Baking, Birthdays, and Becca’s Beads…

Baking:
Well, I’m sorry if you were expecting to see Rebecca’s pleated skirt attached to her bodice with the new puffy sleeves. I never made it into my sewing room yesterday except to take some pictures. It’s kind of a special day today….it’s my hubby’s birthday! I baked him his favorite cake… a German Chocolate cake… and some chocolate chip cookies. He has a men’s meeting tonight and I thought it would be fun for him to celebrate his birthday with some guy friends..and some fun food! Some other people are bringing veggies and dip, and some pizza I think. They’ll have a good time.

Birthdays:
I am so grateful to have shared so many birthday’s with him… this is the 35th birthday we’ve celebrated together. He’s 2 years younger than me so I can’t call him an old man or I’d have to call myself an old lady and I’m not ready to do that just yet. He is the love of my life and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank the Lord for saving him for me! He truly is my prince and I’m very thankful.

Beads:
Rebecca has been very busy making some ladies necklaces for Mother’s Day and Easter. She wanted to sort of give a “preview” of them before we put them in our Etsy shop. They are all made of glass and stones and are very well made. There are some really pretty ones in this grouping and I took a few pictures to try and capture them as best I could. They really are the kind of necklaces that would be fun to show at a “home jewelry party” for you to see and feel the weight of them and try them around your necks. But since we can’t get together like that, this is the next best things… pictures and mannequins showing them off… They run between $16 and $25. I hope you enjoy them… If you have any questions…just ask and I’ll find out the answer…

Our mannequin has a pretty skinny neck, so the necklaces don’t hang down quite as much as they appear to on a real person. I can give you length measurements if you like…

  1. Happy Birthday to George–a day late! So you are another one who robbed the cradle, Jeanne! Me too, but by just one year!

Oh those necklaces are just lovely! I do like that topaz colored teardrop one a lot! That’s my birthstone! I wish I had the exciting places to go wearing it!!

Wasn’t yesterday a great day to be out? I got a lot more done in the yard once we finished voting. I am so sick of the political commercials on TV all the time, aren’t you? And, we DO get Illinois political ads too, to add to the frustration!!

Maybe now we can see how Rebecca’s dress turns out!

    1. Hi Linda,
Actually I wrote that post early this morning so it’s his birthday today! Yep, two cradle robbers… you and me!

You picked my favorite…the topaz one…I tried it on and it’s so weighty and feels so wonderful around my neck… Thanks for the compliments on them…

It was a beautiful day yesterday and today is pretty sweet too. I just got home from working at the food pantry. It’s Spring Break this week, so Rebecca went with me and we worked together. (Yep, I hear you on the commercials…)

Let’s hope I can get something done on the dress now…
      Thank you Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I hope George had a great birthday with his guy friends. German Chocolate cake from scratch is the absolute best!! I’ve got you all beat robbing the cradle – my husband is 9 1/2 years younger than me. I never considered myself a “cougar,” just lucky to have found someone who is loving, kind, and so smart. When I think back that I was 40 and he was just 31, it seems so ridiculous!

Rebecca is so talented!! Her necklaces are gorgeous! I often don’t wear necklaces because I have such a big neck! I usually need 20″ for it not to be a choker on me. I’m more into bracelets, and have started doing bead weaving/stitching. It’s intricate work, but I can handle that 3 yards+ of beading thread on the needle just fine. I wish her the best of luck with her sales! She should do very well!

I hope you get a chance to sew today. I’m wishing the same for myself. 🙂

    1. HI Karen,
Actually today is my hubby’s birthday and he’s working but he’ll have fun tonight. I heard it through the grapevine it’s going to be a fun night for him! I’d love to be a ladybug on the wall….sorry, I couldn’t resist.

I think AGE is overrated… just go for kindness and love!

Thank you for the nice compliments on Rebecca’s necklaces… I’ll let her read them all when she gets home…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Very pretty necklaces….beads, baubles, birthdays, chocolate…your house is very rich indeed. Blessings to you and your husband as you celebrate another gift of a year of life together on his birthday.

    Take care.

    1. Thank you Becky, for the sweet birthday wishes and the compliments on the necklaces…
Rebecca and I had a little “birthday time” with my hubby before we left for the Food Pantry.

      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I hope that George had a wonderful birthday!!! German Chocolate cake is one of my favorite varieties as well. There is a German restaurant about an hour and a half from here that makes a great German Chocolate cake as cream puffs, but we haven’t been in years, so I now make both myself. I LOVE to bake from scratch, so I tweak recipes until they’re perfect.
Rebecca’s necklaces are lovely. I especially like the one in the third last picture with the seven ovals hanging down..

    1. HI Laura,
It was actually early this morning when I wrote this post, so “today” is his birthday and I’m sure he’s enjoying it. If my hubby finds out about a German Restaurant, he always has to check it out….German Chocolate Cake Cream Puffs sound divine!

