Are you getting Maryellen, the new 50’s doll from American Girl?

The newest American Girl BeForever doll won’t be released until August 27th, but there have been confirmed reports from American Girl letting everyone know those pictures leaked back in the Fall are truly what she will look like. There has been some speculation that she still might look differently, but no one knows for sure. There is a copyright regulation against showing the leaked prototypes, so I won’t be showing them, but they are easily seen if you Google “Maryellen American Girl.”

This is the book cover that was confirmed by American Girl. This is supposedly what Maryellen Larkin will look like. No one knows her eye color yet or just how her red hair will be styled, but it’s assumed she’ll have bangs.

Here is a closeup of the book picture. The dress shown is apparently her new Meet dress.

There are some who think she might live in either Florida, California, or Hawaii. People have scrutinized the book cover and those tropical trees are clues for these locations. There is also some thinking that her parents might own a diner and that she’ll be flying possibly too and from Hawaii. Right now it’s pretty much anyone’s guessing game.

I don’t know if American Girl will release more clues as Maryellen’s release date gets closer or not. I was pretty excited about a 1950s’ doll as I was born in 1956, but I’m on the fence about her. Her bangs will really limit her for other time periods and I need dolls that can do “double duty” when modeling.

What are your thoughts about Maryellen and will you be adding her to your collection?

REMINDER: Ten Ping’s red and black “Razzle Dazzle” outfit ends this evening on Ebay, so don’t forget to check it out… (HERE)

See you tomorrow,

  1. Jeanne, as you know, I do collect AG dolls, but I think I have reached my limit with 8! However, I probably will get some things from Maryellen’s collection for my 40’s girls. I remember the 50’s well, since I was about 12 in 1954 and had 3 younger sisters (no boys), so clothes were always in the forefront of our minds!!

I do like the dress on the front of the book, and is something we girls would wear in the 50’s. I’m thinking that is in Florida, as people were starting to really go on vacations and here in the Midwest, Florida was popular. My grandparents went there regularly. I remember having shoes like that too! Let’s hope she gets a full poufy crinoline, and a poodle skirt too! I had all those, which is scary to think I am now a “historical” person!!!

    1. Hi Linda,
Awww…come on…8 dolls can’t be your limit! Surely you have room for a few more???
It will be interesting to see what things they pair up with Maryellen. I would think they could come up with some great finds!

I’m going to guess it’s Florida too! I just think the picture looks like a Florida location to me. I guess we’ll see…
You’re not “historical” so don’t think that way! Dolls keep you young at heart and young in spirit!

    2. Maryellen Ulrich

Of course I am getting her. I am a kid of the fiftys, have strawberry blonde hair., and my name is Maryellen!! Hoping shears greeneyes!

      1. Hello Maryellen,
Well, I guess you better get her with all that in common with her! I hope you have fun with her. I’m sure you will.
        Thanks for answering…
        Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I am looking forward to her. I love the 50’s style. It’s just so feminine. I was born in 1975, so Julie was more my time, and she was my first AG back in 2008 when I first came across AG, but I can’t wait until Maryellen comes out. 🙂

    1. HI Christine, Good for you, knowing that you are for sure going to get her! You’ll enjoy her very much I bet! Now you just have to wait for June and July and most of August to get over with! It’s going to be a long summer unless they release some more pictures and information.

I am absolutely on board with Maryellen Larkin. I was born in 1951 so this little girl’s tale will tell the story of my time in history. That is exciting to me. I just love her dress as I remember that style was so popular. I am thinking that if she has red hair she likely has blue/green eyes. The last name of Larkin tells me she is of Irish descent. I knew so many girls that had that same look including my younger sister, Polly.
After I heard about her arrival I made a plan to curb my spending so I will have the funds at the ready when she appears in the store. This is going to be really fun!!
By the picture on her book I think she lives in post-war Hawaii. The yard shows plants in a large size which is typical of Hawaii.
And another thought; if Maryellen is growing up in the 1950’s she would have to have been born in the late 1940’s. She is a baby-boomer!!!

    1. HI Jeannie,
Congrats on knowing Maryellen will be coming to your house. I bet you’re already making lots of plans for her arrival. Good for your saving your pennies and dollars to be able to get her without having to find the money later.
I’m still not sure…but I always have to see the dolls to decide…
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Hi Jeanne,
Thanks for sharing the picture of the Maryellen book. I hadn’t seen it before.
I was born in the 50’s so this era AMG chose is exciting. I am looking forward to seeing this doll, more for her accessories and your clothes though. If the Maryellen doll isn’t that great, I’ve got several dolls designated to that 50’s era.
Maryellen’s house is interesting in the background- not sure if that promotes or makes a difference in the area where she lives.
In my doll room I framed several Betsy McCall paper doll pages from the McCall magazines- pretty much from the late 50’s. Those dresses and outfits remind me of Maryellen’s dress and style.
Thank you for sharing info on Maryellen!! I enjoyed reading the other replies concerning her. Also it is fun to hear about others who collect and love some of the AMG dolls.
    Blessings!

    1. HI Paula,
It seems there are a lot of us born the 50’s who might enjoy this new Maryellen doll coming out in a few months. I’m with you, if she doesn’t steal my heart from the first glance, I have others that I can use as well. I’ll have to wait and see her to decide.
I’ve got some older Doll magazines that I need to look through and mark some of the dresses from the 50’s for ideas. It would be nice to have some dresses all ready set aside for when Maryellen makes her debut!
      Thanks Paula,
It’s always fun to hear what you think…
      Blessings, Jeanne

I will definitely be thinking seriously about Maryellen; I was born in 1946, so I was 9 years old (the age of AG dolls) in 1955! I found this website: https://soratothamax.wordpress.com/2015/01/04/american-girl-beforever-2015-2016/ with photos of what I imagine are prototypes; one shows more reddish hair with bangs, the other has hair more blonde and with no bangs. I’d like to see an AG doll (ANY AG doll) with truly RED hair!!

Anyway, years ago, I called the company and suggested a 1950s doll, because that era had such fun clothes to wear, but *I* suggested they do a girl born in Korea and adopted into an American family (they already had a face mold they could use for a Korean or Eurasian girl by then). It would have covered so many interesting things: an adoption story, a mixed-race family story, and, of course, the great clothes from that era!

As to where she’s from, I’m guessing Florida, as they’ve already done girls from Hawaii (why they didn’t make Her a Hawaiian or Japanese girl, I don’t know….) and, I’m pretty sure, California. I know for sure about the AG character from Hawaii, as my college girlfriend Jo bought that one when her granddaughter was only 1, and saved it for her. Jo is of Japanese extraction but born and raised in Hawaii; her grandchildren are part Japanese.

    1. HI Charlotte,
I’m seriously considering Maryellen too. But you most definitely should really consider getting her. I bet you’ll know lots of the stuff they talk about with her. I was born in 1956, but know the 50’s pretty well myself. I’m going to look at the link you posted. It may be the one that is circulating around the internet, but it might be new, so I’ll check it out.

Your idea of the Koren girl sounds adorable…and I like the story line.

Well, it looks like we’re on the same page as to Florida being her home. I guess we’ll see pretty soon. Julie if from California…so that’s taken…
I bet your friends daughter is loving her Kanani doll now!

One more thing, you mentioned in the last post about my hubby being a keeper because he remembered the blouse I was wearing on our first date…. well, just wanted to make sure and tell you, HE IS most definitely a keeper and I think I hit the jackpot with him!!
Thanks so much for your comments Charlotte,
      blessings, Jeanne
