Do you need a FUN activity for your Christmas get-together?

Quick Reminder:
If you have a favorite picture of a doll in a Christmas dress, and want to be included in the Christmas Slide Show, please send them to me at jeannewiedlocher@gmail.com by Tuesday. I’m hoping to have this all put together by Wednesday… but it might be Thursday! We have some pretty, pretty dolls in some pretty, pretty dresses! Thanks so much!

Sunday evening was our annual Married Couples Christmas party. We usually have it at a Chinese restaurant here in town, because the food is GREAT, but they also have a banquet room in the back and I get to decorate it any way I want! It’s always fun and we had 4 new couples at this party, so they got a taste of what’s been happening for the last 23 years at the Couple’s party! :o)

My pictures aren’t great because we had the lights dimmed but I think you can get the idea…

We had the usual introductions, guess the candies in a jar, drawing for a gift certificate to the restaurant, and lots of fellowship! However, tonight we played a game that I thought I’d pass along to you… We laughed our heads off and I think everyone enjoyed it… I saw several versions or variations of it on Pinterest, but I had to make it my own…so I’ll tell you how we played it if you’d like to play it with your family. It’s sure to bring out everyone’s best laugh!

To play it the way I did, you’ll need a heavy duty paper plate, like Chinet, for each person… I used the oval ones…
…a pen for each person…
…a sticker like a bow or a scarf or a snowman hat if you can find them…(with sticky or adhesive backs)
…a chalkboard big enough for everyone to see (mine was about 18″ square)

This is how we started…
I told everyone to write their name on the inside of the plate (the side that you usually eat the food from)
Then give everyone a sticky backed bow, scarf, or hat… (whatever you decide to use)

Now have everyone turn the paper plate over so they are looking at the back (underneath) side of it…
Hold up a paper plate yourself and show them where to put the bow on the plate… (about 1/3 of the way down from the top)
(obviously, if you find sticky backed snowman hats or scarves, or cut them out yourself, you’ll have to kind of show them where to put them on the paper plate.) The idea is just to give them a starting point to work from… They can feel it if it’s a bit dimensional… that’s why I picked the bows I did.

After they get the bows all stuck on, (or the scarves, or the hats), tell them to put the paper plates on top of their heads… then you’ll be giving them directions on drawing a snowman! They can’t take it off their head and they can’t see what they are doing…

These are the directions I gave them. As you are giving the directions, draw them on the chalkboard so they can all see what you mean…this is what mine looked like when I was all done… (yes, I forgot to have them add a smile…)

Take your pen and draw a small circle above the bow for a snowman’s head. Show them on the chalk board..

Next, below the bow, make a medium sized circle.

Below that circle, make your largest circle at the bottom.

Now go back up and put a hat on your snowman…

Add 2 eyes to the small circle… (yeah right!)

Add a carrot nose…

Draw 3 buttons on the middle circle…

Lastly, draw 2 sticks for arms coming from the middle circle.

There was so much laughter, and I had the best time of all watching everyone!!!

When they were all done… I told them they still couldn’t look at their snowman… I went around and collected all the plates from their heads and randomly placed them on chairs along the walls behind everyone… They had no idea which one was theirs because they hadn’t see it.

Here are a couple of the snowmen…

I gave everyone a little square of paper (to vote with) and told them to go around and look at everyone’s snowman drawings and slightly lift up the plate they thought was the best and slip their vote under it.

We had quite a variety of drawings and one huge winner… 19 votes! James was our big winner…

Here’s a close up of his snowman…

After I gave James his prize for winning, I showed the other snowmen plates and passed them out to their rightful owners… everyone was amazed at their drawings… and this brought another round of laughs!

One of my friends said they were going to do it when their boys and their families when they came down… Another man told me he wanted to play this again next year, but he was going to practice every day till then… :o)

A good time was had by all… I hope this is something you might give a try… It’s harder than you think but more fun than you can imagine!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What a fun game, Jeanne!! Definitely something to try when the appropriate occasion arises. (I could also see doing something like the Easter bunny that way, too….)

We are on the final countdown to Christmas!! I hope you’re ready, because I’m sure not!! It feels like it’s only been about 3 days since we had Thanksgiving!! How does that happen every year? I could use a couple more weeks!!

I see your “Christmas Snowflakes” sold, and for quite a nice price, too–congratulations!! It certainly was a beautiful outfit.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
The thing you see on Pinterest the most is the one where you draw a line for the floor and then a Christmas tree and a fireplace and you have to put ornaments on the tree and stockings on the fireplace and then you get points for different things. Like if the tree is touching the fireplace you have to subtract a point because they say it’s a fire hazard. :o)
Whatever ypu decided to draw is fun and I just decided to do a snowman because that was probably the simplest thing to do. It was really a lot of fun and we really did laugh our heads off.
Now that the party is over, I’m ready to get my house in order and make it feel a little more Christmasy….
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. That’s a cute game. Sounds and looks like everyone had a great time. Congrats to you and to the winner of the “Christmas Snowflakes” dress. We’ll see if my girls are ready for a close up today. Are we to send pictures of just one of our dolls? I want to be sure to follow the rules.

I watched “A Christmas Time” last night, a musical based on the movie story, “A Christmas Story.” Several things were kind of weird about it, but the remark about the Chinese college students on break from Yale must have hit home in Santa Barbara where there is a Thai restaurant where the children of the owner worked as waiters on their breaks from Yale and Harvard, on scholarships.

