Can you stand one more “floor and home” post?

I never dreamed it would take us 10 hours to get the section we had left in the kitchen finished, but it did! It was more complicated and time consuming than we anticipated. There were all those pieces to cut under the cabinets and with “not perfectly” straight floors, everything had to have a template made. We only had 9 planks left and we were determined to make them work…and there was no room for any mistakes. There was the back door that we had to cut around and then down the hallway, where a register was. Then we had to put some kind of threshold to hold the planks in place since they weren’t butted up against any wall.

Back in the living room, we decided to take the flooring all the way across the threshold going into my sewing room because the door is open most of the time and it really would look much neater if it was the plank flooring. We had a scrap that fit perfectly, but my threshold was crooked compared to the width of the plank, so my hubby straightened it up with his sawzall. Then there was sawdust everywhere because he had to plane it down, and then sand it… and then glue the planks in just over my threshold.

It’s really nice now and looks so finished off from the way it looked before. I forgot to take a before picture.

Anyway, long story short… the plank going into my sewing room was the last one we had to use. We ended up with 4 and a half planks left and really would have liked to have had a few more, but it’s okay…

So here are a few pictures that I quickly snapped when we had the table cleared off (haven’t seen it like this for about 2 weeks!)

I thought this was such a nice picture showing the kitchen area finished…until I realized all my dirty dishes were in the sink… oops! (just keeping it real!) ..and yes…those ARE spackling splotches on the drywall in my kitchen. I’m going to paint it soon…now that my floor looks so pretty in my kitchen… (There are a few pieces of blue tape you might see on the floors. We marked a few spots we wanted to check under the planks because they were sticking up just a teeny bit. It might be another nail head or a piece of dirt under there.)

When you turn to the left at my sink, there is a hallway that goes to the back part of our house. We stopped the planks just past the door that goes up to the attic. I caught Reuben in the hallway. He’s afraid to walk over the threshold… I mean “seriously” afraid…He wouldn’t even cross over it for a treat that was laid on the kitchen floor!

Well, I guess you’re realizing by now there are “no hats” in today’s post. There just wasn’t any time to work on that part of the post… I’m so sorry. But now that my house is looking pretty good… there should be time for sewing in the near future! Thank you so much for hanging in there with me these last 10 days or so…

Tuesday is my 36th Anniversary and my hubby said we were going out, so this red kneed, sore all over, tired as all get out, blogger, is pulling the plug on this post…she needs some beauty rest!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, it all looks so pretty, Jeanne!! It’s really been fun to watch the transformation, and to read about all you had to do to accomplish it.

By the way, that was one sweet birthday card you got from George!!

Have a wonderful wedding anniversary!! You’re only a few years behind us–we celebrated 43 years in May.

  2. Oh that is just beautiful Jeanne! You two certainly do have a lot to celebrate for your anniversary, and this transformation certainly shows it! I can’t believe how “fancy” your house looks now! And you know what? The dark ceiling doesn’t look at all that bad. I would seriously consider leaving it, since the flooring and wall paint do brighten up the room and in decorating, the main word is “contrast”. Of course, I’m not there, so can’t really see it in person, but it looks pretty good to me. especially in the 4th picture, taken in the kitchen, looking at the dining room.

Happy Anniversary to two wonderful people, and many, many more!

  3. Happy Anniversary!
The floor looks beautiful! It was a such a good idea to continue it all the way through. It looks so pretty!
I hope you have a great day today!
    Take care.

  4. Absolutely beautiful, Jeanne! I can just imagine how nice it is to wake up and walk out into that beautiful, finished area. What an amazing difference it made!! You inspired me to do that type of flooring in a room we’re creating. Love the colors you chose!! Your husband is wonderful…you are wonderful…thank you for sharing your lives with us! Blessings

  5. The floors look wonderful. Happy Anniversary! I hope you enjoy the day. I feel bad for Reuben though, being too scared to cross over to get a treat. 😀

  6. This has been fun seeing the transformation. I love the whole look. It’s all coming together so nicely albeit the hard work. I’m sure when you get ready to paint the kitchen, that will pull the house together even more.
Your home is a lovely home and it is well taken care of by you and George. Know how, creative juices, talent and good taste, along with hardwork have brighten your beautiful home.
I love seeing the progress and that you have shared it with us. Can’t wait to see how you’ll go with painting the kitchen. I think you should forge ahead with your plans!

  7. Happy Anniversary !! Sorry forgot to say that. ENJOY your day.

Poor Reuben- I understand…. our little girl’s are afraid of flies and they hide under the bed, in a dark hallway or under my bedroom chair. Honey, our black poodle, doesn’t like to go outside because of the noise the cicadas make either.

  8. I missed your post yesterday…. gosh what a project that floor has been with such an awesome result. I laughed out loud when I saw the original carpet…..we had the same thing in our farmhouse…only the orange/yellow version. I was so thrilled the day we laid it and equally thrilled the day we took it up?
Your house looks HUGE now. It will be so nice and easy and quick to to clean.
Your birthday card left me speechless. George is so darn clever and sweet and he appreciates you. Keep that card handy so you can read it every so often?
    Have a great day!

  9. A big WOW! Doesn’t it just looking amazing? What a fabulous transformation. Love it. But, don’t like the sound of those knees. Think you need an ice break for them.
Now, rest up so you can paint those cabinets. Yes, I know a big job, but in sections it will go quickly. Sew and then paint a bit and before you know it, all finished. 🙂 And I love the shelf around the top wall in the kitchen. Very nice touch.
Perhaps on your anniversary break, you may want to stop by Costco. They have the greatest looking shag (modern shag) rugs for a great price. I think you need one right in front of the couch. I believe they have one the color of your pup. Probably a 5X7 size would do it. They are very soft. Daughter has one in both family room and living rooms and they have held up great with three little ones and a kitty. Be sure to carry around a floor sample in your purse so it is always ready to match your accessories. 🙂
Have a great break today and a very Happy Anniversary to you and George.

    1. P.S. When you get new kitchen cabinets, or even repaint, leave room for a dishwasher. They really do not take up much space and are so worth it. They do make mini models, floor mounted that may work for you. We had one for many years before upgrading our 1949, kitchen.

  10. What a great way to enjoy your anniversary together today, Jeanne…your house looks so nice and I’m sure you’re both well pleased with it. Ah, congrats on such a wonderful relationship with your best friend and the many planks you’ve recently laid and can now walk on. Happy I am for you.

    Blessings.

  11. Happy Anniversary!
What a way to begin — with floors you’ve been waiting for for 13 years. When you come home after you go out to celebrate, your home will look new. There’s plenty of time tomorrow for hats, today is a day to rest and congratulate yourselves on a wonderful marriage and a brand new job completed together. Nothing could be better.

  12. Happy Anniversary Jeanne and George! You are such a sweet loving couple with a huge zest for life. I’m so happy to be a little part of it all via this blog. It’s truly an honor to see what a love you have for Christ, each other, your family and your church family.
The house looks amazing! Congrats on a job well done.
Enjoy each today and again happy 36th!
    hugs
    Ingrid

  13. So glad they had enough planks left for the kitchen. Might have look wonky otherwise. Wonderful finishing job on the threshold. Rueben it too funny! The whole effect is wonderful. Won’t Thanksgiving dinner look great in your “new” dining room? Take care of your knees. You’re not used to that crawling around.
Have a wonderful anniversary. What a wonderful couple you are!

  14. I hope you had fun in Cape, the town where I met Michael and got my college education! It holds such good memories for me!
