Cucumbers & Tomatoes for me and my dolls…

Some days are just busier than others. Today was one of those days for me. I intended to make my way through the foot high stack of alterations my daughter Rebecca, has piled up in my sewing room. I did get started, but then my son came over and he needed a head wrap made for some paint ball competition he was in. So I stopped and did his. By the time I got his done, it was time to get the cucumbers and tomatoes picked and washed and ready to give away at church tomorrow…(we have way more than we can use right now…) Although Linda, one of my subscribers, sent me an Amish Refrigerator Pickles recipe I’m hoping to try real soon. There are more to pick and my hubby will do that early in the morning, but these were some that needed to be picked to make room for the others…

As I looked at today’s bounty, I thought of a few archived pictures of some dolls of mine carrying their own baskets of veggies. I hope you enjoy looking at them…

  1. Wow, Jeanne, that garden of yours is really overflowing! With all this rain, you sure did good this year, so maybe it was worth the rainy days after all! I hope you do get to try the recipe I gave you, but you still have plenty of time for that. I take it that Rebecca doesn’t care for sewing like you do?

I love the pictures of Addy and Kit with their veggies! I never thought of having the dolls hold a basket of veggies, always a basket of flowers! I’ll have to try that. Cecile and Felicity don’t have as many things to do or hold as the 40’s girls, so that will be one extra thing! Their outfits are darling too! I love the shorty overalls Kit is wearing, and Addy looks so prim and proper in her dresses!

The kitchen is coming along, not quite finished yet though. So many little details to do, but the end is in sight!

    1. HI Linda,
Yes, the garden seems to have exploded, and everyone is HAPPY!
No, Rebecca doesn’t have the sewing gene… but she is willing to learn… she’s just a bit busy right now, but she wants to learn how to do a few basic things. She’s been watching me and taking note of how I do things. I think she could do it if she had to!

Thanks for your sweet compliments on my basket carrying doll outfits. I had fun with these little veggies when I found them.

I bet you can’t wait to get back in your kitchen…are you just loving it?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I think, Jeanne, that your garden must be doing especially well, I know it’s not too big. Don’t you think that the best part of having a garden/strawberry patch/ berry bushes/whatever/ is being able to share? The folks that don’t grow their own, really appreciate having something fresh, especially tomatoes, cucumbers, and corn. I do think though that there might be more than a few people who get tired of zucchini before the season is over. We always did! How much zucchini bread will the freezer hold? lol

Unfortunately, we’re in an apartment and have to do all our ‘gardening’ in flower pots. Lots less work but I miss it. When my dad got too old to manage a garden he grew tomatoes in 3 huge flowers pots where they got sun all day and they did really well.

Your dolls look cute with their baskets. My LD in my current eBay offering is carrying a basket to a picnic but she’s covered it so we don’t know what’s in it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/301682874013?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 if you’d like to take a look.

    1. Hi Jevne,
Yes, the garden is doing WELL and the people we give things to certainly do appreciate them.
My mom has grown tomatoes on her deck in a Patio Pot and they’ve done really well.

Your Little Darling outfit is so cute, Jevne. I love her little sweaters and the little smocked top look so cute together! I hope it does well for you. Is there a surprise in her basket?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your garden vegetables look scrumptious. We finally got some tomatoes at another farmer’s market. I like a platter of sliced tomatoes with a little bit of oregano sprinkled over them. Sometimes with an oil lightly drizzled too. They are so good that way.
The AMGs outfits and their accessories are adorable. Great choices of coloring and veggie baskets!
Bless you with your sewing projects!

    1. Thanks Paula,
You are just like my hubby in the way he eats his tomatoes… He uses a little sprinkle on his too.
Thanks for you kind words about the girls outfits. I had fun making them, and still have some of those veggies left… maybe it’s time for a new veggie set!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Dolls are adorable..love the blue print one….but what really caught my eye was the Veggies!! Ours are at least 2 weeks off yet…
Oh, and if your computer isn’t working right it’s because I drooled all over those tomatoes!!
    Happy Sunday!

  5. Oh Kathie,
You are so funny! We DO have an abundance of “maters and cukes!” (as my hubby refers to them.
Happy Sunday back to you, Kathie,
    Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Jan,
Yes it is… and FRESH EGGS every day too!
      Have a wonderful Sunday, Jan,
      Blessings, Jeanne
