An update on my foot and what was in my box…

Well, today was my first day of playing invalid…and I have a new respect for anyone in a wheelchair. I got my computer chair and discovered I could move around the house with somewhat more ease than using George’s walker from when he had his his knees replaced. In case you missed it, you can see what happened to my foot HERE.

Thank you VERY MUCH for all the prayers and well wishes you sent my way yesterday! Since I was pretty much confined to the couch, I got all your comments answered and it was so encouraging to hear from everyone. I truly, truly appreciated all your kind words and thoughts and and even an e-card from someone!

The doctor did call late in the afternoon and confirmed that the x-ray showed no broken foot or fractured bones, just a nasty sprain… I can’t imagine how much more it would have to hurt for it to have been broken. I still can’t put any weight on it and there’s a nice bluish bruise on the side and top of my foot. I can’t wait for the other colors to come… the purple, the green, and then the lovely mustard yellow…my personal favorite! I got bored on the couch and took this crummy picture of my foot with my ipad…

FullSizeRender (18)

I managed to get 2 watermelons cut up by sitting in the computer chair, but the countertops were so high, my arms about broke off. The watermelon was my BIG accomplishment for the day…unless I count the nap I took this afternoon…me and Reuben slept for a few hours and it did feel good!

My hubby brought home dinner tonight… a frozen lasagna that he mis-read the cooking time… He thought it took 55 minutes, but it actually took 1 hour AND 55 minutes if it was frozen. He did bring home dessert too… Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream…so we had dessert first on the couch! :o)

So I’ve decided I’m going to keep this post about dolls, and spill the beans about what was in my box yesterday…I wasn’t really shopping for “this” so I guess you could say it was an impulse buy…

See if you can guess who it is…

CIMG3846

Think you know??? Well, do you want to know why I got her for $37.80?

Reason number ONE…

CIMG3856

Besides the tear, there is also a stain on her leg…

Reason number TWO…

CIMG3859

SURPRISE!!! Isn’t that hideous? This lady’s little girl decided to paint her Kit dolls lips with acrylic paint…

CIMG3847

CIMG3864

CIMG3862

She has beautiful hair, perfectly set eyes, long strings in the back, she’s Pleasant Company, her legs and arms are tight, she doesn’t have any odors, or ink marks.

What she did have were those bright pink lips, some sticky and shiny marks on her forehead and sides of her face, also on her arms and legs. I’m not sure what they were but they came off with a Magic Eraser. I’m going to try and do the Oxy trick on her chin and her leg to see if the stain will lighten. I could buy a new body for her, but since I use my dolls for models I’m going to do my best and just patch it. It will never show so I’m not too worried about it. If I ever do decide to sell her, I’ll probably buy her a new body.

As far as her lips go, I had already done a little research about it when I happened to win her. I bought the Winsor and Newton Remover from Hobby Lobby, but actually it came off with a Magic Eraser too… I was working on her lips when I hurt my foot…

CIMG3869

I’m planning to repaint her teeth and lips and see how I do. I’ve watched a few tutorials on how to do it, so I’m hoping to master it.

CIMG3872

Like I said, I wasn’t really looking for a Kit doll, but the lady had her at $50 or make an offer. I made an offer of $37.80 and was almost hoping she wouldn’t take it… (second thoughts) but as my head hit the pillow that night, my phone dinged and I knew it was her accepting my offer…it was, and so now I’m the proud owner of Frankenstein Kit…or “used” to be… she’ll be pretty when I get finished with her…

I could probably sell her eyes separately, her wig, her arms and her other parts and even make a profit, but I’d like to give it a shot and see what I can do for her…

So that was my surprise box yesterday… I was going to wait and show her from start to finish in one post but now I guess you’ll have something to watch for.

Well, my Hydrocodone has kicked in and I’m getting pretty woozy… so I better wheel myself into the bedroom while I’m still able to drive. :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I have heard that a bad sprain is worse, in terms of pain, than a broken bone. It is good that you have a mobility device to use to get around the house. We are used to using such items as the wheel chair, walker and mobility scooter but not the office chair. It would not do well for me to be pushing that around and putting my back out of joint. Your foot is quite swollen and already looks a nasty shade of blue. You will have to compare it to a color chart as it changes to the colors of a rainbow. Please don’t take to hopping around the house and risk the possibility of another fall. I certainly hope you will take this opportunity to rest and catch up on your reading. Relax. A book or two would not hurt you one bit. At this time of year most of our favorite authors are coming out with their new books of the year. Jan Karon, Debbie Macomber and Jennifer Chiavarinni are all out with a new book. Some have Christmas themes too. It will get you in the mood for the holidays.

