American Girl Dolls and their Birthdays…

My mom and I are currently out of town visiting my sister, Deb, helping celebrate her birthday…plus we thought her birthday cake might taste better in person!! It’s always fun to visit family and my sister is very special, so we’ll cram as much fun and visiting in as we possibly can in the next few days. We’ll probably run my mom’s legs off!
Celebrating her birthday got me to thinking about the American Girl Dolls and how they all have been assigned certain dates for their birthdays. I already told you about my niece, Molly, who got a Molly doll because their birthdays just happened to be on April 22nd! I thought maybe you might find your birthday coincides with one of the American Girl dolls birth dates…wouldn’t that be fun?
I also am including their best friends birthdays too!
So I did a little research and came up with some information about their birthdays…

Kaya lives in the Pacific Northwest and she was born in 1755. She wasn’t given a specific date for when she was born, just the year.

Maryellen Larkin is the newest American Girl doll that is expected to be released sometime in August. All the news about her is being kept pretty hush-hush, so I don’t have her birthdate, but we know she is a doll that will be living in the 1950’s.

January
No dolls have been given birthdays in January.

February
Ivy Ling – Lives in San Francisco, California, and born on February 28, 1966. She is the best friend of Julie.

March
Marie Grace Gardner – Lives in New Orleans, Louisina and was born on March 3, 1843
Josefina Montoya – Lives near Santa Fe, New Mexio, and she was born on March 19, 1815

Addy Walker – Lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she was born a slave in 1855 and chose April 9 as her birthday
Felicity Merriman – Lives in Williamsburg, Virgina and she was born on April 21, 1765

July
No dolls have July birthdays either.

August
Ruthie Smithens – Lives in Cincinnati, Ohio and was born on August 22, 1923. She is Kit’s best friend.

September
Emily Bennett – born September 29, 1933…she was one year older than Molly. Emily is not really considered Molly’s best or even closest friend; but she originally appeared in only one of Molly’s Central Series books, Happy Birthday, Molly!, as a temporary house guest seeking refuge from wartime London and was only expected to stay with Molly for a few weeks. She is thus marketed by American Girl as “Molly’s English Friend.” It was theorized that because Molly has two best friends (Linda Rinaldi and Susan Shapiro), a different character was chosen so that neither one could be more prominent than the other. Since Emily is from England, her story offers a different perspective from Molly’s that neither Linda nor Susan could give (especially since most books feature the three as a group).

October
Nellie O’Malley – Lives in New York City, New York and she was born on October 15, 1895. She is Samantha’s best friend.
Caroline Abbot -Lives in Sackets Harbor, New York and was born on October 22, 1802

November
Elizabeth Cole – Lives in Williamsburg, Virginia and was born on November 5, 1765. She is Felicity’s best friend.

December
No dolls have December birthdays either.

Since I was doing a little research, I decided to include the Girl of the Year dolls and when they came out.

2003 – Kailey
2004 -No doll was made
2005 – Marisol

Okay, I’m off to have that piece of cake!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Well, Jeanne, nobody matches up with mine, although Elizabeth shares my birthday month. However, Cecile has the same birthday as my oldest granddaughter, May 28th.

April is a very busy month for me, since I have both Felicity and Molly, plus that is also usually when Easter happens, plus they all have white First Communion dresses that they wear when my church also has First communion—-which is also in April! Both Felicity and Molly have birthday dresses, and Molly has the birthday party accessories, so THAT all has to come out too! So when you have 8 dolls and all that to do, you don’t think about getting more dolls! It’s fun, but takes time to get it all sorted out and put back again.

    1. Hi Linda, boy it does sound like April is a very busy month for you!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Nope, not close by month or year to me, but your sister’s is close to me.

It is always fun to see the doll of the year. At the American Girl store they have all of them lined up together in cases. I would love to have Grace and all of her yummy shops and accessories. Dream on…

Hope you’re having a wonderful visit with your sister.

    1. Hi Cindy, I have yet to make it to an American Girl store but hope to one of theses days. I would love to see all of the dolls on display!
We had a great day shopping today!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Sounds like you are having fun with your mom and sister. Love those tea shops. What a wonderful girl’s day and to be able to stop somewhere for tea.
Have a great day with family!!!

Oh, our baby birds have flown off into the world. It was fun watching them grow and peek out of their nests –
and I share a birthday with Kirsten (I didn’t know that).

    1. Hi Paula, Oh this tea room is so much fun and we really enjoyed ourselves! We all found something on our shopping expedition today.

Well happy belated birthday to you and Kirsten this past June 8th!

It’s wonderful that your “babies” have safely flown the coop!
      Thanks Paula
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Hi Jeanne,
I hope that you are having a wonderful time with your mom and sister.
My daughter’s birthday is in January, so no doll for her. My birthday is May 23rd, so I fall right between Kit and Samantha. That is funny since Samantha was the first PC doll I owned. Closest doll year wise is Julie. My Samantha and Felicity do have their birthday dress and do wear them for their birthday month. When my daughter was young we celebrated her dolls birthday with a special treat.

    1. Hi Laura,
It was fun to see if anyone had a birthday the same day as any of the dolls.

Yes we are probably having too much fun….if there is such a thing.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Well, I came pretty close with Rebecca Rubin, just one day off. I celebrated Molly’s birthday this year by making her a special dress so she could celebrate in style. Working on that project was a lot of fun! She did look pretty cute if I say so myself.

Birthday’s are very special, especially when it is the actually day you are born so it becomes your Birth – day ! We had a new grand daughter born yesterday, July 16th. Mom and dad named her Alexis Helen. She weighed in at 6# 10 oz. and was 19.5″ long. She came a bit early as Mom has a C-section. She also has older brothers, Hunter and Connor who have already proclaimed they will beat up anyone who hurts her! Since those two have already shown to be a tag-team I think it might happen a few times in the future. Lexi’s middle name comes from her two Great Grandmothers. I love it when young couples honor their ancestor’s by giving their children names of those that have gone before us. It is always a joyful day when new babies are born !

    1. Hi Jeannie,
Congratulations on becoming a new grandma yesterday. I know who you’ll be sewing for from now on….
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Well, my birthday is in January, also, so no dolls that month. However, Marie Grace’s birthday was my parents’ wedding anniversary, and Rebecca’s birthday was the same as my dad’s was (although he was born in 1916). Kit’s birthday is the day after Our wedding anniversary.

And….Kirsten’s last name is My maiden name, and I am pure Swedish, too!! (Although I am 3rd generation American-born, but still, pure Swedish.)

    1. Charlotte,
Well, you have a lot of close birthday dates for lots of events…
      Thanks Charlotte
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. That’s really cool. Me, my sister, and my cousin have started celebrating our dolls birthdays. My cousin and I both have Felicity and we knew her birthday was in spring,so we decided on April. Then I read Traitor in Williamsburg and found out her birhtday WAS in April, on the 21st. Thanks for telling the other’s birthdays.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the birthday post! It was a fun one to research and share with everyone.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. You know, I think I will use the date I made up for Emily (May 2) because I want her birthday to be in the spring. But THANKS for posting this

    1. Hi,
You can use whatever date you like for Emily’s birthday and I’m sure it will be okay with her.
      Thanks, Jeanne
