A green dress for Molly & lace for your dollies!

I’ve sewn on Molly’s dress every second I could squeeze in and I’m happy to announce I have her green jumper and blouse finished…but I’m still not totally finished with the set. I’m thinking she needs some new socks, some kind of hat or hair ribbon and surely I can come up with another book bag for her.

I slipped that little cross bar piece behind the straps to see how it might look, but as I studied some patterns from the 40’s, it was mostly used on toddler-size clothing, so I think I’m going to pass on it…

Hopefully the next time you see this outfit, it will be completely finished… How about this… I won’t SHOW it again, until it’s all done!

Next I wanted to share something I received in the mail. I know I must surely have the nicest subscribers. One of them, Anita, emailed me for my address and asked if I would be interested in some vintage laces. She had a friend who worked as a volunteer somewhere and they had received loads of this lace. The box arrived and it was huge, and it was packed with lace!

She said it needed to be washed, so she took it home and washed it, and put it in little 5 yard remnant baggies. This is the aqua, peach and teal. It has been gathered up but I think I’ll take the stitching out and use it flat rather than gathered up.

There was also a burgundy that wasn’t gathered up…It’s my favorite. A pretty little black gathered lace was also in that bag.

CIMG1823

There was lots of white and cream lace that will be perfect for slips and petticoats, and trim for pantalettes.

These blues and yellows will be perfect for something… I just don’t know what yet!

CIMG1833

In the bottom of the box I found these patterns with a note to give them to Sara! Oh, won’t she have fun with those?

CIMG1818

So thank you again Anita! I appreciate you thinking of me and will do my best to use them wisely! My lace stash has grown significantly because of you! I’m going to get them out of the baggies and organize them somehow…

But I’ll get Molly’s dress finished first!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I love Molly’s outfit, Jeanne! It looks so crisp and fresh, and fits Molly’s personality perfectly! I like it both ways with the extra srtap, although I never wore a skirt like that (with the extra piece). It makes it look German, I think, —— which I am!

How lucky you are to have such generous and wonderful readers! I, too, love that burgundy lace! Sara will learn a lot by following a pattern, and it’s so nice to see that she will have learned how to sew fairly well, by the time she goes back to Columbia.

    1. Thank you Linda,
I can’t wait to get Molly’s complete outfit finished. I think she looks very pretty in green. I thought that extra bar made it look German too… or like the little Swiss Miss girl!

I can’t imagine how much Sara is going to learn in the next few years. She’ll be way ahead of her peers when she gets back.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Wow, Jeanne, you hit the jackpot with all that lace! I foresee some beautiful and lacy outfits happening.

Molly looks very ready to start school. Good luck to Molly and all of our students starting a new school year.

    Have a great week!

    1. HI Cindy,
Yes, I did hit the jackpot with the lace. Now I can put lots of lacy trim on the underside of my slips and not feel guilty about using too much lace!

Yes, Molly is ready to see who will be in her class this year…
Our town is booming with new students moving into town, getting ready to go the the University, so you feel the “back to school” vibe all around! It starts next Monday.

Your dolls up for sale are very pretty… *sigh*
      Thanks so much Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jeanne you are must welcome. The lace could not have found a better home! Now remember if you need more I am as close as your computer.

    Happy Sewing.

    1. HI Anita,
I think I’m “good” for quite a while, but thank you so much! I’ll have to make a pretty slip just to show off that lace…
Thanks again, I truly appreciate it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I really like the crossbar on the little suspenders. Looks very finished that way. What a wonderful collection of lace trims from Anita. How very thoughtful!

    1. HI Susette,
Thanks so much for your comments…
Yes, wasn’t it sweet of Anita to send that lace to me? I was flabbergasted at the size and contents of the box… It was a LOT!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Now I love Molly’s jumper outfit. I was not sure at first. Why? Well, I have an immediate tendency to associate bright green with St. Patrick’s Day. Being an Irish girl it is inborn to be drawn to green though we saved the color to honor the DAY {or season as it were} !
I wore a navy blue jumper with plain white blouse to school for many years I tend to associate the beginning of school with navy blue only. When I saw Molly’s blouse fabric I had a crazy thought….. would it not have been nice if all the girls in my school had been allowed to wear the white blouse of their choice with that navy jumper. How fun that would have been !!! I absolutely love the fabric in her blouse. I do hope you have plenty more so we can see how you use it again.
School starts here in a week so all my grands are gathering their supplies and that ever so exciting first day of school outfit. Heaven help their parents!!!

    1. HI Jeannie,
I was a little concerned that it might look too St. Patrick’s-ish too but decided the green was the one I liked too, even before it was the one picked. I’ll try one of the other colors the next time.
Wearing the blouse you wanted would certainly have been a nice thing to have been able to do. It would have “changed it up” a little each day if you wanted… I did buy quite a bit of that white fabric and now that I see how sweet it looks as a blouse, I won’t be using it for Pantalettes as I first thought I would… It is too pretty not to be seen…
Oh boy! Yes, I’ve seen some of those “stressed out” looking parents in Wal Mart…
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Molly’s dress is very cute, I like the black check and black button accents. Wow, what a wonderful assortment of lace you received. I love the burgundy lace too!!

    1. Hi Regina,
I hope your birthday celebration was lovely and lasted all day! Thank you for your sweet comments on Molly’s dress. I love little black and white checked ribbons at the necklines of dresses too.
A few people commented on the burgundy lace… I better use it first!
      Thanks Regina,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Happy Monday!
You will have laces for ever! What a fabulous assortment too.
Those wide delicate beige ones are awesome! I think your outfits are going to have some mighty nice unders!
    What a wonderful surprise!

    1. HI Kathie,
I was just looking through my 1943 Mail Order Catalog looking at little girls slips to see just how lacy I could make one…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

I was so sorry to see the plaid dress auction end. Some things you want to be available to look at for a year or two.
My school uniform was a plain blue skirt and a plain white blouse. How glad I was to be done with that. Lovely to see Molly off in that darling outfit. It celebrates the end of summer instead of pushing it aside.
I’m going to enjoy seeing what you do with all that lace. Someone once gave my family 12 boxes of pickles (3 different kinds) — it’s so nice to have something that you can use and use while it lasts and lasts. We’re all going to enjoy this.

    1. Thank you Marilyn,
It’s funny, I kind of felt the same way about that dress as I was packing it up for the winner today. I made sure it was laid perfectly in the box as I closed it up…

That lace is going to be fun to use up… I see lots of slips from it…

12 boxes of pickles??? That’s a lot of pickles.. I hope you all enjoyed them for a long time!
      Thanks so much Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Molly looks lovely in that green! I’m anxious to see the school/book bag.
Lucky you to have such wonderful subscribers who send you boxes of lace and such.

    1. HI Jevne,
I just finished her book bag and think I’m all done… but I’m debating about a slip…. hmmm…
Yes, I do have great subscribers…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Molly’s back to school outfit is looking good! I like the little touch of black you used for the accents. It was so sweet of Anita to send you all the lace. I know you’ll find some creative uses for it!

    1. HI Carolyn and thank you for your sweet comments about Molly’s dress. I just got it listed on Ebay a few minutes ago.
Yes, it was sweet of Anita to send me that lace… now I have to get creative and use it up!
      Thanks so much, Blessings, Jeanne
