“Cool Spoons in a Box” for a Christmas present…

We have a place here in town called Cool Spoons and it’s VERY popular…even in the colder months. I did a post on it one time and you can see it HERE. They serve frozen yogurt and EVERY kind of topping you can imagine there. It does a booming business and is a very fun place to visit.

Well, my brother and his boys absolutely LOVE to go there, so for Christmas I got this brainy idea to make them a “Cool Spoons in a Box” present. I bought one of those decorative boxes at Joann Fabrics to put all their stuff in and then went to Cool Spoons and got their cups to make it look more “official!” I tried to find as many things as I could for toppings… M&M’s, mini Oreo’s, yogurt covered pretzels, gummi worms, sprinkles, nuts, etc. It was fun looking for things to put in the box. I even found some sugar ice cream cones with George and Tom on them… that’s my hubby and my brother in law’s names. I couldn’t resist. I packed it full. Then I put a little note on the lid letting them know they only had to supply their favorite ice cream.

If you click on any pictures, they will enlarge.

When my brother came home on Monday to pick up my mom and take her home with him for a few days, I gave it to him. He was thrilled and told me he’d send me pictures of “the Big Night!” Well, apparently it was a big hit when they got it all out of the box to see what was in there…

…time to make your choices, boys!

Look at the anticipation…

This is Edison enjoying his sundae!

Taylor is being funny with his spoon… (just between you and me, I think Taylor has come out of his shell since his Christmas Concert (dancing debut!) If you want to know what I’m talking about to see Taylor…I won’t even have to point him out… Some Christmas Cheer

…and all packed up…there will be plenty for the next time…

Then tonight I got another text from him saying they were going for “Round Two!” Apparently there was enough for another helping of “sugar!” Then he sent me a later text that it was all packed up again for the next time. He said, “It must be blessed…It keeps replenishing.” Then he called it the Holy box of candy! I’m glad they enjoyed it so much…

I just thought I’d pass that along in case you might want to do the same thing for someone you know… It’s really a fun gift to make AND RECEIVE!

ALSO… just wanted you to know I made a decision on which doll will be up first this new year. I’m just about ready to start sewing again!! You’ll find out Monday… (sorry!)

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you on Monday.
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. What a darling and thoughtful (and yummy) idea for a Christmas present, Jeanne! So much more fun and personal than those expensive wine baskets with crazy shipping costs. I can really tell it was a hit with everyone, especially those 3 little boys! Three? I thought your brother had just the twins, so a little 3rd one is a surprise! Looks something like my son’s 3 boys, but just speed it up about 8 years!
It also looks like they had both grandma’s there too to add to the fun! I loved the close-ups of the boys, and Taylor looks to be completely out of his shell now!
I’m so happy to see that your mom has all these fun places to go to and to share in her children’s lives. She raised a wonderful family!
So, we have to wait until Monday to see who gets a new outfit, huh? I’ll be there!

    1. Hi Linda,
I thought of doing this box for my brother back in September and could hardly wait for December to get here. I’m really glad they enjoyed it.
Yes…little Bobby T makes 3 boys and 3 times the fun!
You saw right. ..both grandma’s were there.
I just picked my mom up at the train station so she’s back home now.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. This was a great idea. The best thing about it is that it makes a really special no-work dessert that helps out a busy mom at Christmas. I loved the idea of putting everything in a really pretty box (JoAnn’s does it again) so that, when it’s closed up, it adds a little Christmas charm to the kitchen.

I’m trying to think of other things you could do the same way. I send boxes of coffee and chocolate to a friend’s family every month but the coffee goes in the refrigerator and the chocolate gets demolished quite quickly. A box of garden supplies — new gloves, small tools, seeds, seed starter kits — that might work for presentation, but the tools and gloves would soon be too dirty to go back in the box.

I’ll bet some of the people on this list will be able to think of some good things. A wreath making supply box that could be kept from year to year and replenished? I’m keeping the ice cream topping supplies idea for summer — it would make a great change from the usual.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I thought it was a no hassle dessert night too! Yes, Joann’s came through again. I really should pick up a few more of those boxes to use for other things. I had picked up 2 when they were really reduced and packed patterns in them last night. I’m working at getting my sewing room all cleaned up again. It was a mess from last minute Christmas sewing and craft projects.
We had a basket auction one time at a school where the kids went and had all different kinds of baskets, Chocolate ones, coffee ones, activities for kids, movie tickets ones, hair accessories ones, stationary ones, office supplies ones, new baby ones, etc. I helped put them together and it was really fun. I guess you could think of any theme and do a box the same way. For a new family in the neighborhood, you could do a box full of food stuffs. I guess there’s no limit to what you could do.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Great idea! Sure it was a hit with the boys. Nothing like candy!
Can’t wait to see what you have chosen for the first project of the year.
Sitting tight here this weekend. Tons of rain. We won’t flood, but poor cabin might.
Pulled out my knitting attempt yet again. Way too tight! Got stuck on knitting two stitches together, but knitting people were helpful. Maybe I’ll get beyond the third row this week. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
Apparently it was a really big hit for their family. I was really hoping they’d like it and they did! You are so right…there is nothing quite like a big candy box to stir up some excitement!

I had to pick up my mom today from the train station, and get her back home. I haven’t had any time to do anything on the dress, but I HAVE been thinking about it all day… I hope I can pull it off like in my mind.

I hope you get the knitting of row 4 mastered this week… I think knitting just takes time! I used to know the basics of it, but that was probably 25 years ago… I wonder if it would come back to me if I tried again?
      Thanks Joy,
Keep knittin’ and purlin’ and you’ll get it!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What fun. Those boxes are so versatile. It looks like the family had a great time. Nice to see a picture of your mom. She looks great. And the boys, what cuties!
I love those gift boxes and have a few like you that I keep in my doll room for certain items.
Several years ago, I got several Christmasy ones and put a few ornaments in them from our Christmas tree and then some new ones for our boys to start out with on their own Christmas trees. Since then they have added many more.
Can’t wait to see which girl gets to model a new dress!!

    1. HI Paula,
I’m just like you…and love those boxes to organize things in… Christmas boxes make wonderful boxes for storing those ornaments in… they just look prettier somehow. I especially like the ones like I gave Bob..with the flap that has some kind of magnetic closure to it. It’s so easy to get in and out of.
As soon as I get your comment done, I’m heading to my sewing room to see what I can get started on “the new dress!” I had to get my mom picked up and settled in before I did anything else. But I have time now… so off I go!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne
