Addy’s Dress up close…for those who like to scrutinize…

I got the comments from yesterday’s post answered late last night. Everyone was full of great ideas about how to organize their doll stuff. If you missed yesterday’s blog post you can hit the BLOG button up at the top left and yesterday’s post will be just underneath this post with all the comments.

I am on my way home from my brother’s house, and wanted to share a little more about the dress that seemed to get the most compliments when I did the posts a few days ago on the straw hats. Addy’s dress in the “jade” shade with the tan trim got more comments than another other dress shown, so I pulled up my pictures of it and thought I’d let you see a little more of it. I always liked it so I guess your comments confirmed it was something special. It sold in October 2008 so it’s been in the archives for quite a few years. Addy was one of my favorite models. I sold her a few years ago as I thought Rebecca could be my stand in Civil War beauty and do double duty with the 1900’s and the 1960’s.

I am still having troubles with my ipad and the pictures being the wrong sizes. Some of them are 1″ pictures, some are about 3″ pictures and occasionally I’ll have one that shows up the full size of the ipad screen…about 6″ or so, the way they all used to be. I was going to have my brother see if he knew what was wrong at Christmas, but he got sick, so I never was able to talk to him. I’m hoping to get some answers this visit.

Would you please let me know if your pictures are wonky and what device you are using…ipad, another tablet, phone, desktop, laptop, etc. Maybe I can get this mystery solved. I don’t like seeing these little bitty pictures on my ipad. I want them ALL BIG! Like they used to be!

If your pictures are small, you can click on them and they will enlarge.

The dress had this pattern to it that made me call it a Celtic Civil War dress. I’m not exactly sure about all that, but that’s what I called it.

My sister sent me some trim from a Civil War shop in Gettysburg, PA (where she lives) and I used it on the bodice. It’s that sweet little brown and tan looped trim and I hand stitched it in place.

Her dress was nice and full but I still made a boned crinoline to wear under it.

Here are a few more shots and one with her straw hat, that you seemed to like best of all…

Don’t forget Josefina’s “Apple Delight” dress set ends this evening on Ebay. Here is a link to that auction… Apple Delight

I will see you tomorrow,

  1. That dress is the most precious outfit I have seen for Addy, Jeanne! It blends so well with her coloring, and does not overwhelm her with fussiness, but shows her sweet character. The tan ruffle at the bottom and the little scarf/tie match perfectly! I love how you don’t skimp on material like a lot of people do, especially in the skirt.

That trim is really special, and to think it came from a Civil War store! All those special touches, the crinoline, the darling hat, the crisp, white collar and cuffs make it a truly a work of art! Addy looks so sweet—the prettiest one I’ve seen yet. Do you still have her?

    1. Forgot to say, Jeanne, the pictures are just fine and I am on a desk top—no problems at all!

    2. Hi Linda, thank you so much for your kind compliments on Addy’s dress. You went overboard with your kind words.
No, I don’t still have that Addy doll but a new one might be coming my way.
      Thank you Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m glad you liked Addy’s dress set.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Hi Jeanne,
I’m so glad you showed very close up pictures of Addy’s gorgeous outfit. She looks like a young lady with her skirts to the floor. So grown up. I agree with Linda about Addy’s sweet character. She just sparkles, especially in the last picture. Your sister is lucky to live in Gettysburg with all the history. We’ve been to Williamsburg, VA for the Colonial experience, but Civil War is our favorite time period. Need to get to Gettysburg one day soon.
Yes, my under the bed boxes work and do make it easy to find things. I like the clothing I have, but what got my daughter and me addicted to PC/AG was those little accessory sets of wood, china, glass etc- almost mini replicas of real items. AG uses so much plastic now which I guess is good in that i don’t want to buy it. 🙂 I like to dress the dolls up and set out a little scene that matches the season.
We have a “toasty’ 6 degrees this morning with a wind chill below zero. uggg! Stay warm.
The pictures are all perfect and I’m on a Mac.