    1. Hi Jeannie,
I’m hoping that it does heal quickly…as I guess everyone does who has an injury. Just lots of rest and sitting time is in order I guess. Rolling around on the computer chair was fairly good yesterday…at least I could get from one end of the house to the other…

I do love to read so I will take advantage of this time…
Thanks so much for your encouraging words, Jeannie!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Yay Jeanne!!! No broken bones. So happy to hear! Will pray you recover quickly and fully. Now about those shoes you were wearing when you fell….did they contribute to the fall? If so, please don’t wear them again! Love the makeover you are doing on the Kit doll. Poor thing needed you to make her beautiful again but it is sweet to see how much she was loved and played with by some little girl. I am sure you will find things to do to pass the time. I hope it goes by quickly for you.
    God Bless

    1. Hi Marsha,
Yes the shoes contributed to my fall. I had just bought some new socks and they were sort of slippery inside the slides….I guess a little TOO slippery… Guess I won’t try that again!
I’m hoping to make Kit look pretty again….and think I can do it. I was surprised that the magic eraser took the acrylic paint off, but it sure did. I have several paints so I’m hoping to get her lip color just the right shade to match what they used to look like. I had already tried several colors before I fell. Something to do…something to do….
      Thanks Marsha,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I snorted out loud when I saw Kit’s lips! Good thing I didn’t have any coffee in my mouth. Yes, I did fracture my foot with the car seat, and also sprained my ankle when I fell. Like many commenters said, sprains can be worse than fractures. Just take it easy & baby yourself – but don’t get hooked on General Hospital, like I did 🙂

    1. Hi Debi,
I almost did the same thing when I opened up her box….and I KNEW what was coming! They wer pretty bright pink!
Ouchie…you had a double whammy with your injury!
I promise to stay away from the soap operas!!!!!
      Thanks Debi,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Dear Jeanne, I don’t comment often because I get your blog on email and can’t comment from there. Just want to say I am so sorry about your accident, I have heard that sprains are sometimes worse than broken bones. I hope yours heals quickly.
I do ready your blogs every day, even saving them to read when I am away from home.
Keep up the good work, I am glad you have Kit to work on while you are disabled!
    hugs,
    Sissy

    1. Thank you Sissy,
I’m hoping for a quick recovery too!!! I guess Kit came just at the right time for her “makeover” at Jeanne’s spa.
Thank you for reading what I write about Sissy… Glad you are one of my subscribers!
      Blessings, Jeanne

How smart of you to have arranged for a project to arrive just when you needed it. Kit will join the circle of beautiful dolls who are happy they met you. That magic eraser really is magic. I’m sure you’ll be able to patch the torn area quite successfully. A new torso at the AG doll hospital is about $34. It looks like Kit’s clothing is in pretty decent shape — her panties will certainly cover up the patch — or, of course, you can refresh her outfit and sell it, which makes sense, since your dolls are models.

I just went to Wikipedia and looked up sprained ankle. A second degree sprain involves a tear in the ligaments; a third degree sprain involves torn ligaments. At this stage you can permanently stretch a ligament, which would make your ankle more floppy and less stable, so you definitely want to be very careful. Wikipedia speaks of a 3 month recovery time, given that you care for your ankle properly. A break would heal faster than that but you’d need physical therapy afterwards, so I’m guessing that the healing times are similar. There is usually significant improvement in the first two weeks — that’s good news.

Recommended treatment is pretty much what your blog group has suggested — PRICE — Protection, Rest, Icing, Compression, and Elevation. It sounds like a Jan Karon book and a few nice movies would be good to have on hand while you relax between doll repair and sewing sessions. You probably know that packages of frozen corn and frozen peas make good ice packs. And I do recommend the Wikipedia article — it seems quite useful.

