Betsy McCall’s take on the Red, Gold and Green Christmas dresses…

My hubby and I worked on our porch some more yesterday so my sewing time on the doll dresses was limited. I did, however manage to get something done on them that makes them look more like dresses… I attached the skirts to the bodices. Now they are starting to take shape, I think.

If you click on any picture it will enlarge.

Here’s a close up of the girls in them… My lighting wasn’t the greatest at 11:15 last night, so my pictures aren’t too good.

Lian is getting the Blessings of Joy dress…Janie has on the Blessings of Hope dress…

…and Isabelle has on the Blessings of Peace dress…

I think it was Anne who wished me blessings of peace, hope and joy as I got back to my sewing… I liked those words and decided to give the dresses names.

Betsy McCall got down from the stand she was in and asked if she could try on the Blessings of Peace dress…

…looking pretty cute, Betsy!

“Now can I try on the Blessings of Joy dress?”

“I think I’m going to like here very much!”

Well, not too much to show, but it won’t be long now… lots of details still, but I hope you’re liking them so far… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I like very much how you fit the bodice of the dress so nicely to their bodies. It looks so perfect, and the puffed sleeves, too. I also like the colors of the fabric. I just realized when he mentioned Betsy that I also have one of those dolls, mine in Red Riding Hood outfit. Hmm…thanks for the reminder. Beautiful work as usual.

    1. Thank you Joy,
I appreciate your sweet comments about the girls dresses. So you have a Betsy doll too…yes…you better go find her!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Betsy looks lovely in both of the dresses. I’m sure she is saying, first time I’ve ever had a “new” dress. I’ll have to pull out the rest of my Betsy group. Cousins Barbara & Linda McCall, Sandy, and friend Drew. They all are cute.
Keep up the good work. Christmas is just around the corner.

    1. Hi Joy,
I’ve learned more about Betsy Mccall in the last week than I knew about her my whole life. Several ladies have called her a pixie or having an impish look. I think she is so fun looking!
Yes, you better pull out your friends of Betsy’s for the Christmas season at least.
      Thanks again Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your dolls just bring out the beauty of these dresses, Jeanne. What brightness they all bring with their cute little faces and those pretty dresses on them. Thanks once again for sharing your progress…nice to know that the porch is getting more done on it too…that must feel really good.

    blessings.

    1. Hi Becky,
My hubby was going to pick up some white paint today so I bet I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow. It will be nice to have it all clean and bright when I look out my kitchen window.
I worked at the Food Pantry today, came home and I’m in the process of making 3 homemade pizzas for a men’s meeting he has tonight. I’m hoping desperately to get a few more things done on the dresses tonight.
Bit by bit I guess they will get finished.
      Thank you Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I think Betsy looks cute in anything she wears! I can see her as being the teacher’s pet in school, so cheerful and upbeat! She looks adorable in each dress, but I do like her best in the red!
I’m late today because I wanted to get going and get my shopping done. Yesterday I went to Kohl’s around noon, and could not find a parking space, so came home! Today I got there at 8 and was the first one in the store! Got everything in 1/2 hour!!

Oh, Jeanne Marie can make dolly undies and a pretty slip for Betsy?? I didn’t see any in the Etsy shop, so didn’t know if you did that or not. Well, I know you COULD, but would you? How do I go about that?

    1. Hi Linda,
I’m with you…I like her best in the red print too.
Good for you on getting your shopping done early. I need to sit down and figure out some gifts. I only know of one thing for sure…something for my brother.
Rebecca will graduate from SIU in December and we’d like to have a little party for her…so I need to get working on that.
Sine I have Betsy now, let me play with making some panties…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. The dresses are certainly looking festive and I like the names you have for them, thanks to Anne’s help. Betsy looks sweet in both dresses, but I’m with Linda in that the red really makes her shine. She is smiling brightly, I think she will love living with you and trying on all the pretty dresses. Lian, Janie and Isabelle will have to introduce her to the dolly toy box as well. 🙂 I really like those fabric prints for Christmas with the gold outlines. My daughter had one my mom made that had a black background with red poinsettias and purple ribbons all outlined in gold, alas long outgrown, but saved.. That a great thing about dolly dresses- they fit forever.

    1. Hi Laura,
I thought for sure, Betsy , with her reddish hair would look better in the green , but she shines, as you say, in the red.
I love Christmas prints that are gilded and prefer them to regular prints most of the time. I have quite a few but these 3 seemed to all be the same scale and coordinate well together.

You are SO right…dolly dresses fit forever!
      Thank you Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Ohhh Jeanne, what a beautiful trio of blessings your little darlings are in their gilded dresses, and Betsy truly does shine in the red with her matching hair bow. Your fit is perfection, and the lovely full skirts will be fun for twirling. 😉 Whoever wins these charming Christmas confections will no doubt be delighted!

SewMuchMoreToSew on Etsy makes adorable underthings for the Little Darlings, and DreamyDoll sews more modern undies for the Wellies, both of which may fit Betsy. Boneka Doll Fashions on eBay also carries underthings on their site as well as at dollpeddlar.com, which should fit Betsy, too.

Thanks for sharing your progress on the porch and the pretty party dresses, Jeanne. We’re always glad for your updates. Wishing you a relaxing evening with time for sewing.

    1. HI Anne,
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on the girls dresses. They are as anxious as I am to get them finished. Betsy doesn’t quite understand the “ropes” but she will soon! My girls are very good teachers!
Thanks for the heads up on the underthings for the dolls… I haven’t forgotten about your slip either…it’s still on my to do list!
George came home with a gallon of paint today so I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow…it’s supposed to rain on Friday, so it needs to get done ASAP!
      Thanks so much Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. My Betsy is wondering why your Betsy didn’t try on the Blessings of Hope dress (yellow). She said to tell you, it’s her favorite color!

The dresses look lovely, Jeanne, although I have to say the red one is my favorite….Looking forward to seeing what else you’ll do with them!
