nd try of the day.
Any how, Isabelle with those root beer eyes wins the model of the year award. Wonderful outfit/hat. I am a great fan of Elizabeth’s lace hat and now seeing the dress, wow. Great ensemble.

    1. Thank you Joy,
I have never thought of Isabelle’s eyes as root beer, but I like that! I also like that you called her the model of the year. My sister in PA thinks Isabelle is my prettiest doll and I’m sure she’d agree with you.
      Thanks so much Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. You are out on a very secure limb, Jeanne. The dress/bonnet you chose is super lovely. Thanks for being adventurous!

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
Not too simple? I’m glad you approved of my favorite… :o)
      Thanks for your sweet words…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. It finally happened to me; I lost my post while trying to enter my email address. I’ll be more careful next time. I couldn’t pick a favorite from the current post. Isabelle is my favorite doll second only to Molly. I don’t remember seeing Elizabeth in the all-lace bonnet which is adorable. I think that’s Elizabeth in the beautiful blue ensemble with the lace-and-flower bonnet with the deep red drop in the necklace that brings out the red in the flowers so well. I don’t think I’ve seen the lavender dress before. Each ensemble is so special with all of the details and the bonnets, all so beautiful and appropriate for the dresses. I’m glad you chose Isabelle as your favorite.

A post featuring the accessories you use in your pictures is a great idea. The little chest in the picture inspired me to look for one myself. Ten Ping was as happy as I was when I found one. Thanks once again for all of the ideas and inspiration.

    1. Hi Susette,
Thank you so much for your comments…it’s always fun to see what you have to say.
I’ll have to think about the accessories post..that would be fun for me.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. The bonnet is darling, I do like felt, and the doll is lovely. I think the flowers by her face are the perfect touch. Yes, I’d vote for both the doll and the bonnet and the bonnet on this doll. Perfect!

    1. Thank you Joy,
I’m glad you think I made the right choice on picking Isabelle and her bonnet for my favorite…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I’m late to the party today, Jeanne, but five pretty girls in five pretty outfits are still here keeping things very festive! Isabelle is a little charmer in purple and well-deserving of the Best Bonnet Award, but every girl has a charm all her own in a Jeanne Marie Original made just for her! With all the right details in all the right places, how well your designs flatter each girl, making every completed ensemble our next new favorite. Just part of the mystery that keeps us reading your blog, Jeanne! Hats off to your talents! (No pun intended)!

    1. Thank you Anne,
I’m so thrilled that everyone was pleased I picked Isabelle bonnet as my favorite. She is such a special doll and I love her to pieces…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Charlotte Trayer

As soon as I scrolled to Isabelle’s purple outfit/bonnet, I thought, “I don’t know about Jeanne, but that’s certainly MY favorite!”

    Great minds think alike, huh?!