Now that I think of it, if you have enough blue snowflake fabric, that’s something Kit would look very nice in, or at least I think so.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Oh yes…I timed Kit to arrive on the very day I needed a new project! How very clever of me, don’t you think? I hadn’t even thought about a pair of undies to cover her “patched area” but they will work perfectly! Thanks for thinking of that!!!
My sprain isn’t actually at my ankle, but on the outside part of my foot. I can now bend my foot up and down, but it hurts like crazy to wiggle it back and forth sideways. When I try to curl my toes down, it pulls the whole side of my foot and hurts. I can set my foot on the floor today but not bear any weight on it. I’m sure in a week it will be much improved…(faith statement!!)
I have gotten lots of good advice from everyone and I promise to be a good patient!
I might have enough blue fabric to make Kit a dress from it…we’ll have to see.
Thanks so much Marilyn….if I get bored, I’ll read up on sprains!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Jeanne,
Well, I am so glad it is only a sprain. At least this way you won’t need a cast.
Poor Kit! I can’t believe what kids do sometimes. My daughter got her PC German Kirsten when she was five and even Kirsten’s hair is in super shape for almost 22 years old, just a little dry which is to be expected for the early dolls
Kit is a cutie. I’m sure you’ll create some sweet 1930’s outfits for her. You even received her compass necklace!! You had Kit once before didn’t you? I guess you never buy any of the accessory sets for the dolls but Kit’s first release school set is precious, the crayons are real wax and the pencils write. My daughter and I are as into the little PC sets as the dolls. My daughter got Kit when she debuted in 2000. She was so adorable with short hair and first doll with freckles.
Even though the only truly Pleasant Company dolls are Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, Molly and first release Josefina (1997), it is nice to have a later doll that was manufactured with the old mold.
My daughter’s Kit and both of our Nellie’s are PC and, maybe it’s my imagination, but,
I do see the difference between dolls backstamped PC and those stamped American Girl. There are subtle difference in the face shape. My daughter’s Julie is American Girl but, even some Julie’s are stamped PC. Sorry for the doll lesson but, it what comes from loving these dolls from when I first saw a catalog in 1990 and knew they and Playmobil would be a part of my daughter’s childhood.
Relax and eat two chocolates every hour. 🙂 and cuddle with Reuben =^-^=

    1. Hi Laura,
I’m glad it’s only a sprain too…even though some say sprains might be worse…I hope mine isn’t one of those.
I did have a Kit doll before and made quite a few outfits for her. I don’t really know why I purchased her again, but she’s mine now so I’ll make her some things. If I can get her lips the right color I think I will be happy to have her back in my collection.
I like hearing about other people’s dolls…thanks for sharing your story with us.
Eat 2 chocolates every hour, huh? I better just stick to the cuddling with Reuben part!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. So sorry for your accident. I also have heard that a sprain is more painful than a break.
Can’t wait to see your new doll all cleaned and fixed up! Be a good patient and enjoy your rest!
    Sylvia

    1. Hi Sylvia,
I did this on Wednesday afternoon, almost 2 days ago and it still hurts like crazy.
Yes, it looks like Kit came just at the right time to get some attention from me. She’ll make a nice addition to her sisters…and of all the AG books I read, I loved Kit’s the most!
      Thanks Sylvia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Just the right time for you to do a rescue. I am sure looking forward to a new Kit after her spa treatments” I love to learn about dolls I know nothing about and your blog over the year is a little tutorial on the AG dolls. Your foot will recover rapidly I am sure. Keep on resting and reading. I just finished a triology on a married Brit moving to a farm in the mountains in Spain. The first book, Driving Over Lemons was a best seller. Great story telling and plenty of laughs. The author is Chris Stewart. I hated to finish the third as no more daily trips to the Alpuharras of Spain.

    1. Hi Jan,
Yes, Kit certainly came to my house at the right time to receive some much needed attention. I sure hope I can do a decent job painting her new lips. Of course, ANYTHING will be better than what she had!
All my readers have certainly given me lots of reading materials…I can stay busy for a long time if I need to…
      Thanks so much, Jan,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Owwww…. oh Jeanne, looking at your foot makes me weak in the knees. It looks like it is so tender sore. Just don’t over do it rolling around the house, and as others have recommended, read some books or watch some good movies. Downton Abbey is good.

Kit will be a perfect distraction for the time being during your recovery and as always, it is so much fun fixing up a doll who really needs it. I have an AMG redhead w/blue eyes. She’s in good shape but her facial skin is a faded color. Her whole face needs a lift. Perhaps we can “work” on them together via email!
Hope you have a restful day- let Remy work his lovin’ self cuddling with you!
    Blessings !!!

    1. Hi Paula,
I bet you know all too well about bruising… Knees in particular, huh? It does smart but when I don’t move, it’s tolerable.
I have always wanted to do a simple fix up on a doll…so maybe this will be the perfect doll to use. She was in such good shape other than those lips of hers…well the tear too, but under some panties, it won’t even be seen…
So we’ll see what I can do for her…
Thanks so much for your thoughts Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. No break, great!
Little Kit can entertain you or watch you do wheelies with your computer chair until your foot is better.
Can’t wait to see your repaint of Kit. I “may” be getting a used Kanani. Know she will need the hair treatment. Have to look back and see what you used.

