A Little Eye Candy from Anne…

HI everyone,
We made it home from the 100 mile yard sale and had a nice safe trip! We didn’t make it the whole 100 miles… we never have… but we probably went 40 miles. It was a long day and I have my fitbit tracker letting me know I walked a lot of steps… 11,335 so far…that’s 4.75 miles, which doesn’t seem like too terribly many, but it was in the car, out of the car, in the car, out of the car, up a hill, through the gravel, to the next house, to the next garage. It was warm but we had a nice breeze most of the day, mixed with a few sprinkles…I am exhausted so I know my hubby is. He didn’t get out of the car as much as Rebecca and I did, but he was quite the trooper! We ended the day with a nice dinner at a great Mexican restaurant and I even have “lunch” for tomorrow! I am too tired to put together a post on the things I found, but I’ll do that soon… right now all I can think of is a shower and my bed…

We saw Joy’s new Dianna Effner, Little Darling, Libby a few days ago. If you missed seeing her, she’s worth checking out HERE.

I also knew Anne had received a Little Darling recently too, but couldn’t find the pictures she sent me. I asked her to resend them and thought I’d share little Miss Isabella Jayne with you today. You’ll be pleased to see Anne’s sweet cutie in some of the prettiest and sweetest dresses! Isabella Jayne was painted by Magalie and I don’t think Anne had to wait too terribly long for her. Anne named her middle name after her best friend, Jayne, whom she has been friends with since 2nd grade!!!

This is the outfit she arrived in when Anne opened her box. It was made by Magalie and isn’t it sweet on Isabella Jayne?

I think this next pink outfit must be a skirt with interchangeable tops…see what you think…

This is one adorable blue and pink smocked dress… so dainty looking! One picture with her teddy and one with her hat!

Two pictures here too, one with a hair bow and one with a hat!

Anne, I hope Isabella Jayne has enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame here today! What a true Little Darling she is! Thanks for letting me share her!

Don’t forget about Addy’s Civil War Dress, “Southern Charm,” listed on Ebay and ending Sunday evening. You can see it HERE.

See you Monday morning,
Blessings, Jeanne

Congratulations, Anne, on your beautiful little girl!! Isabella Jayne is just lovely, and she already has some beautiful clothes! She is definitely a “girly-girl”, isn’t she?! (My favorite is the light blue print dress.)

I have done that with a doll, also–giving her my best friend’s first name as the middle name. It was a baby doll, and I named her Naomi June; June and I have been best friends since we met in first grade, November 1952!!! Yes, that’s almost 65 years. We live 2000 miles apart, but we email every day, and I go back to Michigan whenever I can to see her (and she was out here once, too, but I’m From Michigan, and have relatives there, so try to go back every few years).

Jeanne, I can’t wait to see what wonderful goodies you found at the yard sale!! Hope everyone is all rested up by the time you read this, and that it wasn’t too taxing on George.

    1. Hi Charlotte,

It is so special that you honored your best friend by giving your baby doll her middle name, and even nicer that you have remained close. I, too, have a friend named June. We have been friends since 1984, and our children grew up together. It seems there are many good friends that have names that begin with “J,” including our own Jeanne Marie!

      1. Charlotte Trayer

        Hi Anne,
Speaking of friends with “J” names, there is my dear friend Joyce; I first met her when we were 21 (she was 28 days older than I!) and my dad accepted a call to her church back in 1967. We became immediate friends, and could hardly wait until we were both out of college and could share an apartment, which we did for 4 years, then she was maid of honor at our wedding, and our son’s godmother. She sang at both my parents’ funerals, and sat with me thru three of my husband’s surgeries. Sadly, last month she had a series of strokes and passed away. I think her death was almost as hard on me as my dad’s….

