60% off coupon, Yarn, Glasses and the start of a dress for Ten Ping…

I had another very busy day today but in the middle of it all my car took me to JoAnn Fabrics and Hobby Lobby! Does your car ever do that to you? It happens to me all the time! And it’s a good thing I went because I had a coupon from JoAnn’s that was burning a hole in my pocket. Actually it was a great coupon… for 60% off your total purchases from the notions wall. Guess what I was after….? Snaps! Yes, snaps. I go through them like crazy! And yes, I used my little “pin poke” method to see if they were all snaps with holes in the centers. If you wonder what I’m talking about click HERE to see my post on buying snaps and how to sew them on….and yes, I found 2 cards that didn’t have holes in the middles big enough to stick a pin through. So I’m sad to say I left them on the rack for some poor soul to come along and buy them only to get them home and find out they are duds. (Sorry…)

I found some stretch elastic to use for doll slips and a skein of 1/8″ elastic for using in tiny sleeve casings. That was it for JoAnn’s.

Then my car headed to Hobby Lobby for a few things. It’s almost time to think about making some Skinny Scarves (click HERE to see them) to sell in our Etsy Shop so I found a few skeins of yarn that just called out to me. I love royal blue and the turquoise mixed…and the red and green just had Christmas written all over it.

I also found this cute glasses charm or little novelty piece and thought it would work well for Ten Ping. I think it will make her look “smart!”
Aren’t they cute? Of course there are no legs, so I’ll have to figure something out, but I will!

On my way home I stopped at our local Thrift Store and found 2 more skeins of new yarn…

I thought I would get more done on Ten Ping’s dress but I didn’t. In fact, I may be starting over…one sleeve is a bit tighter than the other one and it’s not the way I want it to be…but I’ll let you see what it’s going to look like…

Well, it’s 12:30 and I need to get to bed.

Have a great weekend and don’t forget…today is the last day for that 60% off coupon on the total of your notions purchases… don’t you need some snaps too?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Thanks for the tip about the coupon! I can always use something from that department…..

    1. HI Kathy,
Glad to send out a reminder about the coupon…hey, every penny saved helps us save for a new doll…or at least some more material!
      Have a great weekend,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Deb,
Thanks for thinking of me on the snaps… I checked out Gerry B’s website and her price is exactly the same as what I got mine for at JoAnn’s with the 60% off coupon…10 cents a piece. I would have to pay shipping on her site, so actually I think I’m better off with JoAnn’s…at least when I have a 60% off coupon. I personally like to check the holes on each package I get. I just test a few on each card and know if it’s a keeper or not.
But thank you for letting me know about her website. I looked around on it and didn’t see anything else I needed, but maybe someone else might…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I am a snapaphobic. In all my years of sewing, I never realized there was supposed to be a hole in the middle of a snap! Thank you so much for the tutorial. I can’t tell you the number of outfits I have that require snaps but have no closures. Perhaps there is hope for me yet!

    1. HI Joy,
Oh I’m so glad you read my tutorial on buying and sewing on snaps…it’s not so bad when you have the right snaps and know the best way to sew them on… Glad to have been a help to you today!
Of course there is hope for you…now go sew on a snap and see how you like it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. You have a very naughty car, Jeanne. However, with a 60% off coupon couldn’t you find more notions to buy at JoAnn’s? You could have save a lot more money. I get flyers from JoAnn’s all the time but seldom go there because we don’t have one in town. I wish Michaels had sewing stuff, I go there looking for ribbon, yarn, DMC floss, and beads/charms….that’s about it. I’m happy that we now also have a Hobby Lobby.
Years ago there was a Minnesota Fabrics but when they ‘remodeled’ the strip mall it closed. Also had a wonderful quilt shop in an old three story house, but a couple years ago they had a fire. She had all the salvageable fabric cleaned but she had to find another store, the fabric was folded instead of on bolts; it just never recovered and finally closed.
I’ve tried your pin through the snap but I must have a supply of pins with too small holes because I have long skinny pins but they won’t go through the hole, I have to use a small sewing needle. I carry a little tape measure in my purse, I’ll have to start carrying a pin. lol
Love your blog! Ten Ping looks great in the glasses, I have some metal ones that fit her but I’m saving them for when school starts. She’s going to the beach if i ever get her outfit done. Trying to get new stuff on the soap website and next week have taxes to do. It’s always something!

    1. HI Jevne,
Yes, my car might be naughty, but I wouldn’t trade her for anything… :o)
And YES, I sure could have found more to buy from the notions wall, but I’m trying to save up some money to buy my sons Samsung Galaxy S5 phone…he’s trading up to the 6 and said he’d sell me his S5. It takes really good pictures and I could use it for my blog when I’m out and see something I’d like to photograph. My phone now isn’t that great.

I’ve had a few of the “mom and pop” fabric stores that I loved to shop at close too. They were like yours… folded fabrics and all. They were my favorites to shop at because they had such different and unique stuff.

You’ll have to get some new snaps and see if it makes a difference when you sew them on. Snap sewing is a tedious job in itself, but when you can have a pin hold the snaps on, it certainly does make it a little easier.

I was brainstorming with Rebecca about the glasses this morning… we’re going to figure out something… and yes, I was planning on a little school outfit for mine too.
Let me see her beach outfit when you get it done!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Enjoyed reading about your shopping expeditions! I don’t know if I got that particular coupon–I’ve been on JA’s mailing list for years, but the last few months, I’ve only gotten one flyer! Unless dh is pitching them when he picks up the mail, he will sometimes pitch what he decides is “junk” ….I’ll have to ask about that.

As to snaps, I recently bought some things from the stash of an ASG fellow member who is having to move into a memory-care facility. Amongst all the snaps and hooks and eyes was one complete card of size 5/0 snaps!!! Haven’t seen those in the stores in years, although I suppose one can order them online somewhere. I will save them for clothes for my tiniest dolls, such as Riley Kish.

Oh, Ten Ping looks adorable in those glasses!! (BTW, the “legs” are actually called bows.) I would imagine you could use some coated wire or something to make bows for her new glasses, maybe with a little headband going around the back, like sports players wear to keep their glasses on! 😉

    1. HI Charlotte,
I think there might be something “suspicious” going on with those flyers of yours….

I’ve never seen that small of a snap…it must be teeny tiny!

      I didn’t know the legs were called bows… thanks…
I’ve been trying a few different things and so far have come up with nothing… I want them to have bows…so they can slide on her face, just along side her hair. I’ll figure something out.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne
