A little belated Christmas Cheer…

One of my dear sweet subscribers bought the light blue set that I called “Snow Princess” for her Patsy doll back in December. However she had some health problems and was hospitalized so she never got to dress her doll in her Christmas outfit. :o( Recently she was able to get her Patsy dressed in it and I got the sweetest thank you note about how thrilled she was. She let me know that Patsy was just as thrilled and loves her little Reuben dog.

Her son recently took some pictures of her doll and she wanted me to see them. I wanted to share her pictures with you all too.

Her daughter recently went to Japan and brought back a few new dolls for her. She said there is nothing like the Patsy or American Girl dolls there but mostly the collector type articulated dolls that are the expensive “anime” dolls. The little crochet beaded Christmas tree also came from Japan and she said Patsy wanted it in the pictures!

She doesn’t know anything about these dolls and wondered if anyone of my readers might know who they are or have any information about them…anyone?

A big thank you too, for the sweet compliments you showered on my sister yesterday. She didn’t know I was going to do a post about her painted furniture, so it was a fun surprise for her. I’m not turning this blog into a furniture showcase, but I just wanted to show you what my sister finished yesterday. While we were all being amazed at how she tranformed her furniture into something new, she did this!
This was just one of those jewelry chests that you see every so often. They are pretty and I think it’s fine, but if she’s going to sell it, she had to make it something “out of the ordinary”…”something you can’t go out and buy at just any store” and she did just that with this one..

Here it is before…

…and after she gave it a white wash coat of paint and then a little gold leaf on the handles…

She said it has a sort of soft driftwood or weathered look…Sorry, but Cindy just sent me a few more pictures and I HAVE to add them to the group… I love this idea…

IMG_2525

She used scraps of wallpaper and papered the sides of the drawers and then used mod-podge to seal the paper with. I love how it looks when the drawers are opened…That clever sister of mine…

We are meeting with the Tax guy today and worked all day yesterday getting our stuff together for him… it’s kind of hairy because I have a business and he has a business and then we have “just us” in the mix…I didn’t have time to get any pictures for you but, just to let you know… a Civil War dress is up next! I think I know what fabric I’m using…so keep watching!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Patsy looks just beautiful, the outfit looks so pretty with her blonde hair. I’m so glad Patsy’s owner is feeling better. This was a fine reward for feeling better. Nice photo.
The jewelry chest is lovely. Cindy really knows what she’s doing. I appreciated the close-up of the drawers.
I’m afraid I can’t think of anything wildly cheerful and creative to say about taxes except that it will be nice to be done with them for another year.
On the other hand, I can think of nice things to say about the idea of another Civil War era dress. Everyone loves those, and the last two had such beautiful things for their hair that you could have filled and Etsy store with similar ones and kept us happy for a month.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Yes, a blonde Patsy is just as sweet as the dark haired ones! I’m glad Patsy has her owner back too. Being sick is no fun.
I like the jewelry chest lighter too. It would be nice to have that much room to spread out the jewelry I have.
I can’t wait to do another Civil War dress! Thank you for your kind words Marilyn,
      Blessings, jeanne

  2. Oh yes, I do remember that dress for Patsy! Such a darling outfit and I’m glad the owner is feeling up to dressing her doll and is doing better. I have no idea about the Japanese dolls you have pictured, but do have a couple of Japanese dolls stored away from long ago. They are not to be played with, very fragile, and I really don’t have anything in my house to display them with, so they stay boxed up.

That jewelry box is VERY close to what I have in my bedroom! Mine is also a cream colored wood, with gold pulls, and is sort of an accent piece, since my furniture is brown wood. I got it like that from JC Penney’s, and it caught my eye since it was so different from any other I had seen.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you do for the next outfit, a Civil War dress for who????

    1. Hi Linda,
I’m so glad to see Patsy in her princess too. Being light blue keeps it from looking too Christmas-y.
When I get home I am going to add one more picture of the jewelry box showing one more really fun thing my sister did to the jewelry chest!
The Civil war dress will be for the AG dolls.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jeanne – This morning when I read your post , it reminded me that I have seen this cat doll so I began to look .. Found it. Also found a photo of the set in a doll shop in Japan. The girl and cat dolls are Odeco-Chan & Nikki (the cat doll) Ten Ten Tamari by the Petworks Co., LTD, doll division. The exact cat doll is listed on Ebay in the same kimono. The other doll I do not know but she reminds me of an Azone Kikipop doll but???? Have a great day.

