“Christmas in July…”

[Sorry about the post for today being missing early this morning… I was working on a project late last night and forgot to hit the “publish” button after I had written it…]

Can you believe it’s July 1st already? Where did June go? The year is half gone and many of the holidays I sew for are over…New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July. I have these holidays to look forward to: Back to School… well, that’s not really a holiday, but I do like to sew for it, Labor Day, Autumn, and Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas… I thought I’d share something with you to celebrate “Christmas in July.” This sweet outfit was one I made when I sold little girls outfits/dresses at my local Farmer’s Market. I did it for 10 years and you can’t imagine how many dresses I sold in that time… From April until November, every Saturday I was there selling my duds! This was one that I had left over. Even though it’s Christmas-y, you could easily adapt it to any season, with any color or assortment of buttons. It’s a size 4/5 peasant top and a pair of capris.

It looks a little “flat” right now, but a little girl tried it on once and it was very cute with a body inside it.

I just gathered up all the red novelty buttons in my stash and sewed them on in a “bow” design.

Here’s a close up of the buttons sewn on. It’s kind of neat how it “jingles” when it moves…

Well, short but sweet today… Merry Christmas in July!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Good morning, Jeanne. I think “Christmas in July” is gaining in popularity. I posted a couple of Christmas pictures on my Facebook page too. And,…now I feel like making Christmas outfits, but I won’t yet. I never even started fall outfits; I just cannot get myself to give up on summer yet, it barely started.
That is such a cute outfit for a little girl! I can imagine the buttons clickety clacking away, love that sound.
Wishing you a lovely day, Jeanne!

    1. HI Cindy,
I’m not ready for Christmas either… not just yet! But soon we’ll be cranking out those red and green ensembles, won’t we?
I have been looking at some Fall fabrics, but I’m like you, not quite ready to give up summer just yet!
Thanks for the compliments on the little girls set. It was fun, I just got it made too late and haven’t found a little girl to give it or send it to yet.
Thanks Cindy…we have rain.. do you?
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. No rain, but incredibly cool for July 1st with just a hint of sun here and there; it’s not the worst day, but not the best either.

  2. What a darling outfit, Jeanne! I love the button design on the front, and can imagine any little girl would like it too!

If it ever would stop raining around here, it might feel like summer with all the humidity! I would love to see the sun here once in awhile! Christmas is the farthest thing from my mind, but I always like shopping at Christmas specialty stores throughout the year. Last summer I bought a bunch of retired AG Christmas outfits off Ebay for my dolls, and had so much fun dressing them up later on in the year. It’s usually easier to get something without paying an arm and leg when you buy out of season. But, I guess you know that!

Glad I finally got your blog today!

    1. HI Linda,
Sorry about the post being late today… I was positive I checked to see that it was scheduled to be published, but I guess I was wrong. oops!
Thanks for your kind words about the little Christmas set, and no, I’m not pushing Christmas either… just a post for the 1st day of July!
I bet it was fun dressing up your girls in their new outfits…clever shopper!
We’ve got rain again too, today!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks Sylvia,
If the second half of the year goes as fast as the first half vanished, it WILL be Christmas before we know it.
      Have a wonderful day…
      Blessings, Jeanne