    1. Hi Joy,
I am glad it’s not broken either. Several ladies said a sprain can be just as bad, but I’m hoping not…
I had just started mixing some colors for Kit’s lips when I hurt my foot, so I will have to start all over with mixing my paints as the colors I had mixed have all dried out. I hope I can get it right.
Oooohhhh, a Kanani doll will be fun to do a makeover on… Just use a gentle shampoo followed by a conditioner. Make sure you rinse it all out really well or it will feel sticky…
I’m sure you’ll make her look beautiful!
      Blessings to you,
      ~ Jeanne

  11. So sorry to hear of your injury, Jeanne! Sometimes we are ‘told’ in most unpleasant ways to ‘slow down’, sigh. I’ll add you to my prayer list until you are fully healed. In the meantime, maybe you could learn to knit. How nice it would be to add a sweater now and then to your cute outfits. Your daughter can pick up an assortment of thin needles and some balls of 10, 20 and 30 weight thread and you can go to youtube to see exactly how it’s done. Practicing knitting is the perfect sitting ‘work’. It also helps to have that skill when you get much older and are more limited physically, too! I know all too well about those limits and sewing with leg or foot injuries is tough. Sure, you can find other ways to use the foot pedal, but the key is to keep that foot up and it’s impossible to get it high enough when your legs have to be under a table. A hospital type rolling table (like they serve meals on) might be the key, where it would put the machine just over your lap. I’m not sure they can be lowered enough to make that work when in a chair, but it might. I got one of these at Office Depot, of all places, that I keep by my bed, and it wasn’t very expensive. I’m sure you’ll find many things to pass the time, but learning a new skill, once the pain subsides, might be the best use of this healing time. My thoughts and prayers are with you for very quick healing!!

    1. Thank you for your kind words Allie,
I appreciate them very much! If anyone needed to slow down a bit, it may have been me, but this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind… but I’ll deal with it. Thank you for your prayers.
I would love to learn how to knit, but I already know how to crochet just a little bit, maybe I can practice on it… I don’t have any knitting needles here, but I do have crochet hooks of all sizes… Lots of ladies have given me names of books to read too… I can always read…
I’m sure I’ll figure out something because I don’t usually go very long without sewing… so I’ll have to come up with something.
I guess I could always just pick out some fabrics for my next dolls in line for Christmas dresses.
This will stretch my brain thinking of new things and new ways to do things…
Thank you so much for all your ideas…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. So glad your foot isn’t broken! I’ll add my few ideas on body parts that hurt. 🙂 As soon as you can take a soaking bath grab your favorite magazine and a bag of Epsom salts and soak that blue foot and ankle while you look thru the magazine. It takes the soreness out. I’ve used the Salon Pas on my back and they are pretty amazing too. Walgreens has their own brand and there are 3 in a pkg ..they are about 5 x 7 inches…you can cut them to any size you like…they give a gentle warming sensation and somehow relieve the pain too.
Kit is my favorite AG..love her hair style. I’d hand stitch her tear closed and permanently sew on some sturdy panties. She’s a fun one…will show off your pastels so well!

    1. Thanks Kathie,
I actually have a package of those Salon Pas things…and a bath sounds wonderful. I might use them on my left side too. I’ve noticed a sore spot that I must have hit or pulled when I fell.
Hand stitching was what I was thinking of doing too. I thought I needed to get a flesh tone color but since it will be hidden by panties, it won’t matter.
I think she’ll be just fine if I can get her lips right. Thanks so much Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Thankful you’re not *broke*… but, be gentle with yourself while you recover. I had not heard of the Winsor and Newton remover – I bid on an AG doll yesterday that has some sort of blemish on her upper thigh. Hopefully, *something* will help, at least, lighten whatever it is…. IF I win her. I have no doubt, your Kit will be a beaut!

    1. Hi Mary,
That makes 2 of us who are thankful I’m not “broke.”
I haven’t opened the Winsor and Newton bottle yet, but I’m anxious to give it a try.
I hope you new Kanani turns out beautiful too… Just use a gentle shampoo followed by a good conditioner and rinse well. She should look wonderful!
      Thanks Mary,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. Hi Jeanne,

I did not have an opportunity to read your blog yesterday, and was so shocked to learn about your sprain when I caught up today! I am so sorry. For someone as busy and active as you usually are, the hardest part of the healing process will probably be the rest, but please do take care of yourself. I’m sure your family and friends will do whatever they can to help you with that. We bloggers send healing thoughts your way!

    Keeping you in my prayers,

    Anne

    1. Thank you Anne,
You got it right.. The hardest part for me is keeping my foot up and staying on the couch…but I’m trying to obey my orders. I did do a little bit of sewing today..you’ll see what tomorrow.
My family has been great…and all my readers have sent such encouraging words to me.
Thank you for your kind words, Anne,
      Blessings to you,
      ~ Jeanne
