Buttons aren’t just for buttonholes… on my doll clothes…

If there’s a sale on buttons, especially little tiny ones, I’ll be there; doing my share of “damage!”($$) If the buttons have a red sale tag on them or a yellow clearance sticker, I’ll be buying them all….thank-you-very-much! I think some people hoard shoes…I may be a hoarder of buttons. When you sew as much as I do, you can never have too many! I NEVER have to run to the store to “find the right buttons for my outfit” because I’ve most likely got what I need. You can see some of my buttons in an earlier post here. My favorites are the tiny micro buttons at 4mm wide. I love them; especially when I was sewing for tiny 7 1/2″ Riley, by Helen Kish. Anything bigger, was just too much for her.

I use buttons on everything from pantalettes to hats, and collars to shoes. So I thought I’d share some of the ways I’ve used them in the past.

NOTE: Don’t forget…my black Civil War dress, shown at the right side bar, ends this evening on Ebay! You can click on the picture and it will take you right to the auction.

  1. Hi Jeanne,

Thank you for creating this blog. I read it everyday and love seeing all of the beautiful items you have created. I am just getting back into sewing and just started to collect dolls. I started out buying a couple of American Girl dolls for my granddaughters, and then found all of these other beautiful dolls on e-bay. Holy cow, here I am 60 years old and started buying dolls again! I had never even gotten on e-bay until January of this year. Now I am hooked on looking at all of the beautiful dolls and doll clothes. Your’s are especially beautiful. I am going to retire in 2016 and would love to sew and sell some of my doll clothes on e-bay. I have definitely learned so much by reading your blog.
I was wondering how many dolls you have that you sew for? It looks like from your blog, you have quite a few.
I just received my first two Little Darlings this month, and also purchased one earlier this year on e-bay. I love these dolls!
    thank you for sharing.
    Karen

    1. Good morning Karen,
I’m so glad you are enjoying my blog posts each day. It keeps me hopping to think of new things to talk about. If you retire in a few years, you’ll have lots of sewing practice under your belt and will be ready to sell your things just as you hoped.

I have 16 dolls at the moment, but I’ve sold quite a few in the past, 14 last year alone.
I have 6 American Girl dolls, 3 Ellowyne Wilde’s from Robert Tonner, Patsy from Tonner,
Elin from Iplehouse , two 18″ Resin dolls called Nyssa and Hope by Kaye Wiggs, and 3 Dianna Effner 13″ Little Darlings.

I bet you are having fun with your new little Darlings, aren’t you?
      Thanks for sharing with me,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. You DO use a lot of buttons! Are you a buttonaholic, Jeanne? I’m just kidding you…cute post, made me smile on this chilly grey morning. Hope it’s sunny by you.

    1. Cindy,
I think I “might” be a buttonaholic… where do you go for help for this???
Thanks, and it’s chilly here too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jeanne, if anyone knows what to do with a button, it’s you! I just love the way you use them, and giving each outfit a custom touch!

I don’t know about you, but my grandmother would keep all kinds of buttons in a big cigar box, and one of the fun things to do when at her house was to look at all the wonderful buttons my grandma had collected. Sweet memories!

    1. Linda,
I LOVE buttons in boxes… and have been known to buy my fair share of them. My hubby even helps me out… if he sees a jar of buttons at a yard sale, he’ll pick it up and say, “I’m sure my wife needs these!” Way to go honey!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I love buttons too! But unfortunately, I lack the skill to use them like you do. I recently boxed up all the sewing things I had and gave them to a friend who, like you, makes beautiful doll dresses and has many other talents. I know she will put it all to good use.

I love how you embellished the bottom of pantaloons and a petal-like collar. Your creativity is like eye candy. :o)

  5. Thanks Carolyn,
I’m glad you and everyone else liked the way I use buttons… like I said, they aren’t just for buttonholes to me!
    Thanks for the compliments!
    Blessings, Jeanne
