Autumn begins in a few days… bring on the jackets!

(I did get everyone’s comments from yesterday answered late last night.)

Today was the perfect day around here! It was in the mid 70’s and a breeze was blowing just enough to keep you from being too warm. My sister, her hubby, Hannah and her mom are here for a few days from Pennsylvania and we had such a wonderful time sitting in my mom’s living room with the window open, enjoying the fresh air. Amy made a fantastic spaghetti dinner and dessert and we just had a good time mostly talking non-stop about everything under the sun.

We looked at Cindy Rice’s website (HERE) and my brother in law ooohhhed and aaahhhed over her teeny tiny little fashions, we discussed paint colors, laughed hysterically at Ten Ping’s shoes…when I started calling them “clodhoppers,” worked on some “organizational” things, discussed a few of our favorite blogs, then for our evening entertainment, we got on our phones and watched my Colonial dress for Felicity end on Ebay! It was quite exciting! Thank you dear bidder!

When my hubby and I got in the car to leave, it was almost 10:30 and I didn’t have a clue what I was going to write about for today. As I sat there just a bit chilled in the cool car, from the windows being down, I decided it was “Jacket and Sweater” weather. One of my very favorite things to wear is a three-quarter length sleeve cardigan sweater. I just love them!! I began to think of the many jackets and “faux” sweaters that I have created for my dolls over the years and decided to show you a few of my favorites.

Starting with my littlest girls, here are my 7 1/2″ Kish cuties…

  1. Oh my gosh, Jeanne, that sweater on Kit is just adorable! What kind of fabric is that? Looks like you crocheted it. In fact, they ALL are, and yes, yesterday was GREAT weather! Just in time for mums and pumpkins!
Getting together with family is so nice, and I too, had a family get-together sharing pictures and memories.

I can’t get over how many different variations of a jacket you have made! Each is cuter than the next!! Congrats on selling Felicity’s dress! Wish I had that kind of money to spend on doll clothes!

    1. HI Linda,
I’m late again tonight, but my sister is leaving tomorrow morning, so I should get back to normal very soon.
Thanks for the compliments on Kit’s sweater. The fabric was one that actually did look like it was crocheted… I loved it… and think I still have a little bit of it left.
I do like making little jackets for my dolls and hope I can keep coming up with new designs.
I had so much fun with my family being here…today we went galavanting… know what that is? (just running around basically!)
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. It was 102 degrees yesterday in Garden Grove, California, which broke the record from 1996 of 96 degrees! Stay-indoors time as even the beach was hot, hot, hot! Looking forward to Fall and sweater weather. The doll jackets and sweaters are just darling!

    1. HI Susette,
I guess with weather like that, you certainly don’t need to worry about jackets and sweaters… you probably don’t even want to LOOK at them… but thank you for your nice compliments anyway.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your sweaters are beautiful. Enjoyed seeing the Kish Dolls in the sweaters! You are so talented. I looked at Cindy site also and her sweaters are wonderful also. I can’t believe that you girls can do such fine work. You both are artists in my book! Sylvia

    1. HI Sylvia,
Thanks for your sweet compliments to me AND Cindy… I can’t really call my things “sweaters” especially next to Cindy’s. SHE does sweaters!!!
Thanks so much for your kind words…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The weather here was perfect yesterday here in Ohio as well. Actually, it was quite chilly at about 58 degrees when we left for church but, then it warmed up to the mid 70’s and was gorgeous.
Kit is seemly darling in that outfit. Maybe my daughter’s Kit needs a new outfit as well. My hope is to make Felicity and Samantha a new gown and frock over the winter and now I think Kit deserves one as well.
Cindy’s tiny creations are so cute. I enjoyed seeing her items again.
I saw Felicity’s dress right after it ended on eBay and that “waiting in the wings” bidder was the winner. That it my technique as well, and it usually pays off. I think that dress is the highest I’ve see one of your creations go, so I bet we’ll see Felicity on the cutting table often.:-)

    1. Hi Laura,
I’m glad lots of us are having “perfect” weather for now at least… I love it!
I hope you can find time to get your dolls some new outfits made. They really do deserve something new every once in a while, don’t they?
Absolutely, Cindy’s things are the sweetest ever…
Thanks for being a “watcher” on my things. Felicity’s dress went high, but not my highest by a long shot. I have truly been blessed with my sewing… and my bidders!
You will definitely see Felicity on the cutting table again. I’m glad she has joined my family again…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I love the exciting endings of some of your auctions with several people bidding at once and prices changing so fast Ebay can’t keep up. That was not your highest auction, by quite a bit, I think, but it was a good one and the dress deserved a good price. Bidders don’t often think of all the preparation and experience that goes into making a great outfit. We do, because you let us in on the thinking and the steps that are involved.

The weather in Boulder, Colorado, is perfect and these late summer/early fall markets are splendid. I got leeks and green beans and beets and onions — my tomatoes are not doing well — too much shade, I think, as the neighbors’ trees grow — but the trees are beautiful, the shade is comfortable, and the tomatoes that I do get are wonderful. Very early, and quite late, sweaters are now possible.

