American Girl Josefina in some favorite outfits…

I remember when I opened the box with my new (used) Josefina in it. She took my breath away and I was in love! Her hair was long and shiny and gorgeous and her suntanned skin was just beautiful. I made and sold lots of outfits for her but my favorite thing to make her was a peasant top and a skirt to go with it. I would usually ask Rebecca to make me a pretty necklace and then I’d coordinate a fun sash for her waist. Then I had to add some kind of hair accessory to complete the whole look. She was a wonderful model, but I never could get the lighting right with her. She always looked a bit like she had calamine lotion on her face…a bit pasty. A few of my pictures did turn out nice, but I never knew when that was going to happen. I took her outside a few times and those shots seemed to be nice and clear but still, they never captured just how beautiful she was. Eventually I sold her…but I still think of her and miss sewing her sets.

Here are a few of my favorites, even if they aren’t terrifically good photographs…

Oh dear, looking at these sets again makes me want to make her something new…do you think Saige would make a good stand in for Josefina?

See you tomorrow,

  1. I didn’t know you ever had a Josefina, Jeanne! I love all the colorful outfits you have made, and like the way she looks in the blues, greens and purples the best. I, too, have a used Josefina and don’t see many things for her on Ebay or even from AG, although I have all the clothes AG ever made for her. She is supposed to be coming out with more new things sometime this year, so I am waiting to see what AG cooks up.

Saige’s hairdo might work, but her coloring is not what I would consider a Latina doll having!! Of course, Saige lives in new Mexico, so she could probably model what Josefina would be wearing fairly well, although Josefina could wear hot pinks and brighter colors better than Saige, in my opinion. But that’s just me! I’m sure whatever you do will be just perfect!

    1. Hi Linda,
Yes, I had a pretty Josefina and then I sold her. After I saw her in my blog post pictures, I found myself looking back on Ebay at “Josefina dolls!” Oh brother… She was very fun to sew for…almost like Kirsten… you could take several fabrics and incorporate them into her outfit. I had a lot of fun sewing for her.
You are right… Saige wouldn’t work. I didn’t think she would, but the doll who models for Josefina almost has to have dark hair and suntanned skin. What I liked about Josefina was how she could wear the jewel toned colors so well. She was always most beautiful in purples and turquoises…
      Oh well, we’ll see…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I’ve always loved Josefina and her style too. You made her some adorable sets, Jeanne. I love her in the white tops with the bright pink/red skirt and the purple/green print. It was fun seeing the Victorian dresses you made for Samantha yesterday, such pretties.

I can’t wait to see what you make for your new Ten Ping!

    Enjoy the weekend!

    1. Thanks Cindy,
Yes, now I’m rethinking my selling Josefina. I should have just worked until I got the lighting issue resolved. I liked her in the pink and purples too!

Ten Ping is next on my list…but I can’t forget about my other dolls. It’s always so hard when a new doll comes to your house… She moves right up to the top of the list to sew for…
      Thanks so much Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Josefina is one of my favorites–she’s the first new AG doll I ever got–so I enjoyed seeing the Josefina fashio show. I really like the sash you made with the concho in front. I think I’ll make one when I get some free time. The Victorian fashions yesterday were beautiful too. I’ve been working a lot lately so haven’t been able to comment, but I read your posts when I can. I always enjoy seeing what you’ve made or hearing about what you’ve got going!

    1. Thank you Carolyn,
I’m glad you enjoyed Josefina’s fashion show today! I don’t know that I’ve shown very many pictures of her on my blog, so it was fun for me to see them all together too.
Thanks for reading my posts when you can. I appreciate it very much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I think you should sew for Josefina again, her outfits are just beautiful! My favorite is the last dress with the southwest necklace and the flowers in her hair..so pretty!

    1. Thanks Regina,
I’m guessing I could still make her something, but it would just have to be on another doll. The last one was one of my very favorites too! Glad you enjoyed them.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What lovely sets you made for Josefina. It makes me want to get her. These kinds of outfits were always my favorites growing up (child of the 60’s here). I still have a set I cannot stand parting with. I am so glad you shared these this morning. I especially love the way you incorporated “silver” into some of her sets. Kathleen i

    1. HI Kathleen,
I found myself looking at Josefina dolls this morning on Ebay…oh dear…
She was such a pretty doll to sew for. I should have just kept working at the lighting thing…and maybe gotten it figured out.
      Thanks for your sweet comments.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. What beautiful Josephina clothes you made. She is a lovely doll. Love her long braids. Your color combinations are so vivid and colorful as well as the other features with the different outfits. You are just so creative.
It is neat to see your archive pictures, even when it’s not a doll I have acquired yet.
Thanks for sharing. Hugs are always welcomed!

    1. Hi Paula,
Thank you for your kind words about Josefina’s outfits. She could wear the colors so well, especially the aqua’s and pinks and purples.
I like your sentence…”even when it’s not a doll I have acquired YET!” yet?
Thanks for reading each day, Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Really pretty color combinations! I have a Josephina as well…but I bought her just to have a AG to try clothes on for my grand kids..her previous owner decided she need her hair trimmed….then someone tried to even it up…actually it’s pretty cute but a short bob. I’ll have to see what I can do for her with some bright colors!
    Enjoy your weekend!
    Kathie

    1. Hi Kathie,
I bet she does look pretty cute in a short bob cut! I love her facial features. She was a fun doll to sew for. I bet your grand kids enjoyed her too.
      Thanks so much Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Hi Jeanne,
First a question–how do you say your name? Is it one syllable like ” Jean”, or two syllable like “Jean-nie”? My sister is named Jeanne Beth and she doesn’t like to be called “Jean” or “Jeannie.” In my mind, I call you Jeannie.
I have a Josephina doll. I haven’t made any clothes for her, but I would love to. I agree, she is beautiful. I wonder if a little washable makeup on her would help. Also, I understand that the lighting is important. I had an Addie, and traded her for another doll. I have always regretted it–I might need to replace her. I also have Kaya–I need to get her repaired. I will send her back to the company. Kaya is definitely darker than Josephina–I don’t know how she would photograph. I love your Josephina outfits.
    Have a good weekend,
    Diana

    1. HI Diana,
You pronounce my name like Jean-knee… like “I dream of Jeanne with the light brown hair.”
That’s me, only with a few grays mixed in there!

Well, I’m not sure what would have worked, but maybe I just gave up too soon. She’s long been gone and who knows where she ended up. She was a beautiful doll with wonderful hair, but I just never could get her to photograph to suit me. I’ve seen some beautiful Addy dolls but sold mine too when I got my Rebecca. I had less trouble taking pictures of Rebecca in Civil War outfits than I did with my Addy. She had “deer in the headlight eyes” sometimes and it drove me crazy sometimes. But she stayed with me for quite a few years.
Thank you for your kind comments on Josefina’s outfits. I truly enjoyed sewing for her.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I think you need another Josephina doll. My very favorite is the last one with the southwest necklace, that was beautiful. These outfits are all gorgeous but would only go on a Josephina.
I have also been looking at Josephina dolls on eBay, but I just don’t trust the sellers any more.
I have had seven Am. Girls, and only have four now. One is from the AG store, Isebella. She is beautiful. I cleaned the others up and sold them.
You get your Josephina and make those beautiful outfits…
    Judi
