Baby it’s COLD outside…

It’s been cold around here…really cold! When I woke up this morning, the wind chill factor was 3 degrees. I thought that was terribly cold…till I heard on the news that some place in Minnesota or Michigan was 41 degrees below zero. I guess I only “thought” we were cold!!
It generally has to be very cold before you see me wearing a coat. I am very warm natured and don’t like the bulk of coats so I put off wearing them as long as I can.

I haven’t made a coat for my dolls for quite a while, in fact, I checked, and the last one I made was in 2016, for Julie, when I sold her to Marilyn! :o)

I do have some cute pictures of coats from the archives and I hope these will warm you up.

This was my very first fleece coat, on Rebecca’s doll, back in 2000!

I found this lone picture of Molly in one of my other “first” coats when I began selling them on Ebay.

Here’s tiny little 7 1/2″ Riley in a pretty white furry jacket…

Nellie always looked sweet in whatever she modeled… I loved her in this burgundy corduroy coat.

Millie was a 10″ Ball Jointed doll, made by Kaye Wiggs. I only had her for about a year and a half… She was too skinny to suit me, but she did look her prettiest in this set…

Here is Lanie in a fun leopard fleece coat.

Here’s Julie in that fur coat I was telling you about…

So are you warmer now? If not… come back Saturday for the rest of my doll coats. My brother is bringing my mom back today and Saturday is her 83rd birthday. I need to spend time making her day special, so I decided to split my coats up into two posts.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What fun!! I found it hard to pick a favorite, but you know, even though I’m not a big fan of the Kaye Wiggs dolls, I think I like Millie’s hooded jacket the best! It looks very stylish, with the trim around the hood and those wonderful pompoms! I also love Julie’s fur coat–it’s simply elegant!

Are Lanie’s leopard fleece coat and Molly’s leopar fleece coat of the same fabric? I know they’re different coats, but I was kind of wondering. The fabric in both has kind of the same “look”.

I one time bought an old wool skirt (in good condition–checked it out before I bought it) from the thrift store, took it apart, hand washed the pieces, and made a coat and hat for my friend’s Molly out of it, adding some brown velveteen for the trim. I fully lined it, too. She loved it! I have enough wool left to make another one, but haven’t gotten around to it yet–and of course my Molly already has several jackets and coats!

Happy birthday to your mom, Jeanne, and happy New Year to you!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Thanks so much for liking Millie’s little red coat. I liked that set very much and thought it really did look like a sweet little girls coat!

The leopard fleeces were two different prints. I can’t tell you how many doll coats I made from the fleece used for Molly’s coat. I think I bought 4 yards of it and made gobs and gobs of them for Farmers Market.

I did the same thing…bought wool coats at my thrift shop and turned them into pretty coats for the dolls…again for selling at my Farmers Market. Boy, how I wish I had taken some pictures of them.
Thanks for the birthday wishes for my mom.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Boundless creativity! Riley and Millie are wearing jackets that could sell out in a heartbeat for real little girls, and Nellie looks so sophisticated in her corduroy coat. The different kinds of fun fur seem to fit each doll’s personality. So glad the pictures are found and easy to access.

Happy birthday to your mom. I know she’ll have a very special party. You’re just as creative in that department.

    1. Hi Susette,
Well, accoring to you and Charlotte, maybe I need to make another little hooded coat set for the smaller dolls. Thanks for your sweet compliments.
My brother just left…momma is back and safe in her apartment and she had a bunch of Christmas and birthday cards in the little box outside her door. It was wonderful of everyone to remember her. I wasn’t able to plan her a party today, so it might just be a little get together on Sunday afternoon…
      Thank you, Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I need to write quickly, since I am on grandma duty today, but you know, Jeanne, that evasive blue coat you made for Molly was how I “found” you on Ebay! I don’t see it today, but maybe tomorrow? I was looking for some kind of Molly outfit, and yours stood out, because they were so well shown in the pictures, not to say they weren’t cute as buttons, but I guess the way you marketed your clothes made me really notice them. You are still doing that, and I found a wonderful friend in the process!
Happy Birthday to your Momma! I’m sure it will be a celebration that will be hard to top if you plan it!
Oh, yes, ………………….it’s COLD here too!

    1. Hi Linda,
Yes, keep your eyes open for Molly’s blue coat tomorrow! What a wonderful story of how you “found me” and just imagine if I hadn’t made that coat….Oh that makes me sad to think I might have missed out on your friendship!!
It’s still cold here but not like it was Sunday night. That was just plain brutal.
      Thanks, Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Warm greetings to all, despite the arctic air outside and the prediction of 5+ inches of snow here today! Your doll coats, Jeanne, are an absolute must in this weather. You’ve chosen perfect timing to show them. They are all so dear looking in them but Nellie/her coat, win my heart. Seeing Julie’s furry outer garment reminded me of a green fluffy coat I had at about the time of Julie’s time period. I loved that coat and seeing Julie brought it back to mind.