From yesterday’s comments, Rumor Godden wrote a lot of books, including two memoirs. There are several doll books. Here’s Impunity Jane, who is small, like Riley and Ten-Ping. http://www.amazon.com/Impunity-Jane-Story-Pocket-Doll/dp/B000GK2B24/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1442849071&sr=8-6&keywords=impunity+jane
and here is Holly and Ivy http://www.amazon.com/Story-Holly-Ivy-Rumer-Godden/dp/0670062197/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1442849270&sr=1-1&keywords=holly+and+ivy in the version with illustrations I like.
She often writes about processes — making a garden in Episode of Sparrows and making an icon in The Kitchen Madonna and the making of a dancer in Thursday’s Children.

    1. Thank you so much Marilyn,
I was flabbergasted at Felicity’s dress price last night. I wasn’t expecting that, but was pleasantly surprised and thrilled too! Thanks again to my dear bidder!
It is nice every so often to be compensated for the work you have in something you’ve made in such a generous way!
I’m glad Boulder, CO is experiencing nice weather too and your Farmer’s Market sounds like it’s doing a booming business as well.
I will have to check out your doll books as soon as I get a chance. They sound fun!
      Thanks so much Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Good morning, Jeanne. Well, I have finally finished packing up three outfits that are shipping today, taking care of the pups, and had a yummy avocado melt for breakfast/lunch and am now just getting to your blog. Thanks so much for the link in your post, you’re so sweet.
You are rubbing off on me, I am almost at the two week mark of daily blogging. I don’t know how long I can keep it up, but I am trying for every day. I keep thinking that I will run out of things to say; hopefully I am not boring anyone.
The weather is very slowly cooling off here. We get a day or two that lets us know fall is coming, then it warms right back up again. I don’t think it’s cool enough during the day for jackets yet, but that is okay with me; that weather will be here soon enough.
Loved seeing your jacket ensembles, so cute!

    1. HI Cindy,
I have noticed your blogs each day… I have you set on my phone to ding when you list a new outfit and my sister found that out. So each day when it would ding, my sister Cindy, would wait to see if it was sold by the time I got it looked at. Most of the time it was. Congrats!!!
Keep up the good work…and absolutely you are NOT boring anyone!
My sister and her crew left this morning, so I should get back to normal soon… I mean back on schedule…
I’m enjoying the cooler weather too, but not so crazy about what comes next. I’m just trying to relish each day that we have this gorgeous weather.
      Thanks for your comments, Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. #1 outfit for me is Nyssa’s red dresss with the animal print jacket! Love it. Although I do like Kit’s dress too.
It was 99 here in northern CA yesterday. High fire danger too. No jackets needed here yet. Good thing, it cools off at night.
Would love to see a how-to on your lovely photos. Lighting? lens? etc.

    1. HI Joy,
Thank you for the compliments on Kit and Nyssa’s dress sets! They were fun to make…
Boy, those of you in CA are much hotter than so many of my other readers… we are all reveling in the cooler weather and you guys are sweltering!

I have to laugh at you Joy… me? You’re wanting to know MY tips on how to take pictures… it’s simple… I have a relatively cheap 7.2 megapixils Casio camera. I’m talking $91.00 cheap. I have a florescent light up above my cutting table that I take my pictures on. I have 2 OTT lights that I set on either side of my dolls. There is a grey piece of suede cloth fabric as a backdrop. I generally take between 50 and 75 pictures and then narrow it down to about 15 or 20 of the best shots to use in my listings. I’ve never had a photography lesson in my life and I probably do a zillion things wrong, but I like to get it just right and sometimes take all the shots over again, because they don’t meet my expectations…
      That’s it in a nutshell, Joy…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Well, your pics are great! I guess I need something other than the dining room table and maybe some side lighting like the OTT lights. I use the close up lens but sometimes things that I want in focus at the edge are slightly blurred. Your Casio seems to do the job quite well.

  8. I love jackets too. Just finished one for the Fall Swap and it is so cute..
the basket weave fabric in that blue/lavender one is so crisp and pretty.
You are getting the shoe to look good…if you are using the ultrasuede that ankle strap can be a lot narrower…it’s so strong it won’t let the button or bead pull through…I know fabric and some other vinyls will tear but not the U.S. 🙂
Congratulations on the Felicity dress…it was a real winner!
    Have a good week!

    1. HI Kathie,
Oh, someone is going to be thrilled when they get your jacket in the Swap! You’ll have to send me a picture of it!
I was talking to my sister and brother in law about Ten Ping’s shoe and they made a few suggestions…so I’m going to keep working on it. I know I can make the Ultrasuede narrower in the strap, and I think that will work better.
Thanks for the congrats on Felicity’s dress. I was truly blessed on that one!!
      Thanks so much, Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. These are all so cute! I agree with a previous commenter that the animal print on Nyssa is a definite favorite, although they are all great. I’m glad to hear you got to spend time today with your family. I had grandkids all weekend, and while it was fun, I’m still not caught up on my rest!

    1. HI Carolyn,
I’m glad you liked Nyssa’s faux animal print jacket too. She did look pretty cute in that one when I made it.
I had a wonderful time with my family the last few days! Tomorrow it’s back to reality and sewing again…
      Blessings, Jeanne