    1. Hi Laura,
Thank you for the compliments on my dear Addy. She was a pretty doll…I probably should have kept her.
We were a cold 9 degrees with a wind chill factor of -15!!!!!
      Too chilly for me!
      Blessings, jeanne

  3. My computer is a desktop and the pictures are perfect — all the same large, clear size, all right side up, and charming. Addy never looked better. I’m sure you are trying to keep your doll collection to a reasonable size, but that was an excellent Addy and you kept her hair looking perfect.
The petticoat is ideal for the dress — it holds the dress out so gracefully and the waist is just below the natural waistline so that it doesn’t add bulk to the waist of the dress.
I would love to see you create a variation of this dress, petticoat, and hat. The hat does go especially well with Addy’s hair.

    1. Thank you Marilyn for all your thoughts on Addy AND her dress. I guess everyone liked her dress enough that I will have to consider making her another one that is similar to it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Tablet here and the pictures are just perfect. I have been to the
Gettysburg shop and it is pretty special as well as many of the Civil War sites. Antitem is very moving with good maps and explanation of what happened at each marked site. Hallowed ground is all around you.

Antietam was the most moving historical place I’ve ever been. I was the only one there that morning except for the personnel and the ghosts. If you are going, try for a time when there won’t be a crowd.

    2. Hi Jan, one time I visited my sister for 13 days and she took me to several Civil War shops! Needless to say, I was practically in heaven!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Addy’s outfit is just beautiful and so is she. Those Civil War outfits you have been showing from your archives are spectacular. Wish I’d known you back then too!
I forget but is that background from Kirsten’s background scenes or Addy’s? I don’t remember if Addy had a background book?
Wish I was home in a way… I could be organizing my doll room. I have other dolls- Barbies, Tonner’s and Madame Alexander. I really want to sort through those and rid myself of some of them…I agree, Jeanne. You have to purge in some cases of reorganization. I NEVER liked a “junk drawer” in my house but we always had one. I kept it very neat and often threw things out. By throwing things out, I mean I recycled them or gave items away.
It sounds like you are having a good time. Good for you!! Blessings!

    1. Hi Paula,
thanks for the compliments on Addy and her dress. The background behind Addy is the one for Addy. It was a fairgrounds/picnic kind of scene.
We will be heading home in a out an hour or so. I have enjoyed my visit very much!
      Thanks Paula,,
      Blessings. Jeanne

  6. The print in Addy’s dress looks like the rococo metalwork on the balconies of the Haussmann buildings in Paris.

Have you ever passed on a piece of fabric and had to go back the next day and buy it? I did today. I also noticed that a fabric I had bought before was all gone in the color combination I used. They still had plenty of the design in five other color combinations. Isn’t it funny how one will sell while the others just sit there? A lot of people have the same taste in colors. When I got home, I found that I do have enough of one fabric I was looking for due to the small amount needed for doll clothes. Hurray!

The interface of the many computer and photo programs we all have may be the problem and be unsolvable. Not to worry. We all enjoy your pictures whether right side up or sideways. They are so well done, I thought you had a very fancy camera and had taken photography classes! Glad you had a nice trip and are home safe before the next storms arrive.

    1. Hi Susette,
Yes, I have passed on fabric and then prayed like crazy that the next day it would be there. Most times it was.
My brother told me it was WordPress, the program used for my blog, so I started least know where to start…
I am on the Amtrak with my mom on the way home…about 2 more hours and we’ll be home.
      Thanks Susette,
      blessings, Jeanne

  7. So many people posting. Jeanne, you are a gem.
Wow, amtrak. Hope it was fun. We are trying to get a north bay SFrancisco track going. But so difficult. No funding
I have always wanted to do the amtrack run over the Sierra. It is a fabulous run over the mountains. Maybe in the future.
Our transportation in the west is not the greatest.
P.S. All your pictures are perfect. On both old computer and old.
