American Girl Molly shows off my first Christmas Dress of the season…

I can’t believe next month is Christmas… and I’m already behind in my sewing. I can only do what I can do, so I’m trying not to get stressed about it. I used to get several Christmas dresses made for each of my dolls but it seems my life is busier than ever so I’ll be doing good to make it through my doll list with one apiece.

Molly is going to start off the holiday season for me in her new red dress. It’s taken from a 1940’s pattern and has all the sweet details of that time in history. If you missed yesterday’s post, where I showed you the dress in the making, you can read about it HERE.

The dress has just enough swing to the skirt to make it really flattering, even on these kind of chunky bodied dolls.

It has a midriff section where I added a couple of loops to run a ribbon braid through. It’s just enough of Christmas, without having poinsettias or holly or Christmas trees all over it. It will work as a Christmas dress, but could just be a pretty dress for anything else too.

A headband made from the same ribbon trim and has a sweet pre-tied bow and fastens underneath the bow with a thin piece of velcro. I fastened it on top so it’s easier to keep it from getting tangled in your dolls hair. Sometimes when fastened at the back of the neck, the velcro inevitably gets caught in your dolls hair. Being on top, it’s much easier to see what you are doing.

A darling little puppy was chosen from the “Dolly Toy Box”… Molly is calling him Harvey.

I am going to offer a necklace, made by my daughter, Rebecca, to go with this dress set if the auction on Ebay goes over $75.00. The winner can let me know if they want a Christmas necklace or just one that would work anytime with the dress…

So there you have it. My first Christmas dress of the season… I guess I better get busy with some more… lots of dolls have their hands raised hoping they are the next to be called on…

Molly’s dress can be found on Ebay. You can go straight to the listing by clicking on the Ebay icon at the right side bar.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I love this Molly dress. It is just perfect for the Christmas season and Molly’s era. The use of the narrow braid at the waist is the perfect set off on the inset. Of course, Harvey is darling!
Your idea of using the Velcro under the bow at the top of the headband is a great one. You are so correct that the hair would get tangled in the back.
Can’t wait to see your Christmas creations for all the other dolls!

    1. Hi Jeannie,
I’m glad you liked the Molly dress. She does too! It may be difficult to get it off her… she doesn’t quite understand the “ways” of sewing and selling around here yet, but she’ll learn.
I haven’t decided who is next on my list, but I need to pick someone soon!
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Molly’s first dress is so very cute. It looks very 1940’s to me, with the bodice gathers and her swingy skirt. Look forward to seeing your next Christmas dress, Jeanne. Get sewing…

    1. Hi Cindy,
Thanks for your compliments on Molly’s dress. I think that pattern is very cute too. I hope to get another doll dress started today…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Regina!
We’ll see how Molly reacts when she finds out she has to give up her dress AND her puppy…
      eep!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jeanne, you did it again! What a darling little dress for Miss Molly! You know, although it is a 1940’s pattern, it actually would work out for a girl of today. It can fit so many different time spans, and yet it looks like something I would have worn when I was in school! Yes, THAT long ago!
Here’s hoping that Molly won’t have too hard of a time giving up her dress and dog, because I certainly can’t blame her!!

    1. Thank you Linda,
I think it is kind of a timeless pattern… or maybe a classic one. I believe it would work for today’s little girls. I would have worn it too… shoot, I’d wear it now, if I could…
P.S. I got your scarf mailed off this afternoon…
      Thank you,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I love it. So cute. Molly isn’t going to like giving it up.
She is very pretty in her new dress, these girls make me smile.
I can’t wait to see your next project.

    1. Thank you Judi,
You’re right, Molly isn’t going to like giving it up, but she’ll soon learn the ropes around here. I haven’t figured out who is next, but I think one of the Effner girls…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Oh, this dress is darling. Love the sweet design and ribbon. The subtle blocking pattern in the red material is very pretty. Molly has done a wonderful job modeling…and her little dog too! (where have I heard that last phrase?) Beautiful work, Jeanne, as always!

    1. Thanks so much Paula,
I’m glad everyone welcomed my new Molly the way they did. She’s going to fit in just fine around here, I can tell already!
      Blessings, Jeanne
