Baby, it’s COLD outside…

My sister in Pennsylvania sent me this picture of what she drew on her chalkboard, and it gave me the idea for today’s blog post.

We got an ice storm last night and while it’s pretty in pictures, it’s awful to maneuver around in. That’s why I’m at home today…taking pictures from my windows! I know we only have a fraction of the headache that some out East are having, but I wanted to share a few pictures of “Our Winter Wonderland!”

One of our big tall pine trees is leaning pretty precariously toward the side… already several big limbs have fallen off of them…

The mailman just came… so I’m going to put on some boots and head to the mailbox…If I’m not back in 5 minutes, send out the posse!

See you tomorrow…and please… STAY WARM!

  1. Gosh, Jeanne, you really got the ice! We had nothing like that, just a thin layer of ice on the sidewalks, streets and driveway, plus snow. It really warmed up yesterday afternoon, and so much of that is gone now. Love, the Cardinals perched in the trees! I hope you don’t get too much permanent damage there with all that ice.

Are you feeding the birds? I am just throwing out sunflower seed, no way to get to the feeders, and what do you know? A WHITE squirrel has been coming by! How about that?

    1. HI Linda,
We just got back from visiting my mom after church and it’s so weird…over by her house (about 15 minutes from ours) we noticed the ice was mostly gone from the trees. So we thought when we came home we’d see that our trees and bushes were ice free as well, but it was the strangest thing…the closer we got to our house the more we began to see the ice on the trees, and it’s funny, but we have way more ice than the east side of town… everything is still pretty much encased in ice here. We noticed a few more big branches off the pine trees when we got home too.

I am SO SO SO ready for Spring!
Yes, we are feeding the birds…and they seem so grateful…some of them don’t even fly away when my hubby walks by walking the dog.
A white squirrel, huh? That’s pretty neat. I remember reading about some town around here that had a white squirrel… I think they are quite rare. Give him lots of corn and he’ll be your new pet!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Really pretty pictures Jeanne, even if it’s of the dreaded ice. I really like the cardinals too! We got about 4 more inches yesterday but are hoping for the meltdown today that Linda was talking about. Be safe in all that ice! Hope the trees are ok too! Love you!

    1. Hi Cindy,
The other day George said he counted 10 Cardinals in the tree waiting to get to the feeder. I waited for a good picture, but could only get 3 in one picture.
We still have plenty of ice on things here, and the temps are supposed to be super cold this week, so I guess we’ll be seeing those snow piles for quite some time…
      Love you, me

Yikes !! I don’t mind snow but the ice can be do dangerous. I certainly hope the weight of that ice does not break any of your trees. The pics of the birds is beautiful. They are so colorful. I am happy that you put out seeds for them and their friends !!
We expect bad weather to come in the early afternoon. The weather reporters on are on high alert with constant warnings of “wintery mix”. Yesterday the grocery store was packed with people clearing out the shelves and loaded their carts. It is always good to take precautions and be prepared for the worst possible weather as the DFW area shuts down with a fraction of snow or ice.
While many went to the grocery store to load up I went to the fabric store to pick up extra thread and machine needles …………… just in case !!!! Priorities !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Hi Jeannie,
We’ve already had some branches about 8-10 inches across break off of the big pine trees, but fortunately no big trees have fallen. That ice can be a real mess, can’t it?

I had to laugh at your “priorities!” We think alike…only I couldn’t get out…but I wanted to!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. As I’m write this my husband is trudging through the snow to fill our bird feeder. They seem very hungry this morning. Hope that doesn’t mean a snowstorm is coming. It is really, really cold here too. For tomorrow morning we have another wind chill advisory. Hope all of your trees are okay.
Your sister’s chalkboard is so cute. Looks like something you’d find on Pinterest.
Have a warm and cozy Sunday, Jeanne. 🙂

    1. HI Cindy,
Yes, my sister is quite the artist! REALLY, I mean that… she is a “decorator extraordinaire!” Whether it’s her house she’s decorating or some picture she’s painting or just drawing, she’s the real deal and the whole package! Extremely talented!
I’m in my sweat pants now after visiting with my mom this afternoon for a few hours. I’m going to make us some hamburgers for dinner and try to catch up on some sewing!
Thanks Cindy, (I’m working on your “questions…”)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Jeanne – love the photos of the birds – not the ice. I hate ice storms. So please be safe. We were suppose to have freezing rain last night but thank heaven we did not get it. More snow – of course. I live in the woods of Western New York – we have had enough snow this winter!! Grr!! I just stay in the house and Sew. Stay safe and warm. Anita

    1. Hi Anita,
Yes, weren’t the Cardinals pretty? I just love it when they all flock to the feeder. My hubby saw 10 there the other day!
We’ve still got ice and it’s supposed to be super cold all week, so I’m going to sew too!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hearing all the weather stories makes me homesick, however, I am glad we aren’t experiencing it. It’s a low 50 degrees today and it actually rained -but they needed it with the drought out here. When I saw your beautiful photo of the cardinals, I text my son back home to make sure the feeders were being filled for our wildlife.

    The green dress is gorgeous!!

    1. Thank you Paula,
How sweet of you to check on your little birdies to make sure they were okay!
Thanks for the compliment on Rebecca’s dress.
Enjoy your warm weather…it’s supposed to be another week of cold for us!
      Blessings, Jeanne
