Anyone for a haircut? Restyling a doll wig…

Did you ever buy a wig and then when you got it, it just wasn’t what you had in mind? I have several times… and not to be out the money I spent, I decided to give cutting and restyling it a try. I’ve been cutting my hubby’s hair for 33 years…so I just naturally assumed, “this thing’s tiny… how hard can it be?” That being said, I wanted to share my experience with my first wig “restyling.”

I bought a blonde Monique “Julia” wig in a size 7/8 and actually had something in mind when I got this one. I thought the banana curls would lend themselves well to a little layered look I had seen on an Effner doll. My “copycat” skills weren’t perfect, but I love the wig now and I think Janie looks adorable when she wears it.

Here is Janie with the wig on the way it was… not exactly to my liking… so I combed it out a bit to see how the curls reacted…

Then I started snipping…

I layered it just a little bit but it shrunk up a little more than I expected. I probably would have liked it a teeny bit longer, but once
it’s cut… it’s gone! Here are a couple of pictures of Janie with her new doo!

I pulled it over on the top and put a clip in it and fluffed out the sides a bit more and now it’s one of my favorite looks on Janie.

So… what do you think?
See you tomorrow,

    1. Thank you SO much Sharon,
I’m not much into banana curls, so the change was a much welcomed one for my girls.
I think it makes Janie look like a “real” sweet little girl!
Thanks so much for reading my blog all the way over there in Spain!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Holy cow, Jeanne. This is gutsy and sure paid off with your magical fingers. But since I was the recipient of a few unsolicited wigs due to a snafu on an order, I might try to summon the courage to experiment….I will let you know.
Had fun reading these blogs. Well done, my friend. So I guess I need to learn how to tap in every day. LOVED seeing your little gals and the OF’s…some of which are hanging in my closet or gracing some lucky little gal. Hats off to you, and Happy Birthday on Friday!! Hugs to you, my friend!

    1. Hi Sally,
Cutting the doll wigs is pretty easy… just go easy on the snipping if you have one that springs up… or you’ll end up with a little shortie like Janie’s.
It was funny as I was putting together my presentation, I was thinking of who won each of the dresses and wondered what everyone would think when they saw their
doll dress being featured. Thanks Sally, hope you are enjoying the blog… I’ve got to get it figured out how to do the blog and still sew… it’s kind of hit and
miss on my sewing as of late.
      bye and Blessings, Jeanne
