Coming right up… One Pinner Cap and One Velvet Bonnet!

I’m so glad I asked for your help in deciding what to make for Felicity’s head wear. Most of you decided the straw hat should be saved for something more Springy or Summery. I agreed! Several of you liked the idea of the Pinner cap so I decided that would be ONE accessory for her head. Then I looked at a few other Pinner caps and thought I would make one with a wider piece of lace. This is what I have finished so far. It still needs a bit of decorating and a ribbon in the back. I think I will go ahead and finish the one with the smaller ruffle of lace too… lots of pieces for this set.

My lighting was not good for photographing ivory, but I hope you can get the idea…

Also, if you want to see the picture enlarged, just click on it.

Then, many of you thought a bonnet would be fine for a young girl, so I thought and thought and thought about what kind I wanted to make. At one time I had 5 patterns out on my table and even cut a prototype of one out of a piece of corduroy. I thought it was cute, but decided it was more of a Civil War style so I thought some more. It wasn’t until just a little while ago that I figured out what I wanted. It’s just a sweet bonnet “I” think a little girl would have worn if “I” had had a dress shop back in the 1700’s and someone wanted one. It’s not finished either, but I’ve got a nice head start on it. I’m going to take it with me in the morning to my hubby’s treatment and see if I can get it finished. Again, my pictures aren’t the greatest…

You’ll have to let me know if this is what you had in mind… although I won’t be able to change it… I only have a few slivers of the velvet left..

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. It’s like a bonnet but not really a bonnet, and I think it works. I didn’t think the velvet would ruffle well, and I was wrong about that. If this style didn’t exist, it should have.

The Etsy seller I sent the “Dear Seller” link to wrote back:
Marilyn: The blog you sent is wonderful and very informative – lots of food for thought and areas to examine for future improvement. Thank you for that.

    Jeanne Marie has another fan.

    1. Thanks Marilyn,
Thank you for taking the time to let that Etsy seller know about my blog. I hope she visits occasionally and enjoys herself.
We are at the Cancer Center and I have a little sewing pouch filled with more than enough sewing to do today.
I hope to get the bonnet decorated…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. That velvet bonnet is exactly right for Felicity and the outfit! After watching the Felicity movie again in this dreary weather we are having, this outfit could have been used in the movie! The pinner cap will be great too, and I would have liked to see it without the cape.
Let’s hope this posts without trouble!

    1. Hi Linda,
I should have taken a picture without the cape on like you suggested. Sorry… do you think the wider lace looks okay? I like it wider but don’t want it droopy.
      Felicity likes her new bonnet.
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I was thinking when I first saw it, that the lace was a bit too much. After seeing the movie and seeing the pinner caps, they were not very big at all, more like the first one you made, but then again, is it too much with the dress without the cape? I really feel that the lace should not go wider than her head, but then again, someone else might like that very thing. The lace is really beautiful, though.

        1. Hi Linda,
I might have to see about making it a tad smaller. I think it might be a little bit too wide… it won’t take too long to redo.
          Thanks Linda,
          Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Marla,
It is very pretty in person. I hope I can get some decent pictures of it when I list it.
      Thank you,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Marla,
No, it’s not panne velvet…just crushed velvet which is a little bit stretchy. I like the way the brim curls upward just a little bit.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Sounds like the diner is busy today! I’ll have some hashbrowns with that. 🙂
I think the little hat is perfect with the cape. I’m sure little ones needed something to cover their head and keep their ears warm. No central heating back then. And then the pinner is lovely too with the perfect lace. I’m sure the dress shop owners came up with lots of exciting things that maybe never made the fashion pages. Practical things too. Can you believe that my great great grandmother was an English dressmaker. Interesting.
So glad you have things to take along during treatments. How’s that mending pile coming? Ha Ha

    1. Hi Joy,
How interesting that your great great grandmother was a dressmaker! I think I would have done my dressmaking back then…the way I do it now…just the way I want it. So…you are right…little ears need covering so a bonnet works for me!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. First Jeanne, I stopped at the first picture and it brought an endearing thought in my head immediately. “Why this picture of Felicity looks just like your Rebecca.” Even though I’ve never met your Rebecca, I just love her. You’ve shared such wonderful sweet stories about Rebecca….and Kristopher.
I love the velvet bonnet. It’s just right and this outfit becomes more and more beautiful by the day.
I better stop while I’m ahead of this pc. Whew! Made it through without anymore than one freeze up.

    1. Hi Paula,
Thanks for your sweet comments about Rebecca. That makes me smile!
I’m working on the bonnet as I’m waiting on the last bag of fluids to get in my hubby.
It’s going to be the cutest little girl bonnet ever….well, at least I think so…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I agree with you and Linda that perhaps the lace on the pinner could be a little narrower. the bonnet is just darling. What a wonderful outfit.

    1. HI Susette,
Well, wonderful… when I was at the cancer place today, I took it all apart and made the lace about 1/2″ narrower. I basted it all back together and just have to stitch it up now! YAY!
Thanks Susette, for your kind words!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Jeanne,
I just love this outfit more and more with each passing day. Simply beautiful! Someone is going to be one happy auction winner that’s for sure. Hope all went well at the “spa” today.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Thank you Ingrid….
Now, if I can just find the time to get it finished…and then listed… that’s my goal… :o)
I hope whoever gets it likes it. There is lots of LOVE in this one. I have truly enjoyed making it!
The “spa” went long today… my hubby was on the dehydrated side and they wanted to give him extra fluids, and some magnesium… so instead of a short day, it turned into a long day. Then I had to take my mom grocery shopping and then there was dinner…it’s 7:45 and I haven’t stepped one foot into my sewing room yet… but I plan to in just a few minutes. Thanks so much Ingrid,
      Blessings, Jeanne