    2. Hi Charlotte,
I do believe Isabelle Jayne is most definitely a girly girl! No “tomboy” would be caught dead in those beautiful dresses!
Well, we all managed to get out of bed, so I guess we fared pretty well from the yard sale trip!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Ah Jeanne, you’re always blessing us despite the fact that you’ve had a long day. Thanks to you and Anne for the enchanting photos of her very pretty doll. Those are very fine dolls.

    Blessings and safety.

    1. Hi Becky,
You’re always blessing “me” by reading each day!
      Thank you so much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Glad you had fun at the 100 mile yard sale. I haven’t been to a yard sale for years. I too am anxious to see what you might have found.

Anne, your Isabella Jayne is really a pretty little girl. I agree with Charlotte that she is a girly-girl in her fluffy dresses and the blue pantaloon outfit.

Anne and Charlotte, I have a best friend named Jan that I’ve known since she and I were in first grade too. (Y E A R S ago). I mention this because I find it interesting that all of our best friends have names starting with “J.”

    1. Hi Paula,

So you have another dear friend with a “J” name! What a blessing! And how nice that we associate our dolls with our BFFs!

    2. Hi Paula,
We like to go on this yard sale because there is usually such a huge variety to choose from. If you see one that looks like it has “your” kind of stuff, you stop…if not, you drive on by…:o)
It is kind of funny….”my” best friend just moved away 3 years ago, and yes…she was another “J”…Jan.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What a wonderful, beautiful doll, Anne! You must be so happy. Did you make the clothes? They are all amazing. The blue and pink dress with the scalloped edging is my favorite too. Such imagination and skill to do all that. I hope it will inspire me to do some smocking. Thanks for sharing your lovely doll with us.

Glad you had fun at the yard sales and looking forward to see your finds, Jeanne.

    1. Hi Susette,

Thank you for your nice compliments on my new Little Darling. The dress with the scallops was purchased from an eBay seller named kalyinny, but I would love to see some of your smocking. Please send some pix to Jeanne that she can share once your inspiration takes fruition!

    2. Thanks Susette,
Do they call them “yard sales” out in CA, or “tag sales” like they do in some places?
      Did you buy a pleater? I can’t remember….
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Yes, Jeanne, they are called yard sales or garage sales in SoCal. I did buy a pleater but I never have used it. Maybe when I get back from vacation, leaving next Friday for 12 days to WV. YAY!!!
Did you make the other three pink dresses, Anne? They are just as beautiful but I’m partial to the scallops because they are hard to get right. I seem to remember you were sewing for the doll even before she arrived. Did I get that right?

  5. Like Becky, I think the word “enchanting” is the right one here. And like Susette, I’d like to know more about those charming, extravagant clothes.
Like everyone, I’m looking forward to what Jeanne found. I do love days with lots to look at and and think about buying.
This is Memorial Day weekend, the weekend of the Creek Festival here, the one weekend we can count on for rain, usually lots and lots of rain. In the last half hour it’s gone from lovely sunshine to definitely cloudy. It’s supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so I’ll buy the flowers this evening and we’ll put them out late tomorrow morning, after the ground dries a little. We have a florist’s basket that we’ve been using for over 55 years, and a couple of years ago I bought another for my parents’ grave. It makes arranging the flowers so easy and they look so nice.

    1. Hi Marilyn,

Thank you for sharing your sweet thoughts about my LD! Bella’s new clothes were purchased from eBay and Etsy sellers. Although I do sew, I don’t think I could make anything as detailed as these. Like the LDs dolls, the clothing comes very dear, also, so I don’t think Bella will have an extensive wardrobe! I am happy with the few I have for now.