    1. Hi Anita,
Thanks for being my research assistant today! I appreciate you finding out what you did.
Except for the part about oweing Uncle Sam money, it has been a great day!
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Thanks for the info Anita. The dolls looked very familiar but didn’t know the name. They are very cute.
Patsy is adorable in her new dress. I love the crocheted Japanese Christmas tree. Wish I could find one.
For those who don’t like to paint oak/wood furniture, the “new” oak from the last 20 years or so really speaks to a redo. Love the look of the jewelry chest. I personally, would never paint “old” oak. I am lucky enough to have several pieces from the early 1900’s that have been left original.

    1. Hi Joy, this is Cindy, Jeanne’s sister. I understand that many can’t imagine painting oak or old wood pieces. The jewelry chest looks oak but is a new veneered piece with lots of particle board. I try to work on pieces that are “tired, abused, or not a true antique that could use a facelift. Sometimes a new look can update a piece from looking ” dark” to ” new or a least fresher” I LOVE old pieces too, but they are getting harder and harder to find.

      1. Know your chest was a repo. It turned out great. No problem for me painting anything like it. Looks good. I just don’t like to see the really old fine pieces painted. Just personal taste. Pieces from the 40’s & 50’s with peeling veneer or other issues are perfect for a redo also. I especially like the look of an old dresser redone as a bath vanity. Makes me remember that old 40’s coffee table still in our cabin. Think it’s headed home again. Hmm, maybe gold tone 🙂
Interesting, but I think pickers in the 70’s shipped a lot of the mid west oak to California. Natural old oak was very popular then. It has really dropped in value here, and there is a lot of it around for sale.

      2. HI Cindy,
I think I’ll try the sides of the drawers like you did… I love that idea. I added 3 pictures of it to my post today…
        Love you, Jeanne

    2. HI Joy,
It must have been fun to receive a few new dolls for gifts, even if you didn’t know who they were..they are cute and I’m sure loved!
You’ll have to take a look back at my blog… I added 3 new pictures of the jewelry chest showing what my sister did to the sides of the drawers. I think they are really neat looking now…
I have several things that are oak and will probably stay oak too! Not everything needs to be painted…
      Thanks so much Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Good morning,

I loved the Patsy dress, so beautiful and nice that she gets to finally wear it. Have a wonderful day!

    1. Thank you Robin,
Who says you can’t wear your Christmas dress in April if you want to? Certainly not me! I’m glad Patsy finally got to put it on and she looks very pretty in it with her blonde hair.
      Thanks so much Robin,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Jeanne,

My little Patsy and I were so surprised to see her pictures on your blog today! I have absolutely been blessed with a return to health, and I appreciate the kind comments from readers! As Marilyn says, dressing my dolls is indeed a fine reward for feeling better! I’m so happy to be enjoying the simple pleasures of life again. Though I know she will look forward to being a “Snow Princess” again in a few months, I hope to dress Patsy for spring now! I also appreciate the info on my Japanese doll from Anita (my mom’s name!). I will have to do some more internet research as I am able.

Your sister’s jewelry box is just lovely. It has a charming, “Paris Chic” feeling! I’m sure she will have no trouble at all selling it; it is truly a one-of-a-kind piece now. I admire all the talents I see on your blog!

Thank you again for posting my Patsy. She feels so special! Kindest regards to you and all your wonderful readers!

    Dolly hugs,

    Anne

    1. Hi Anne and thank you for sharing your pictures with me last night. I really enjoyed reading your sweet note to me and decided it was just to precious not to share with everyone. I’m glad I didn’t overstep my bounds by surprising you!
I added a few more pictures from my sister of the jewelry chest to my post today. My sister papered the insides of the sides of the drawers on it and it’s so neat looking.

It was my pleasure to showcase your Patsy and your other dolls. I did get another email from someone and will transfer her information over to the comments in just a minute…
I hope things will only improve for you from here on out…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Great idea to line the drawers. You two are something on the refinishing.

About the cat: If you Search “Lucky Japanese Cat” you’ll come up with a lot of info on the symbol for wealth that is in every Japanese restaurant, business and also in homes. It is a kind of charm for success and lots of times has a coin in its paw. I think the other doll is a geisha, Search also. The Denver Doll Emporium site has lots of posts about different kinds of dolls and a lot of videos connecting to it. Young Japanese girls, and come not so young, like to dress up like the BJD dolls with lots of lace, short, short skirts and big bows in their hair when not in a uniform they have to wear to school. Hello Kitty lives!

    1. HI Susette,
I’m so glad I have some super sleuths who find these things for me when I’m pressed for time. Great search from you…and yes, you are right about the Japanese Cat… I remember when the Hello Kitty phase was at it’s peak…what a wild ride that was. I still have some Hello Kitty from that!
Thanks for giving us some more information to ponder…
      Blessings, Jeanne
