Molly’s thrilled with her new ruffled slip and socks…

Molly has been just a little bit sad
She even told me that she had been mad
How could I go without sewing for her?
What had come up or what had occurred?
I told her that life had gotten too busy
She asked me if things were all in a tizzy
I told her I managed to get something made
Today was less busy but still some delays
Now she is thrilled with her new ruffled slip
It’s very bright red and cute as a whip!
Her dress now stands out and looks so much better
This sweet 40’s dress, she thinks is a trendsetter
She picked out her shoes, shiny black ones for sure
Her socks are now done, she thinks they’re “couture”

Well, that is just a silly little poem about Molly’s new red slip and new white socks. I didn’t make it to what will be adorning her head! Maybe tomorrow. My hubby has to go to a job early in the morning, so maybe I can get in my sewing room earlier than usual. :o)

Here are some pictures of what happened today! I know dresses from the 40’s were actually not as full as the one I made, but it’s the one thing I take liberties on. I don’t like skimpy dresses, so I make them fuller than what was actually worn.

PLEASE NOTE:
Noel’s Christmas Sparkle dress set didn’t sell last night on Ebay, so I changed it to FREE shipping, lowered the price and put a Buy It Now offer there as well. You can click the picture at the right side bar to see it… or click HERE.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Molly looks perfectly adorable in that pretty dress, Jeanne! Yes, I know, dresses weren’t that full in the 40’s, but I would have LOVED it if they were and if I had a pretty slip like that! Who wants to skimp on a Christmas dress anyway?
And those socks! Such a cute variation to the usual plain ones, and just what she needs for this special outfit!
I still think a pretty bow is what she needs for her hair, or perhaps a bow on a headband.
I’m not sure I would have ever worn a hat inside, unless it came with a coat. But whatever, she will look downright adorable in whatever you pick!

I love Molly’s new red slip! With that extra fullness, the dress looks like it could be from the 1950s, too–something you might add in your description, as there is, after all, Mary Ellen, an AG doll from the 1950s.

I’m curious about what you used for her socks! I see a fancy edging, so I’m wondering if you used larger socks and cut them down, or has some kind of special trim or something!

Going back to yesterday’s post, thank you all for the nice comments about April Eleanore’s nurse’s uniform! I was so glad that someone mentioned her nursing pin!! It was really just a vintage silvery button that was the right size, and had what I guess you’d call a flat shank–and a two-way one, at that! Instead of just sewing back and forth across the shank, as you normally would, there were two sets of “holes” on the back so the sewing was actually in a crossed pattern: + like that. It holds the button flat against the garment, but you don’t see the stitches like you would on one with holes on top.

I can’t take credit for her cap, though–a friend of mine made it years ago to go with the nurses’ uniform for a slightly smaller doll. The dress would have been too small for April, but the cap still worked fine. I’m going to make one for her so she can have her own for next time!

  3. I didn’t get to comment yesterday, so here goes: I was thrilled to see Joy’s wonderful and creative family in their amazing costumes. How beautiful and handsome they all are, even the patient kitty. The darling little dolls looking up at the camera, how cute can it get! Their eyes make them look like real children. The doll in the nurse costume looks very professional, especially the pin. My great grandmother was a nurse too. So many details to look at. How about that very tiny miniature witch! Julia’s cape theme is a great idea and useful for lots of holidays.

I made the witch costume, but the rest are from eBay when I can snag something, even a doll, at rock bottom bids when no one else must be watching. The triceratops and unicorn were from Home Goods and Walgreens for $20 each. How can one leave them at the store at such a price. They just jump into my cart. It was a wonderful post and I enjoyed every picture and all of the Comments, too, that point out the details. Thanks for a great post, Jeanne. Glad your surgery is tomorrow. Smooth sailing.

    1. I forgot to mention how great Molly’s dress, slip and socks are. Please do remind us how you made the socks. Her shoes are perfect for the era and the slip is over the top. Another Jeanne Marie bit of perfection.

Dear Jeanne, what an absolutely darling outfit. How fashionable the socks are. I am sure that Molly is happy to parade in this outfit for just a bit longer.

  5. Jeanne, sending you healing light and best wishes for your procedure tomorrow.

Molly looks so cute in her new Christmas dress. Those layered ruffle slips are so fluffy. Just what any little girl would love!

I went back to yesterday’s blog to catch up on the responses. Man, mine was barely readable. I’ll try to do better today. I wrote it on my phone while waiting at the dentist office. A New crown was glued in. It’s one of the least traumatic dental experiences for me but I still get gas. I said I made everything my dolls were wearing but there was one exception. My sister, Dianne, made the little cloth treat bag. It’s one of many things she made for me that I treasure.

Our snow is here to stay. Fall is over. I better get busy and finish my fleece jacket!

  6. Well, poetry in motion this foggy morning. 🙂 Loved it.
Hope you are able to tell us how you whipped up Molly’s cute socks. We always need more of those around here.
I almost bought another dolly last night, but sat on my clicking hand. Ruby Red Galleria now has an articulated larger doll with an Effner head. She is larger than the LD’s, so can pose as their older sister. Three hair colors. Blond, sold out. Auburn and dark brown. They are very tempting. 🙂 $129.00 plus shipping/tax. Not outrageously priced at all. 🙂
Be thinking of you tomorrow for eye number two. Should be a piece of cake. 🙂

    1. Whoops, finger slipped. Bringing home cute little Hanna, Forever Friends cutie. 14 1/2″ Exact replica of Effner #3. rubyredfashionfriends.com Just in case anyone else has a trigger finger. Also available at happily.com Mine has shipped already. Looks like some will be available to ship at the end of November. They are very cute and have adorable outfits also available. Jeanne, looks like they are similar in size to the Wellie Wishers, but a tad taller so those patterns would probably fit. 🙂

  7. Hope everything goes well today, Jeanne …. I’m sure it will and you’ll have perfect vision and these surgeries will all be over.
Loved your poem- you are just too clever!!
Molly’s slip is really neat. Love the red and perfect for her dress. I imagine Molly swishing or twirling her dress back and forth, liking the feel of that. I remember that same feeling and thinking how beautiful my can can made my dress stand out. Gosh, I haven’t said the word “can can” for ever!!

Molly’s socks are really neat- did you make them? Her socks have everyone intrigued today.
Well, Molly’s outfit will be adorable when done. Another great outfit, Jeanne.

  8. Molly’s dress is even more beautiful with her new fluffy slip. Add my name to the list of people wanting to know exactly how you did the socks. Very unique.

I’ll be praying your surgery goes well tomorrow. Can’t wait to see what Molly ends up with for hair adornment.

  9. I enjoyed seeing everyone’s costumes yesterday. Great jb creating such fun items.
Molly’s new is just lovely and the red ruffled slip is so pretty as well. Her little scalloped socks are very sweet.
There were snow flurries in the air this morning when I looked out. Waah, I want summer back.