    2. Hi Marilyn,
It has gone from a beautiful sunny day to what I’d call plain ole gloomy and gray! Glad we hit the sales yesterday.
I think I’ll take my mom out to the cemetery tomorrow, where my dad is buried. Wow…you’ve been using the same basket for flowers for 55 years? Is it something metal that is attached to to gravestone? My dad’s screws down into his gravestone but can be pulled out and placed upright like a vase…is that what you mean?
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. The baskets are narrow at the bottom but are attached to a flat stand so that they are stable. The top of the basket is fairly wide and the metal looks folded, like a paper fan. There is a huge hoop handle that’s nice for carrying or propping the tallest flowers up. The bouquet ends up being fan shaped. These baskets often show up pictured on quilts or embroidered pillowslips.
The first basket was delivered full of chrysanthemums for my grandfather’s funeral. We used it for 10 years or so, and then my dad thought it needed painting and found a “please return to florist” sticker on the bottom. We didn’t know what florist and figured they’d given it up for lost, and we didn’t remember who sent it, but it has been much appreciated through the years, and I spray paint it ivory every other year when it comes back from the cemetery. I bought a second one after my parents died — I found it on Ebay, and it cost as much for postage as it did for the basket, but when I saw the carefully patched together homemade box, I realized the postage was fair. We use homemade stakes with hooks at the top to secure it to the ground in front of the headstone.
We use supermarket flowers — our supermarkets have become quite good for that — and I use homegrown mint and branches of leaves from my bushes to fill in any empty spaces. The trick is not to decide in advance what you want — you have to take what’s available and see what you can do with them.

  6. Can’t wait to hear about what you found at the big sale.
Anne’s, Isabella Jayne is simply adorable. My Bessie Bell and Samantha are both stomping their feet because they don’t have the lovely dresses like Isabella. Poor things. Their mother has been so busy she hasn’t been able to sew for them. Not that I could ever make anything as detailed as those beauties.
Anne, my girls really love that smocked dress in blue. Did you make it? It is so beautiful.
We’ll walk over to the cemetery today and put out flowers for the family. The cemetery always has a nice ceremony and the Avenue of the Flags on actual Memorial Day which we will also attend.
    Have a nice weekend everyone.

    1. Hi Joy,

Thank you for your nice compliments on Bella. The blue smocked dress is from an eBay seller who sells under “kalyinny.” She makes lovely doll clothes, even if they are a bit extravagant.

Your comments to Jeanne’s blog always make me smile, Joy, and today’s post was no exception. The image you created of your girls stomping their feet had me laughing out loud!
It is said that, “A good laugh is like sunshine in the house.” Thanks for the sunshine!

    2. Hi Joy,
Well, as I think about what I got, it’s not that much, but I was looking for “things I couldn’t live without”….and only got a few…
I think Anne’s dresses are so pretty…Glad we all like them….that surely makes Isabella smile!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What a beautiful doll and doll clothes! That is one spoiled little doll, Anne! Did you make those clothes, other than the one she came in? If so, you did a great job—really a fantastic job! I especially love the one with the smocking and scallops on the skirt. There just is something about smocked dresses that I can’t get enough of, and yet I have yet to get a smocked dress for any of my dolls.
What a beautiful day today, but the storms are coming anyway. We had better get the things done outside today before they hit..

    1. Hi Linda,

Thank you for your kind words about my new doll! Yes, she is spoiled, but I can’t help it, she is my only Little Darling. I love smocking, too, as it reminds me of dresses I wore as a child. The lovely blue smocked dress was handmade by an eBay seller named kalyinny, but I’m sure Jeanne can make one just as darling. I hope your dolls might have one some day, too.
      Stay dry in the storms!

    2. Hi “Linda D,”
Glad to have you in the lineup and I hope everything computer wise is working well for you.
I love smocked dresses too. ..Anne’s little smocked dress is very pretty!
I see the dark clouds rolling in Linda,
      Time for rain, it appears!
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Jeanne, I think I have gotten the change of address finally finished! however, your blog appears under the title “Promotons” along with different ads, and I just didn’t see it at first. Then I had to unsubscribe the old address. Good heavens, I don’t think I will change my email address ever again!!!
Yes, it is pretty dark here and raining now, more to come!