    1. Hi Susette,
I had originally asked for 1 or 2 pictures of your dolls in their favorite dresses but someone sent 3 or 4 pics snd Rebecca added all of them…so a few pictures, will be fine!!!
I want to find some time for some Christmas movies this week…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Sounds like the dinner was a great success. Fun and games too. Congrats to James. Makes me think of the Christmas Story (like Susette) when the family’s turkey is eaten by the dogs of the neighbors, and they end up at a Chinese restaurant, the only one open on Christmas. Great food I’m sure.
Did your sis make special presents for the company dinner this year? Always love seeing her creative things.
Countdown is on, and I’m way behind.

    1. Hi Joy,
The couples party was very fun, but I’m glad it’s over and now I’m on to new things!
Yes, Joy, Cindy did paint some new plaques this year, on pallet boarfs, but she’s been sicker than sick, so I’m not sure if she took any pictures. Their party is tonight and she was pretty sure she wasn’t going to be able to make it. I’ll see if she has any pics to share.
I bet I’m “behinder” than you are!!!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What a fun game. I’m always looking for new games. I can imagine the laughter of all of you at the results of the different snowmen!
Congratulations on your Christmas Snowflakes and to the person who won it. It is just a darling Christmas dress for the Little Darlings.
I watched White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. I love that movie but I really love the inn in it. Then it’s even neater with all the beautiful Christmas decorations. The sets back then were so elaborate and the musical singing and dancing so precise.
    Off and running towards Christmas!

    1. Hi Paula,
I hope you’ll give the snowman game a try. It really was fun…no matter how you decide to try it…
Oh, I love White Christmas!!! Now with the party behind me, I hope to take in some movies!!!
Thanks for the congrats on Lian’s dress…I was thrilled …as was the winner!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a fun time you all must have had, Jeanne! As a former art teacher, this one is right up my alley! I can imagine the laughter and giggles of everyone when they saw what they drew! They all looked like something a 4 year old would make, but the winner’s was really a good one!

It’s cookie baking time here at my house, and I am just finishing up getting them packed in different little containers to give out. That is something I have to do quickly, since I’m forever “trying” out how they taste!

I love old Christmas movies too like the above ladies, and hope to get in a few more this week. The gifts are wrapped, cookies baked, house decorated, now to relax a bit and get into the Christmas spirit! Yes, as Joy mentioned, it seems like Thanksgiving was about 3 days ago!

    1. Hi Linda,
I knew you being a former art teacher, you would have enjoyed this game! Since I was the one “narrating” how to play the game…I didn’t draw a snowman myself, but I think I’m going to take a paper plate and give it a try myself.

I delivered 3 bags of treats to my Postal Clerks and one to my mailman…my bags are dwindling down…but that’s okay with me…less temptation.
It sounds like you have Christmas all wrapped up and can just enjoy the next week doing what you want!!! I want to trade places with you! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. What a fun game. Definitely have to keep this in mind. I can’t wait to see all the Christmas dolly pictures, but I’m going to have to beg off. I had really hoped I could get something together, but the choice between setting up a doll scene or baking and decorating and guess what wins out? I’ve had so much to do for others that I’m completely behind. Hopefully, if you do this again in the spring or summer I can participate.
Congrats on Lian’s dress. If you could only get one Christmas dress made this year, it certainly was a beauty.

    1. Hi Laura,
Yes, it truly was a fun game to play…even kids could do it…
I can’t wait to get the pictures up either…I couldn’t do it without Rebecca’s help… especially since I got this new computer with Windows 10.
I am totally behind too…this surely must be my worst year ever. I just had a crazy Fall that progressed into Christmas.. you aren’t alone…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I am so sorry about Cindy — just what she needs at Christmas. Flu? I keep hearing it’s going to be a hard year for that.

I got my presents off today — late, but so were dozens of other people, all of us carting stacks of packages.
It’s fun to read the blog and be reminded of the things we like or love. I’m a White Christmas fan and even looked the stars up on Wikipedia. Their stories and talents are very interesting.
I’ve left money for my milkman, beating him to the draw before he left a card for me. I need to put together a bag for the hard-working people at the Post Office. I did last year and it seemed much appreciated.

I am so thrilled that the winner of Lian’s dress was just as thrilled. Winning something wonderful should be thrilling. While I’m thinking of pretty outfits,Laura’s idea of a spring photo fashion show seems like a very good one.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I guess we were both in the line at the post office. After I mailed off Lian’s dress to the winner, I pulled out 3 bags of Christmas goodies for the clerks I usually see. They were thrilled and said a big thank you!!
I guess I need to stop fretting that I’m so far behind and just enjoy each day…I can’t add any more time to my days, but I can just enjoy the time I’m given in each one…
      Thank you Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Hi Jeanne,
The winning drawing looks great! Considering how they were drawn every ones drawings look pretty good. Funny story… I had the guests at my daughters baby shower doing the same thing but instead of a snowman they drew Danielle’s baby boy. The ladies couldn’t stop laughing. It was a really cute game… I’m glad you all had such a fun time at your party.
Congrats to the winner of “Christmas Snowflakes” it truly is an heirloom outfit and I’m sure it will be cherished for many many years to come.
It’s pretty late so I’ll close with a Happy Monday Evening.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Hi Ingrid,
I suppose this paper plate game is,taking the Internet by storm…whether it’s for snowmen, Christmas trees, babies…you name it, it’s a barrel of laughs!!
Thank you for your congrats to the winner of Christmas Snowflakes! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne
