Blondes in Blue…

I really do think blondes look great in blue… not that brunettes don’t, but there is something about a blonde in blue that just catches your eye.
See if you don’t agree…

So that was my intro to today’s post. I hope this next one will catch your eye too…

I went through my notebook and listed which dolls had gotten dresses since the first of the year and noticed a couple of surprises… Elizabeth hadn’t been seen November and Lian hadn’t had a dress since her red Christmas dress back in November either…that’s unheard of for Lian to have gone 6 months without getting a dress from me… a few others were missing from the list so I just wrote their names down and decided I needed to make them all a dress. Elizabeth was first and there’s nothing I enjoy more than seeing her in a Regency dress. She has that extra long neck and with Regency dresses, they are usually low cut so it generally shows off the necklace well… (I’ll have to get “my” Rebecca on that right away!)

Elizabeth also looks wonderful in the color blue and I had a scrap that was just big enough to cut out a dress for her and even have a train! I got a little bit of a head start this afternoon and evening and wanted to get your “approval” to see if I should continue… I used some of the lace that my sister, Cindy, sent me and it looks very pretty on this royal blue color.

The gown has a square neckline and I’m “sure” there will be some beading or embroidery work on it… don’t you agree? I carried the lace trim onto the sleeves and made them a slight bit longer than just having that narrow cuff like I generally do. I made them fairly puffy and like the look so far.

I added a band just under the bust because I want to tie an ivory silk ribbon there and have it lay perfectly flat. There are a few gathers in the bust and back area to make Elizabeth feel a little more “grown up!” The skirt is just wrapped around Elizabeth and tied in place with the silk ribbon. It will be nicely gathered and fall to the back in a pretty train. So the next time you see it, it should look different…but prettier. At least that’s the plan.

We are off to the 100 yard sale like we’ve done for the last few years. I’m sure we won’t make it nearly that far… my hubby just can’t do it right now, but he did offer to be our chauffeur and he told me and Rebecca if we see “tools” any place just wave for him to come… :o) He loves tools! :o)

Well, I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I think baby blue is especially becoming to dark hair — I gave your Blue Diamonds dress to my Lindsay and she looks lovely — but the medium blue that you show a lot of here is very good on blondes, and Elizabeth looks very lovely in her new dress. I like the longer sleeves with this lovely lace trim. Do you know what would be pretty with this — another lovely lace fan. At least it’s something to think about.
I love the buttons on Janie’s dress.
Have a lovely time at the 100 yard sale. I hope your weather is perfect.

  2. Well, here I am, but this mail address change is kind of confusing to say the least! I am now Linda D. instead of Linda Doyle, since I have changed my email address.
Oh yes, Jeanne, blondes look very good in blue, all kinds, from navy blue to baby blue and all the blues in between!
The blue of the new dress coming up for Elizabeth really makes her eyes shine, and the lace is precious! She will be the belle of anything she desires to be doing, perhaps going out for a stroll. Maybe a parasol for this one?
Have fun today on your yard sale trip, because tomorrow is supposed to be raining!

  3. Elizabeth’s new dress is starting off very well. The fabric looks beautiful on her and it highlights her eyes. I agree the neckline, while lovely, would benefit from your special touch. The sleeves are lovely. A delightful amount of poof in them. Overall the entire bodice looks like it fits exquisitely.
The 100 mile sale sounds like a great deal of fun. I hope everyone finds fun items at great prices!! I’m looking forward to hearing about the trip.
    Have a great day!
    Take care.

  4. One of my top favorite items you’ve made is the blue embroidered jacket Nyssa is wearing. The shape looks like one that could only be seen in an illustration and would be too difficult to duplicate in fabric. Love it. Congrats again on Southern Charm. Have fun at the 100 yards sales.

  5. Oh Jeanne, I hope you’ve had wonderful finds (for all) at the yard sales today. That sounds like so much fun.

Blondes and blues are certainly attractive as you’ve illustrated. Elizabeth is going to be stunning in her new dress. You do make such gorgeous outfits for your dolls. I cannot tell you what a blessing it is to be able to see your creations and walk along with you as you make them. Thank you so much.

May your weekend be a blessing in many ways.

  6. You have certainly been busy! Love the blue.
So envious of your yard sales. What fun!
Plumber due here in a few minutes. Will be so nice to get this problem fixed. Or hopefully they can fix it.
My Libby in on her way and due here on Tuesday. I can hardly wait! Thanks everyone for your nice comments on her. I do hope to be able to make her a welcome home outfit.

  7. First to comment on the lovely Civil War dresses from yesterday. I like the yellow/ black one on Addy, the lavender and green one on Rebecca, the next dress on Addy with the white sleeves peeking out, the Christmas plaid on Rebecca, “Springtime in the South” (no surprise there), the gorgeous coral red with the blue ribbons on Addy, and all three Little Women dresses, but Rebecca’s especially.
Yeah!! A Regency dress is a great style to see as well. Elizabeth looks beautiful in that blue and I agree with Linda that another lovely fan would be the perfect accessory. I really enjoy Regency movies, but haven’t chosen to have my dolls represent the era.
    Enjoy your treasure hunting.

  8. That beautiful blue will be perfect. Can’t wait to see what you add to the lace. I have a feeling you already have a plan.
    Enjoy the 100 mile sale!

  9. Well, you are certainly not one to rest on your laurels, Jeanne! How quickly you’ve turned this “scrap” of blue into beautiful beginnings for Elisabeth, and how becoming it looks on her with her blond tresses and brilliant blue eyes. I love the Regency Era, and I will look forward to how you embellish this design, as I will look forward to the tales from your “100-yard-sale” adventure and the treasures you discovered along the way. I hope your day was delightful!

Hope you had a good time at the 100-mile yard sale today, and found some goodies!! How did George do?

My favorite of the girls in blue is probably Riley–she just looks so sweet!

I love the beginnings of the new dress for Elizabeth–she looks fabulous in that bright blue!!