Bless you as you help your mom and those around her enjoy her 83rd birthday. May you all have a special day together. As the others have noted, with you in charge, it will no doubt be magnificent.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
I’ve been waiting for the weather to get cold enough to show some coats, so with so much of the country under snow, I thought it was definitely time!!! :o)
I love the pattern that Nellie’s coat is made from. It’s so flattering on the dolls bodies.
I’m also glad Julie coat reminded you of one you used to have. I love stirring up good memories.
      Thank you Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Speaking of buttons, the ones on Julie’s coat and hat make that coat even more special. Julie got stuck in the mail in freezing weather on her way here and was very grateful to have that coat. When she got here I added tights, a long blouse and a short skirt and boots, and she was such a Julie Christie look-alike. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prettier AG. She loves being able to wear clothes every day and is currently looking authentic in a Kirsten outfit.
She’s still hoping for a black velvet New Year’s outfit, though she knows that nothing else may ever be as becoming as Victorian Elegance, which she wears with great style. Julie is a very versatile AG.
The Nellie who lives here definitely approves of that burgundy coat and would like to see something similar, maybe in smokey blue, and I love Riley’s snowflake dress.
Wish your mother a happy birthday from all of us. She’ll be glad to be back in her apartment. Good luck with higher temperatures. I’m glad you have your new everyday sweater. Stay warm and well.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I had forgotten about Julie taking the “long way home” when she was coming to live with you. I’m so glad, too, that she had that warm coat on! :o) I’m so happy that you are still enjoying Julie and so glad you think she was so pretty! She really was…
I just saw that black velvet dress the other night and thought of you. Maybe someday… :o)
I need to make more coats, it seems… My girls are all coat deprived and want some coat modeling time! I need to make that happen!
Oh, yes, I have been wearing that new sweater that Cindy sent me. It’s very warm!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Perfect coat weather pretty much nationwide. Very fun seeing them. However, Millie in her jacket, plaid skirt, and matching top is my favorite. It’s the sweetest little outfit, and the jacket could also be worn with leggings for another look. Something like this would be perfect for all dolly sizes. Although, I would love to see a January version for the LD’s. I’m sure it would be a best seller.
Hope your mom has a wonderful birthday and many more to come.
    Keep warm.

    1. Thank you Joy,
As I just told Marilyn, I think I need to make some new coats for the dolls. I do enjoy making them, but seem to forget about them most of the time.. With the country all in a state of frozenness… I need to maybe rethink that! :o)
Glad you like Millie in her outfit. She does look pretty sweet in it, doesn’t she? I haven’t made many coats for my littler girls… I need to… I’ve never made a Little Darling coat that I can recall… I think one for them might be necessary! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What fun! I never knew you made coats too. It makes perfect sense; I just hadn’t thought about it. I think they are all lovely and look cozy but my favorite was Nellie’s burgundy coat. I like the design and your use of adornment on the coat. The hat looks just perfect with the coat too.
Trying to stay warm here in Michigan too. Tomorrow’s low is predicted to be -6.
Hope Mom has a wonderful birthday.
    Have a great day.
    Take care.

    1. HI Charlotte,
If you liked Nellie’s coat today, watch for the one she’ll be modeling tomorrow… it’s a cutie too.
Oh my goodness, it looks cold in Michigan… Stay inside if you can! I sure would! I’d be “sewing up a storm!” :o)
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Dear Jeanne, What lovely coats! I agree with Joy, I like Millie’s ensemble the best.
Do you make people size coats (smile)? I have often thought, I should have a coat made out of blankets to keep me warm.
It’s cold also in PA. I always wonder, at this time of the year, why I don’t live in a warmer place. Oh well. Brrrrr!

    1. HI Dorothy,
I am glad you like looking at the doll coats… I have made a few people coats in the past, but only a few. Since I’m not real fond of wearing them, I guess sewing them wasn’t my cup of tea. :o)
Are you in the area of PA where they got those 65 inches of snow? Even if you got 55, or 45 or 35 or 25 or 15 or 5, it’s too much for me… We might get snow tonight, but it will just be a little bit I’m sure. You are brave to live where it snows like that!
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Dear Jeanne,
I live in south central PA, near the Maryland line. I don’t remember us getting 65 inches of snow. That was probably in the Pittsburgh area where it is mountainous. We do get our share of snow though.

I don’t think it’s brave to be here. Here is where family is (smile). I sure wish family was in Paris or Santa Fe. Those are my two favorite cities. I also wish family was rich (laugh).

  9. Super cold here too! The coats are all just cozy and warm looking but my fave is the red corduroy one. You got it all so smooth and the sleeves set in so nice.
Hope your mom has a fun birthday! Did she get along OK at your brothers? Hope she remembers her nice new apt ?
    Hugs

    1. HI Kathie,
I guess just about everywhere in the US it’s cold… it’s December…it’s supposed to be cold… but this below 0 stuff is a bit unbearable! Thanks for your kind compliments on Nellie’s coat. I love that pattern.
Yes, my mom did fine at my brothers house, but she was worried that they might kick her out of her apartment if she didn’t get back. She’s home now and seems to be okay in her apartment. She had a bunch of cards in her little box by her door… Christmas AND birthday cards.. Everyone is so nice at this place… I bet she’s glad to be home!
      Thanks so much Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
