A small start on Ten Ping’s Christmas dress…

This was one of those days that it seemed like I got very little accomplished, but actually when I look back on my day, it was quite productive.
Normally we try to keep our Sunday’s pretty low key if we can and just rest and relax. But we are taking Rebecca 2 hours north of here tomorrow, to catch a ride with someone else, to go to a graduation. She had some “last minute” alterations for me… (don’t you just love it when that happens?)

Her dress needed to have the belt tacked down so it would stay at her waist…
The loops needed moved down to where her waist was instead of 2″ up on the side of the dress…
Then she had this suitcase she really wanted me to fix…the strap had come off and she asked I could sew it back on? It was a major undertaking and not necessarily a “pretty” job, but nonetheless, she got her suitcase and was thrilled!
She bought this little black suede purse and it had a silver zipper….that got stuck on 2 of the teeth…she needed that fixed…
She also had a ball cap that needed a new patch ironed on and tacked down in a few places…

Then I sold 2 skinny scarves this weekend, so those had to be packed up…

When it got to be around 7:00, my hubby began to wonder if dinner was going to be a “helpie selfie…” He took the hint and made stroganoff himself and even did the dishes when he was done. After dinner it was “time for me” and I turned my thoughts toward Ten Ping.

I had to come up with a tiny little jacket pattern and it took me several… I mean “several” times to get it right.

But after about 4 or 5 patterns and 4 or 5 tries, I was rewarded with this sweet little jacket. It’s lined with tulle so it’s really flexible and so so dainty!

I moved onto the dress and only got the bodice made but have the skirt cut out and ready to attach. I just need to get to bed though, so I’ll work on it “hopefully” when we get back tomorrow…

Just wanted to give you an update on Ten Ping’s Christmas dress…

See you tomorrow,

  1. That jacket is incredibly cute. The black and pink are great together and they are perfect on Ten Ping.
And then — how on earth did you fix the teeth on a purse zipper? And when to we get the picture of the repaired suitcase? That I want to see.
And now — how is your foot holding up? You have a big meal to work on Thursday — you’ll have to be ready for that too.
The last 3 outfits go on Ebay a week from today in order to miss the busy holiday weekend? They are for three different dolls so they won’t compete. That was good planning.

    1. Thanks Marilyn…it really is adorable being so tiny and all.
I took a picture and will show you the suitcase….
The teeth on the purse were too loose and just kept falling over. I stitched between the teeth to hold them upright. It worked better than before but wasn’t perfect…she still had to jiggle the zipper pull just a little bit.

Don’t be watching for the outfits to go on EBay today…I have had too many Extracurricular activities lately… but hopefully soon.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I was thinking of a week from today on Ebay — when everyone is back to normal and thinking about Christmas.
That’s an interesting fix for that zipper. I’ll remember it.

  2. Good morning, Jeanne. Sometimes I am amazed at how much can be accomplished in a tiny bit of time at the end of the day. Looks like you had an evening like that. Ten Ping is looking pretty cute already. What a little dear!
Love the “helpie selfie” comment. Ha. We have a lot of those around here.
    Have a great day, Jeanne.

    1. Thank you Cindy,
I was going to make your Sweet Potato Chili yesterday but it never happened! This week…maybe.
Lucy looked adorable in that first picture with those braids…I bet Gina loves having a new sister.
      Thank you, Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Ten Ping looks adorable, and I am sure she is wondering where the rest of the dress is! I’m anxious to see what kind of props you put with Ten Ping.

Good heavens, Jeanne, you certainly do accomplish a LOT when you put your mind to it! I couldn’t figure out why you were making your turkey so early, but now realized it was for church! My days of 21 lb. turkeys are gone! We now settle for a nice turkey breast, no muss or fuss, or trying to wrestle a partially frozen turkey on THE day! That has happened to me more than once!! Little did I know when I first got married on cooking much of anything! We only eat the white meat in our family, so getting a turkey breast makes much more sense for us.

    1. Hi Linda, I am hoping to find some new Christmas props today…I do have some small things that will work for Ten Ping…

I like cooking turkey breasts too…it’s so easy! We are having the “regular” kind of turkey as Sara and her mom and dad are coming over…but ours isn’t as big as the one I cooked for the church…
      Thank you Linda,
      Have a wonderful day,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. A very fruitful day, I’d say. So glad George took care of dinner and dishes. Selfie, helpie is a great term. Husband always did the turkey and a much disliked job for him. My mom disliked any scorch or burn on food and was hesitant of the newcomer in our life. Before we were married, he said he would make a turkey on his barbecue. His house was very close. My mom was in the living room and I opened the kitchen door for him. He brought in a tray with a large mound covered in foil. I lifted the foil and saw a very black bird, broke out laughing and couldn’t stop. The inside was fine with no taste of burn. the most fun dinner to think about.Later we made large dinners for family.

later, in are life, we made large dinners together for family but that one bird always brings a smile.

      1. Hi Jan,
What a fun story you have to remember…it brought a smile to my face. I love memories like that!
        Thank you Jan,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I wondered how you were going to treat the pink furry fabric. Love the idea of lining with tulle. The little plaid test pattern is pretty cute too. I do like the short wig on Ten Ping. I’m looking for a similar style but just a bit longer, and think I’m going wild with a champagne blond color. Haven’t found one yet. Off hand do you know TP’s wig size?
I can remember getting packages in the mail with a note, please mom, I need this hemmed by Tuesday! Then having to finish it and rush it back to the P.O. so it would arrive in time.

    1. Hi Joy,
Thank you for your compliments on Ten Pings set. I am working on it right now.
I bought a size 5/6 for Ten Pings wig.
My hubby found a navy suit for himself at the Goodwill today. I thought it looked very nice so I looked it up and found it was a $275.00 suit!! Woohoo…but I have to let the hem out on the pants. It’s always “alterations” around here!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I spent some time yesterday tracing all of the patterns for the 8″ size from the “Fashions for Small Dolls” book that you had recommended. I am hoping they will be right for Ten Ping. She references three 8″ dolls by different designer, Paulinette, a porcelain doll by Pauline Jacobsen being the one I thought looked most like Ten Ping’s body structure. I am hoping this will work, but I can see from your efforts that I had better make the trials before using the fabric I intend for the piece. She has some good tips about plaids and stripes too using the patterns that eliminates the shoulder seam.

No work yet on the Ten Ping as my six-year-old granddaughter asked for a green dress with a white sash with a dropped waist no less and a flower on it for her Isabelle. When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, she says, “A fashion designer,” but she waited a minute and then added rather sheepishly “. . . and a doctor.” Mommy is a doctor. Grandchildren are such a joy!

Thanks for the tip about making the trial pieces.

    1. Hi Susette,
Yes, I would cut out anything the first time in a scrap fabric…
I hope you have fun sewing and baking with your granddaughter!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Score big time on that jacket…great idea to line it with Tulle. I had never thought of that ..very clever! Her little bodice fits so well. that is going to be a darling outfit!
I think she might smile when it is finished :0)