  8. Anne,
Isabella is a prize and looks fantastic in all of her dresses. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I guess we do it automatically. I love the peachy-pink one the bodice fits so well…and that smocked one is perfect on her …with the embroidery…oh my…just adorable

Glad the 100 mile sale was fun…I guess we can wait to see what jumped into your hands…and see how the latest dress is coming along.
    Enjoy the weekend ??

    1. Hi Kathie,
I think that little peachy/coral colored dress is very pretty too….they all are and each color looks wonderful on Isabella!
I haven’t gotten anything done on Elizabeth’s dress, but hope to.
      Thank you, Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I am also looking foward to hearing about your found goodies. It is something to look forward to.
Isabella Jayne is just beautiful and her clothes are as well. I bet you are looking forward to dressing her for the holidays.
I hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day weekend.
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I should have bought more…clearly, I didn’t buy enough at the yard sales….what I ended up with is peanuts compared with how much we saw…
Happy Memorial Day to you, Charlotte.
We are getting doused by thunderstorms right now…so much for any picnics this afternoon…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Oh my, Bella is blushing from all the sweet compliments she has received here today! She is still quite shy, but told me to thank all of you for your kind comments. Bella is my first Little Darling, and I am just thrilled with her. Even though my pictures are poor, I think Magalie did a wonderful job painting her features, and her blue “arrival” outfit is adorable. Yes, she is a very “girly” little girl, and no, I did not make any of these clothes. The blue smocked dress with the scalloped hem is from an eBay seller named kalyinny. The Paris ensemble has many pieces, including “unders,” and was bought to honor my daughter, who has lived abroad and is a complete Francophile.

I hope you enjoyed a nice rest after yesterday’s outing, Jeanne, and that you and George have recuperated from all the driving and walking. It sounds like you had a wonderful day exploring, and we will look forward soon to stories and pictures from your treasure hunt, as well as updates on Elizabeth’s blue beauty creation.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all, and thank you again for all the lovely thoughts about my new girl!

    1. Hi Anne,
Oh, Isabella, or Bella, as you call her, deserved all those compliments as she is such a little sweetheart! You picked a darling of a little doll…I know are very pleased with her.
I think her pictures are quite adorable. She looks like a little model to me and she appears to know how to pose…almost curtsy like!

George and I are fine today…he is actually off working on some post at our church that got broken. I actually hope he’s done by now because it is pouring here!

I wanted to work on Elizabeth’s blue dress today, on rhe lace part, but I need bright sunlight for that and it’s about as gray as can be outside. Maybe I’ll work on some other part of it…
Happy Memorial Day to you, too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Guess who showed up early? My little Libby. I am so stoked! She’s met her siblings and now they all want a new outfit. Wonder when Jeanne will be making another LD dress?
    🙂

    1. Congratulations on your new little girl, Joy! I can only imagine how excited you are, examining Libby and maybe trying some clothes on her, too. I know you will enjoy her, and I’m glad she has received such a warm welcome from her siblings. I, too, think Jeanne’s next creation should be for a Little Darling! ; 0) We’ll wait and see!

    2. Oh Joy, What a wonderful surprise….I bet we all know what you are doing today…
I was hoping my new Little Darling would get her soon and I was going to make a new debut dress for her, but so far…zilch on any news about her… but I’m very happy for you!!!!!!
Pictures are fine with us…if you want to send me a few more!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Hi Jeanne,
I hope you found lots of treasures while you were yard saleing. I just love it when you share your finds with us!
Anne your little Isabella Jayne is just beautiful. All her dresses are lovely but I’m particularly taken with the blue smocked one. I have a thing for blue : ) I just bought a white dress with blue trim for my newest addition , I’ll have to take a photo. It’s not nearly as fancy but I love it just the same. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Hi Ingrid,
I’ve missed you…hope you were just busy!
Well, I found a few treasures but not as many as I has hoped for. I will share them soon.
Yes, that little blue smocked dress is a real beauty. Glad you enjoyed seeing them.
Happy Memorial Day to you too!
      Blessings, Jeanne