That emerald green and gold one is very pretty in person. I need to take my pictures outside in the natural light to capture their colors the best. They just look sort of flat a dull inside.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Nice to hear about your day. George is a lucky man. Rebecca’s necklaces are lovely. I especially like the last one. Have a great day sewing. You are all so creative.

    1. Hi Susette,
I haven’t heard from my hubby today so he must be having a good day and he’ll have a nice night with the married men too… I think they are planning a few things for him.

Yes, that turquoise one is very pretty in person and when I tried it on, I thought I might have to keep it, but decided to pass…. “for now….”
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Christine,
I’m glad you got one of the “good hubby’s” too! There’s nothing quite like a good man, is there?
Thanks for the compliment on the necklaces…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hummm…I wonder if German Chocolate is the favorite of lots of guys. My hubby loves it too. We will have our 50th Anniversary next month…I really can’t believe it. Trying to think of something fun to fit the occasion for him.Any of you hit that that milestone? Any ideas for me?
Rebecca’s necklaces are so pretty and she has them in the perfect spot on the mannequin.
Lots of colors that so “in ” right now too
    Have fun sewing today!

    1. Kathie, my hubby and I will be married 50 years this coming December! Can’t believe that either! Not sure what we are doing, but trying to figure out something too. If you come up with anything, let me know!

    2. HI Kathie,
Wow… 50 years! That’s great! I love to meet people who have been married for a long time and chat with them… We’re only going to celebrate 35 years this September, but we’ll catch you soon!
As far as what to do for your 50th Anniversary…hmmmmm…. They call me the “Game Queen” at church…but I’ll have to think on this big milestone…
Rebecca loves to bead and she was on a roll with ladies this time…
      Thanks so much, Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi Jeanne,
Happy birthday to George and may he have many wonderful blessings to come. How sweet of you to make him his favorite cake. German chocolate …. wonderful!
My husband is about 2 years younger than me and the love of my life too. He’s not into cake as much, so I’ve always made him his favorite cookie- Butter Crescents.

Rebecca’s necklaces are beautiful. The stones she chose are very pretty. The blue necklaces together are neat. What talent!
    Have a great day, Jeanne.

    1. HI Paula,
Thanks for the birthday wishes to my hubby… He absolutely LOVES German Chocolate cake so it’s pretty special when I make it for him. Oooooo… Butter Cresents sound yummy… is it like a shortbread cookie? It sounds like a Lorna Doone cookie…

Rebecca loves to bead and she will sometimes ask my opinion on things, but most of the time she puts the necklaces together all on her own… I stay out of it, but yes, she is very talented and has fun doing it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Sounds like everyone is busy at your place. Looking forward to corned beef/cabbage in the crock pot tomorrow.

    1. HI Joy,
Yes, we are quite busy at home today and I just got a call letting me know it would be alright it show up at the “party” after the meeting tonight… So my evening might be busy after all…

Corned Beef and cabbage? My hubby would invite himself over if he could. He loves that!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. The necklaces are very pretty–Rebecca always finds such nice beads and findings, and of course, she knows how to combine them to make them even prettier. I’m always partial to the multi-strand ones, so that one is my favorite.

I hope George had a happy birthday. A good husband is something worth celebrating!

    1. HI Carolyn,
Thank you very much for the nice compliments on Rebecca’s necklaces. She does do a nice job and it’s wonderful having a “jeweler” in the house if you need one. She made me 2 new pairs of earrings the other day and I love them!

I’m sure my hubby is having a fun time, but I just got a call to come in for the fun too, when it gets to the food part. So Rebecca is taking me in so he won’t know…
      sneaky, sneaky, sneaky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Hi Jeanne,
Just wanted to tell you about the cookies I make my husband for his birthday and Christmas. It’s kind of funny because I can’t stand to make them but I do because my husband is a pretty good guy.
They are from a Swiss recipe with chopped pecans that replaced my mother in law’s original recipe that had walnuts.
The butter dough gets rolled into crescent shapes (which is a pain), then once they’re baked, the cookies, which are still very warm, get rolled in powder sugar. Another horrid experience.
By the time they’re completed and in a cookie tin, I liturally have to wash the kitchen down from all the powder sugar that gets everywhere.
However, my husband looks so cute with the cookie tin on his lap and powdered sugar on his face! It feels my heart with happiness even though I hate making them. Truly a labor of love!

    1. HI Paula,
I’m so glad you shared your story about making your hubby’s favorite cookies. They sound yummy, and sort of like the Mexican Wedding Cakes that I make… they are messy to make to, but melt in your mouth delicious! How can we not make what they love? Oh, you’ve got me wanting to make some of them now. I just bought a new package of pecans… oh dear…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne
