A sneak peek at who’s up next…

I have been working on something and even though it’s not completed yet, you might be able to tell from my “layout” what it’s going to look like. Plus I’m even going to spill the beans and show you the picture I’m copying… So this will be short, but I hope you like the start of it…

I also decided not to drape it on my doll just yet… wanted to keep it more of a “mystery” a little bit longer… :o)

If you click on any picture it will enlarge.

…a little bit closer…

…with some buttons I “may” use…

…and a full layout of all the pieces to this dress…

Now, mine isn’t going to be “exactly” like the one in this picture. The dress has a tiny gathered lace around the collar and at the hem of the dress. I didn’t have any lace like that, but I have SO MUCH other lace, I just decided to use something I had.

This will make a really pretty Easter dress for some wonderful dolly and I’m anxious to see what happens with the rest of it.

See you Monday morning… have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. That’s a NEAT style of dress!… and I *love* that fabric! wow. I have suspicions on *who* might get this… 😉 I’m watching to see if I’m right. 😉

    1. Hi Mary,
I think that vintage pattern picture was “too big of a hint” so you probably aren’t alone in guessing right! I guess you’ll see pretty soon!
      Thanks Mary,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh, I love the fabric!!! It is so pretty! Those are cabbage roses, aren’t they? And the collar is precious. The combination of the fabric and lace are perfect. The style of the dress is so pretty. It reminds me of dresses my mother made me when I was a child. I always had a new Easter dress complete with little white gloves. Good memories.
The weather forecast says it might be a little warmer soon. Hopefully it will melt the snow and get back to spring.
Hope you have a good weekend!
    Take care.

    1. HI Charlotte,
They look like cabbage roses to me… my favorites on fabric! I can’t tell you how many prints I have had that had those same style roses. I don’t think they ever go out of style… well, at least not for little girls dresses! :o)
I’ts 41 here, so not terrible, but the wind is blowing so it’s kind of cool if you are out in it. Hope your snow melts soon!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Oh this one is just dreamy! I was trying to figure out the front, thinking perhaps it was a separate piece but when I scrolled down discovered darts. A very cute idea. The top lining almost looks like a knit, but maybe not. Not sure of the button color. On the upclose photo they seem a bit bright for the beautiful soft roses, but the away photo good. I’d like to see other choices. Maybe pearlish, sage, or softer pink. Not that you have them available.
Stumped on the dolly. Any of the girls would be very pleased.
Very dark and dreary today. Good day to clean house, not!

    1. HI Joy,
Thanks for thinking this one is going to be dreamy… that’s what I like to do… make “dreamy dresses for dolls!” :o)
The lining is a piece of fabric I’ve had forever..it’s got a 4 way stretch, but is super sheer like a chiffon headscarf almost. It doesn’t add any weight or bulk to the dress, but still conceals all the insides.
My hubby asked me if I had to go to town today…I hemmed and hawed just a bit and then said, “probably”… I was thinking of looking for some different buttons. I have ONE that is a great match, but one won’t do me any good.
I have a few house cleaning projects I want to get finished today… there’s no NOT for me today… I have to do these… :o)
      Thanks Joy,
Enjoy your dreary day if you can…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Oh, I love the material print. Love the style too. It looks soft and sweet and the flowers are a beautiful part of the design. Can’t wait to see more!

Magalie Dawson sent me a notice that in a month she will take my order. I am so excited!

    1. HI Paula,
Oh, as thrilled as I am that you like the dress I’m working on, the greatest news is that you got on Magalie’s dolly list. How exciting is that? Have you decided on a doll yet, or are you still making up your mind?
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Great news Paula. I too have one coming but not until maybe December. I’m going to have Magalie do a #3 for me.

  5. My Riya Magalie doll arrived yesterday and is just beautiful! I showed it to Riya on Skype this morning and she said, “It looks like me,” so that’s the best compliment. Magalie sure has the brown eye color and shine perfectly painted. It doesn’t even look like paint. I’m so happy with the doll. Now to get sewing for her. The doll will stay with me until Riya is much older.

Good for Paula being able to order the doll. For Joy, good choice of the #3 doll as she made me smile immediately when I first saw her on Cindy Rice’s website. Thanks again to the ladies who made me aware of Magalie’s doll painting. The clothes are really cute on the doll, too.

Your new dress has a very clever design. Love it as well as the fabric and trim. You are a true artist. Is it for a Little Darling? I really like the pink buttons and will look forward to what you find that’s different or better.

    1. HI Susette,
I’m so happy you love your Little Darling doll. Aren’t they just the sweetest size? It’s so neat that Riya thinks it looks like her…since “someday” she may get the doll. I hope you have her for a good long while though, Susette!
You can’t be around the Little Darlings too long before you want one of your own… I think that’s what happened to Paula… I don’t think she was looking for one at all, until she saw them on my blog posts…
I picked up some new buttons for the dress today and will give them a try… they match the color better, but I’ll have to see…
      Thanks Susette,
      blessings, Jeanne

  6. I think there are three different sculpts now for the Little Darliings, and I think Jeanne meant which sculpt will you choose, Paula. 🙂 My favorite is #1. Congrats, Joy, on your #3!!!

I love this dress, Jeanne. Beautiful fabric and what a great style with the bodice gathers; looks like it’s got a tie belt attached under the front panel. How incredibly cute!! It’s going to be perfect for Easter! I only wish it was in Patsy, Riley or Kish 14 inch size, LOL. I do know you don’t have some of those dolls anymore, but you’ll just have to make this one again. 🙂

    1. HI Ali,
Yes, there are 3 sculpts in the Effner Little Darlings. There is talk of a 4th one in the works too… I’m not sure when it will be revealed though. I like the #1 too!

Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on this dress that has barley gotten made… I’ve still got a long ways to go, but I picked up some new buttons today and hope to work on it some tonight…
I still have Patsy and a Trixie, but my Riley and my Wren Kish is gone… There are hardly any listings any more for them… I looked the other night and was very surprised…

If the dress turns out, I just might make it in a different size… In person it’s really dainty and oh so pretty!
      Thank you Ali,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Well, finally here! I read your blog at my usual early time, but you hadn’t put the last picture on it yet, so I thought I would wait a bit. Little did I know I would wait a good10 hours later! I did have the usual things to do in the morning, then to the grocery store and then work outside. So nice today!

Well, Jeanne, that dress is the bomb! I love the way you have those beautiful roses positioned in the front, and that lace on the collar is so precious! Beautiful fabric too, just perfect for a darling little doll!!! I think those buttons are perfect for the dress, so if you use those, I will be happy to see that. I’m wondering what else will be made for this outfit. Can’t wait to see it finished and who it is for!

    1. Hi Linda,
You definitely sound like you accomplished more than I did today… but I had a good day anyway…
I”m glad you like the dress… you called it “the bomb!” I love that. Now I’m worried that the buttons I picked up might not work. The color I think is better, but they are a little bigger… I may have to sew them on there and see which ones I like better at a distance. I’ve been thinking what I’m going to put with this dress too…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Your lace is much prettier than any gathered lace I’ve seen. This will be a beautiful dress, and I think it’s for Maryellen. It would be darling for a Little Darling though, and with the new Little Darlings in your blog family, there is an increased demand for beautiful dresses like this in that size. It would look pretty on Willa as well. Whoever gets it, you won’t have made a wrong decision.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Glad to see you made it to the blog post today! It IS hard to find pretty gathered lace…unless you spend a fortune per yard for heirloom lace. So you think it’s for Maryellen, do you? Well, we’ll soon see. I picked up some new buttons, but now I’m not sure… I’ll have to try them out and stand back and look at it.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Yes, I am so excited about getting on Magalie’s list. I would really like a doll just like your Lian, Jeanne. She is just so precious. I can’t remember but do Janie and Isabelle have the same face? I like Isabelle but especially her hair style. Where do you get their wigs or do they come on the doll? Thank you for any information. Aside from seeing yours and the comments from your readers, this will be a whole new type of doll for me. I’m thinking of all the adorable adorable clothes you have made for the LD girls and I missed out on them, but I know you will make more.

  10. HI Paula,
Lian is a #2 sculpt and was painted by one of Dianna’s artists, Joyce Mathews, a few years ago. She was originally a limited edition of 10 dolls, but there weren’t 10 takers so her edition is even smaller than 10.
Isabelle and Janie are both the #1 sculpt, with the bigger, rounder eyes. The artist usually asks the buyer what kind of wig they would like on their dolls, long blonde, wavy red wig, brunette straight wig with bangs, etc. Usually they come lightly glued on the doll, but are easily removed. I have never removed Isabelle’s wig, but have been thinking about it lately. It would change her looks completely.
Once you get your Little Darling in mind, and all the particulars given to the artist, they will work on the doll and when it’s time, they generally send you a picture so you can approve everything before it’s sent to you.
You’re going to love the one you pick and wonder what took you so long to get one! They are addicting… I’ll just tell you that now… they always need a sister!
    Blessings, Jeanne
