American Girl Julie wants to show you her pink 70’s dress…

I made this dress back last August, but it was too late in the season for a “pink” dress, so I put it away…and tried to sell it as a Valentine dress, but only had a white purse to go with it and I wasn’t too thrilled with it. I wanted to find her a floppy hat to wear but couldn’t find anything that suited me. Then I found this sinamay hat at Hobby Lobby and spray painted it. It was the wrong color of pink… so I had to find another can of spray paint and try again. This time I got it right, I think.

Finally, Julie’s look is all pulled together. I have it listed on Ebay and you can see it HERE.

She looks very pretty in the pink and it certainly shows off her lovely tanned skin.

Rebecca made her a “peace” necklace using some perfectly matched pink glass crystals.

If Julie tips her hat just a bit sideways, she looks nice and grown up. Her hat is quite fancy for a young girl going to summer school, but that’s what we all wanted in school… to look older than we were…

A few days ago, when I first gave you a glimpse of Trixie, Kath wanted to know what she might look like next to Ellowyne. I don’t have a honey skinned Lizette, but here’s one of my Ellowyne’s and Trixie. I think the size is pretty good Kath and I think Lizette might be wonderful as a big sister to Trixie. They both have those big brown eyes…

I borrowed a picture from honeybee*art on eBay so you could see the Lizette I was talking about. I think Trixie and Lizette would be darling together.

Laura thought Trixie might look good next to Josefina. I don’t have any clothes to put on Josefina, but you can see how they look standing next to each other. I think they’re pretty cute together.

  1. What a pretty outfit for Julie! She looks like she’d be outstanding in a crowd. Rebecca’s touch of the peace sign necklace is so appropriate for us who recall those days.

I just read your Trixie Tonner listing. She’s such a “lucky” doll to have found her way to your home. I know you’ll do her justice with your pretty outfits. It continues to be such a pleasure to read your blog each day and of course to view your very pretty creations. Thank you once again.

    Take care.

    1. HI Becky and thank you for your nice comments about Julie’s dress. It’s kind of fun to make something that represented a time I was alive in…

It’s fun having a new doll… I didn’t necessarily need her, but I gave in and so now she’s here… and I think, to stay. She’s really a little cutie.
Thanks for your kind words about my blog posts that I write each day… I enjoy doing it and I hope everyone enjoys reading them…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Jeanne, Thanks so much for posting that pic. Yes they look very good together. I was afraid that she would look funny together with the Ell type dolls, like a big baby with them. I will be looking for a Trixie for my collection. Some I see have so much makeup on them and they don’t look like little girls. I like a much more natural look for my group. I have grands and don’t want them to think that it is normal to wear so much makeup. I love the idea of subtly enhancing beauty not having a total new painted face. Again thanks so much for taking that pic. BTW she looks good with Josie too. Hugs, Kath

    1. HI Kath,
It was kind of fun to put them beside each other and I bet Lizette would make a GREAT big sister to Trixie… I’m with you…if I’m going to have a child like doll, I want her to look like a little girl… not a “pagent” little girl…
I hope you find a Trixie soon… you’ll be glad you did.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. If you ever make sister/friend dresses for Patsy and Trixie, maybe make one for Ellowyne too. Wouldn’t that be a cute little grouping.

    1. HI Joy,
It would be fun to make a sister set using the different sizes… I might just have to do that!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. If you were making sister/friend dressed, could you sell them in different auctions at the same time, with pictures of the other dress at the end of the auctions? Otherwise you’d have seriously limited your pool of buyers. I always like it when someone new gets one of your outfits and you add to your buyer pool. But the sister/friend dress idea is such a nice one.

I’m so happy to see you with two auctions at the same time. I do hope this does the trick for Julie’s pretty pink dress. The hat is charming and appropriate for the times — I especially like it tilted. I see that you have 7 watchers already. Maybe this is the right season for the dress. I wouldn’t be at all surprised.

    1. HI Marilyn,
You and Joy are making me think… hmmm…sister/friend dresses. I may have to give that a try and see what happens. I know some seamstresses make dresses for their various sized dolls using the same fabric, but in just all the different sizes. It’s fun to see those listings…

I hope you’re right about this being the right time for Julie’s dress. If not… hmmm… Julie might be in trouble…
Thanks so much for all your suggestions and thoughts about the dresses…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Finally I am able to write something, because I now can see the pictures! For some reason, my computer was not showing the pictures, so it was kind of hard to visualize when you were talking about!

Oh, Julie’s dress is just adorable, and one that is close to what I made for my daughter in the 70’s! Those were the days, and that necklace is the perfect touch too! And the hat—-I love it! The dress is so timeless, even a modern doll could wear it. Actually, I think the 70’s ARE modern!!! 🙂

I thought the same thing about mother-daughter, sister dresses when I saw the picture of Lizette and Trixie. But yes, kind of hard to sell them to someone who would have both dolls. Sure would be cute though!

    1. HI Linda,
It must be the season for computer troubles. Several have emailed me about flub ups… I’m glad you’re back now though.

I wish Julie’s era was more popular.. I’m so familiar with her styles and like making the 70’s things, but they don’t sell too well…

I liked Marilyn’s idea of doing matching dresses but listing them separately..at least the winner of one might be able to win the second one. Or maybe I could do a thing where I listed one and showed the other. Whatever the first one sold for, I could offer the second dress to the winner for the same price…if they wanted it. If not, I’d just list it. Just a thought.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Your last thought on listing might work. Maybe tomorrow you could ask the group how they think sister/friend dresses might be most effectively listed. Someone might come up with a genius idea.
You are up to 14 watchers, or maybe more by now. I predict that one of them is going to do a BIN. What I’d like to see is for this outfit to go for something in the range of $200, just because it’s finally become the outfit it needed to be.
Maybe we should all send you pictures of our favorite dresses from that era and you could choose one as your next Julie dress.

    1. HI Marilyn,
You are always on the lookout for me and what might work. I do appreciate that very much!
Oh, what a wishful thinker you are… to think this pink dress might go for $200 is a little too much for me to comprehend right now.. I was thinking more along the lines of “hey, if Julie’s things aren’t selling, I’ll be selling Julie.” BAD MOMMY… BAD MOMMY!
I really like her and since I grew up in the 70’s in my high school years. I’d hate to see her get the boot.
I’ll think about your ideas and see what I come up with…
Thanks for being a great cheerleader for me…
      Blessings, Jeanne
