Fun-day Sunday!

One of the students at our church asked my hubby for some help using his tools for his final projects of the semester… 2 of them… a “no kill” mouse trap and a “crayola” heart picture. It was so much fun watching them work together, I thought I’d share the pictures with you…

Meet Jean Ronel… from Haiti. (His name isn’t Jean like blue jean…but it’s French, so it’s kind of with a zhawn sound…sort of like lawn…just wanted you to know.) He has a wife and 2 kids back home. His major is Curriculum and Education and his final projects for the semester were 2 “almost” craft projects, if you ask me… in fact my tape measure was used around the bottle once… :o)

Jean took a box of crayons and glued them to a piece of foam core in the shape of a heart. Then he used my hubby’s hot air gun and carefully held it around the crayons and melted the bottom of them causing them to run as melted wax does. He carefully turned the board as it dried and kept the inside of the heart nice and clean. This is how it turned out… It’s all rough and bumpy like… pretty neat looking. He needed to submit pictures of it for his professor so “Pictures by Jeanne Marie!” (Thank you very much!)

Jean said he could hardly wait to send the pictures to his kids and wife!

Okay, next project… He wanted to build a no-kill mouse trap and I must admit this is pretty cool. He showed us the video of how it works. I’ll see if I can’t find the video if you want to watch it. The mouse is caught first thing, so you can see how it works without having to watch it being built. No animals are harmed!!!

No Kill Mouse Trap on You Tube

Basically what happens is the bottle is hinged so that it tips forward and back. A little bit of peanut butter is placed just inside the bottle out of the mouse’s reach. As he pokes his head in to get the peanut butter, his weight causes the bottle to shift so that the opening of the bottle shifts from the hole being open above the block of wood, to the bottle tipping down when he tries to get out. He can’t get out because the opening of the bottle is against the wood.

There are so many funny sewing and fabric quotes I just had to share a few more.

In case you missed it, Ebay pulled my little blue dress for Trixie Tonner and won’t let me relist it again for 3 days, so I’ll get it up when my 3 day suspension is done.. UGH! Sorry about all you who were watching it.

But Julie’s dress ends tonight… Ebay let that one stay because they told me I had it listed in the right category… “Modern Clothes and Accessories.” Everyone who sells… be careful, Ebay is really cracking down! Don’t list your doll dresses under the “doll” category… Ebay says the buyers are getting confused as to what is for sale… the doll or the dress…

Here is the link to see Julie’s dress auction … (HERE)

Okay, so here are the rest of the sewing and fabric quotes…

Ingrid had a favorite one that she sent me…

So see, we CAN buy more fabric, the fabric on the shelf said we could!

See you tomorrow,

  1. I enjoyed those quotes immensely. They are too funny.
Jean’s art work is spectacular. What a cool thing to do with crayons! And the mouse trap…how genius. What interesting projects.
My husband has been patiently discouraging a Barn Swallow couple who’ve been trying to build their nest in the same spot as last year…our front porch. I think Barn Swallow’s like my husband for some reason because there are Barn Swallows nesting at his place of work, and they also try to nest on the bow of our boat which is an hour away in distance. This year, besides flitting around our house, they followed my husband in the garage several times!! I’m sure the birds have their own point of reason but we like to think my husband is “one with nature”! LOL
    Have a wonderful Sunday.

    1. Hi Paula,
Jean’s art projects were really fun to watch him build. He just kept saying, about his crayon picture, “It’s so beautiful!”
I guess the swallows really like your hubby!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Very interesting mouse trap. Just yesterday, we noticed that our Meyer Lemon bush had some strange fruit on it. All the rind was eaten away and an intact peeled lemon left hanging on the branch. We thought it was a possum since we’ve had them previously. Went home and Googled and found out it was rats! ICK! Also found they had returned to the attic after no activity in two years. So, after a perimeter check ground and eves, decided they are coming in from the roof itself through vents. Now we have to figure out how to secure the vents. 🙁

    1. Hi Joy,
I guess you need to get a “3” liter bottle with a larger opening to make your trap out of! I hope you find a solution to your lemon eaters!
      Blessings. Jeanne

  3. I love the crayon picture, Jeanne, something to try with great-grandson. My granddaughter-in-law made a clock for her daughter’s teacher, a circle of crayons as used in the picture, with a clock in the middle. I’ll send her a copy of the picture from here, I’m sure she’ll want to try it.
    Hugs,
    Jevne

    1. Hi Jevne,
I was curling my hair this morning when you came to my mind. I was going to email you when I got home from church…but we are still here. My hubby is working on a van the church needs to take on a trip tomorrow. So I’m waiting on the car occasionally helping him with something.

How are you and how is your hubby?
I’m sorry I haven’t checked in on you before now…
I’m glad you liked Jean’s picture. It is a perfect kids craft if you ask me!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Fun indeed….how nice that your husband helped Jean…it’s great to see his creativity at work (Jean’s)….and your photos!

    Blessings.

    1. Hi Becky,
Being a little partial to doing crafts, these two projects were right up my alley! It was a fun morning….
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a fun blog today, Jeanne! I loved the crafts, that picture frame is really neat, and I might want to give it a try! Jean did a wonderful job, and we got to see your handsome hubby too—-bonus points!!

That mouse trap is amazing! I always tended to shy away from mouse traps, I just didn’t like to have to see the poor mouse dead, but that one is a good way to catch them without the gore! They really are cute—I guess until they get into things they shouldn’t! I have enough trouble around here with a bunny and now I find I also have some squirrels that are munching on my petunias! It’s always something!

Those quotes are so funny, but they do make sense sometimes!

    1. HI Linda,
I’m a bit late to the party, but still wanted to let you know I appreciated your comments…especially about my handsome hubby… those weren’t his best shots.. he needs a haircut really badly! Maybe Tuesday on his day off…

Maybe your hubby could build you a squirrel catcher from a bottle… :o)

      Thanks so much Linda,
I hope you had a nice Sunday,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. This was a great post. The crayon project was great fun. I love these slogans too. I just saw a list of 10 reasons to buy a spinning wheel in an old issue of Spin-off. One was “What else can I do with the wool from the herd of sheep I just bought for the back yard?”

    1. HI Marilyn,
I think the crayon project was a really neat one too.. you should have seen the crayons melting and spitting and running as Jean ran the heat gun over them. They sort of exploded and spewed out and down…
Now a spinning wheel is something I’ve never acquired and hopefully I never will… I certainly can’t start doing that. Although one time George was helping shear some sheep and when he saw some of wool he asked if he could have a little for his wife. He brought it home and asked me if I could make doll wigs out of it. I washed it but that was as far as I got with it… It’s a good thing I didn’t take that up…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      blessings, Jeanne
